First off, one of the anticipated starters usually gets injured to some degree and they'll probably need another starter before the season starts, so keep your mouth shut until everything plays out. Don't start this crap on your first day.

But, if Stroman wants only to start, then show them from day one that you're deserving of a spot in the rotation.

Quoting myself here. Boy, I wish I'd been wrong about this, and I definitely wish it wasn't Luis Gil who's injured. 😞

Stroman's day one bluster was unnecessary. He's most likely the fifth starter just due to attrition.

From Jon Heyman and Joel Sherman:

Blue Jays’ offer to Vladimir Guerrero Jr. revealed after superstar halted contract talks

https://nypost.com/2025/03/11/sports/blue-jays-contract-offer-to-vladimir-guerrero-jr-revealed/

The Toronto Blue Jays offered superstar first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. a deal for about $500 million before negotiations were halted last month — although significant deferrals put an estimate of the actual net present value of the offer between $400 million and $450 million, league sources familiar with the negotiation tell The Post.

These figures represent the range the Blue Jays were willing to discuss and, thus, details where matters stood before Guerrero’s camp halted negotiations, as promised, before the Jays’ first full-squad workout Feb. 18.

The Jays were offering to make Guerrero the game’s third-highest paid player, behind Mets superstar Juan Soto’s record $765 million, non-deferred deal that could reach $805 million and Dodgers two-way international superstar Shohei Ohtani’s heavily deferred $700 million deal, which is valued in current dollars at between $440 million and $470 million.

So, now what? We know where they're playing this season but for 2026 on, who knows? Is the city going to want to revamp the Trop if the team has pulled out of the stadium deal?

Tampa Bay Rays say team will not move forward with stadium deal

To be honest, if they cared as much as possible in terms of winning, that would generate more fans in the seats than people having to put extra effort toward a commute to St. Pete.

I don’t know what else the Rays could possibly do. It’s not like they’re the Marlins. The Rays have put together a consistently competitive team for the better part of a decade. Did you see the turnout in their last playoff appearance? There was hardly anybody there. Playoff games and still nobody showed up.

Jeff Passan Had Time Today.

And I love him for it.

I'm so glad you posted this. I was so angry this afternoon. All I could think about while it was unfolding was that Rachel Robinson is still alive. She's 102. It's appalling and shameful that she should have to watch this happen.

The Defense Dept. restored the Jackie Robinson story later in the day. Kudos to Jeff Passan for calling attention to what had been done.

Is the ABS challenge going to be a regular season thing?  If so, the announcers are going to need to pay closer attention so they aren’t talking about a call that’s under review because they didn’t notice someone smack their head (is that really the best we could have come up with?).

I haven’t seen this - why can’t the Rays play the regular season in their own minor league park?

Isn’t that just seats? I imagine the standing room tickets can pack quite a few more in there.

Yes, seating capacity.

https://www.news-press.com/story/sports/mlb/2024/11/14/steinbrenner-field-capacity-dimensions-tampa-bay-rays-stadium/76295074007/

Steinbrenner Field Capacity

Steinbrenner Field is the largest minor-league stadium in Florida, with 11,206 seats and 13 skyboxes. The Rays' other options topped at a 9,000-seat capacity.

Tropicana Field capacity

The capacity at Tropicana Field, the typical home of the Rays, is 42,735, though they frequently fail to fill that amount. The Rays' average attendance in 2024 was 16,515, among the lowest in MLB.

Boy aren’t they going to be embarrassed when there are 2000 empty seats.

I’ve heard summer in Tampa is the surface of the sun, which won’t help.

They could play all night games, same as they did in Texas before they got a stadium with a retractable roof.

Despite the above, there's a safe bet that double headers occur down South due to a rain out

Why are Costa Rican authorities telling ESPN that Brett Gardner’s son did not die of asphyxiation?  Was that a concern, and how is that ESPN’s business?

Gardner's son died there during a family vacation.  According to NBC Nightly News, there were initial reports that the boy died of asphyxiation and the coroner came forward to specify that the death is being investigated but that there were no signs of asphyxiation and those reports were false.
