Jane Tuesday Saturday at 12:28 AM Share Saturday at 12:28 AM Sasaki to the Dodgers. Forget the inequity for a minute. It's just so fucking BORING. Thousands of hours of MLB talking heads speculating, thousands of column inches about this rumor or that. And then he goes to the dogdamned Dodgers, where everybody with a brain and a tiny amount of baseball knowledge and understanding of human nature knew he would go all along. I would have preferred he sign with the Cubs where he would torment us for years. At least that would have been INTERESTING. This league needs an international draft, yesterday. 4 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/2463-mlb-thread/page/388/#findComment-8557366

Sure, it was 70+ years ago and in Brooklyn instead of LA, but no normal team can compete with that. shoregirl Sunday at 04:40 PM Share Sunday at 04:40 PM (edited) Tanner Scott also to the Dodgers🤷♀️ I still think baseball needs a floor more than a cap ( but doesn't happen without the other) but I think baseball should cap how much a team can defer money Edited Sunday at 04:46 PM by shoregirl 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/2463-mlb-thread/page/388/#findComment-8558507
Black Knight Sunday at 05:23 PM Share Sunday at 05:23 PM Eh, with Sasaki it wasn't money, as he could've gotten the same or more from Toronto. It's the first-class organization combined with the west coast location. The west coast is always going to be more attractive to Japanese athletes, and at that point there's no question the Dodgers are better run than the Padres, Giants, Mariners, and A's. If baseball were a bigger deal in Europe, then east coast teams would be benefiting from that proximity. The Sasaki coverage of the last few months was mostly a waste of time and was just a way for media to fill their baseball section during the offseason, but I did learn from it that Sasaki lost his father, grandparents and home in the Fukushima tsunami, and credits baseball as giving him a way to cope after that tragedy. I wish him all the best. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/2463-mlb-thread/page/388/#findComment-8558527

The east coast does benefit vis a vis the Latin countries. Players from DR, Cuba, Venezuela, etc, seem to prefer east coast/southern teams. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/2463-mlb-thread/page/388/#findComment-8558585

ProudMary Monday at 08:42 PM Share Monday at 08:42 PM I wish Santander would have exited the AL East, too. He, along with Teoscar and Devers, are just perpetual Yankee killers and two of them are still in the AL East. Twenty two days until pitchers and catchers report! 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/2463-mlb-thread/page/388/#findComment-8559574

Lantern7 17 hours ago Share 17 hours ago (edited) Watching MLBN now. They’re making the announcement now. Ichiro is in. Obviously. No word if it was unanimous. CC is in. Does he have his number retired by the Yankees? And Billy Wagner is in. Dunno if the Mets will commemorate that. How long was he with New York? ETA: Ichiro was one vote away from unanimous. You think that was from the same guy that stiffed Jeter? Edited 17 hours ago by Lantern7 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/2463-mlb-thread/page/388/#findComment-8560416
mojoween 17 hours ago Share 17 hours ago 99.7% - one vote from 100. Wow the head announcer guy was sure there was going to be a pile of men voted in, and it was three. I wonder what caps those three men will wear in to the Hall. Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/2463-mlb-thread/page/388/#findComment-8560421

mojoween 17 hours ago Share 17 hours ago (edited) Seeing that Nolan Ryan had 98.8% (six votes shy), I don’t feel too awful badly for Derek and Ichiro. This could be because I do not speak Japanese, but it doesn’t seem like the translator is saying all the things the panel is saying when he says it to Ichiro. Is it because Japanese is such a precise language? Edited 17 hours ago by mojoween Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/2463-mlb-thread/page/388/#findComment-8560444

Jane Tuesday 16 hours ago Share 16 hours ago I feel really stupid, because I have no idea who you're talking about. Lol But the next best chance for a unanimous first-round vote is Albert Pujols, so I imagine we'll be on opposite sides of that debate. 😉 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/2463-mlb-thread/page/388/#findComment-8560484

Rivera is a special player who deserved a unanimous vote, but he's not in the conversation for best player (or even best pitcher) who ever lived. Others getting a unanimous selection doesn't diminish what he did. 3 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/2463-mlb-thread/page/388/#findComment-8560489
ProudMary 12 hours ago Share 12 hours ago 4 hours ago, Lantern7 said: CC is in. Does he have his number retired by the Yankees? CC's number has not been retired by the Yankees, but to the best of my recollection, #52 has not been given to any player since CC retired. I think they will retire it eventually, but Yankees' management like to milk those ceremonies for as much $$$ as they can. They'll probably have a CC Sabathia day where they give him a plaque in Monument Park and then a couple of years later, they'll retire his number on a weekend when the Yankees are playing the team with the worst record in baseball. As to what caps the new inductees will wear in the HOF, Ichiro is definitely a Mariner. Case closed. CC has said in the past that if he were selected, he wanted to go in as a Yankee, but the HOF gets the final say. I guess they could make a case for the Guardians. He spent 7.5 seasons there and he won his Cy Young award in Cleveland, but he spent 11 seasons in NY and won a World Series with the team. Obviously, I want him in as a Yankee. I love CC. I have no clue as to what cap will be on Billy Wagner's head. I think of him as an Astro and he did spend nine seasons there. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/2463-mlb-thread/page/388/#findComment-8560655

I remember being rather perplexed that Nolan Ryan went in with a Rangers cap. The bulk of his accomplishments were with the Angels and Astros, but that’s what he picked.
