george,s OINK MOO & CLUCK

I shiver just thinking what I ate at my Grandparent's house when the 'rents farmed us out to go help them in the spring/end of summer.  Enisi didn't play, you ate what was put in front of you and these people had never been to a grocery store in their life.

As a youngin we had pickled ocra and apparently I didnt really like the ocra part. I would sneak into the fridge, lick the ocra, and put it back. ;D I was a stinker

I remember her saying that "In Cold Blood" was very traumatizing to her when she was very young and we watched it once with her and by then we were like "a whole family murdered?" No chainsaws? No ghosties? zombies? witches? Meh.

No zombies, but...Scott Wilson co-starred with Robert Blake as the killers, so there's that.

6 degrees of separation! my mama started me on my walking dead journey!

S'mores are a no-go, I can put them in hot chocolate and I has a rice crispy treat recipe with peanut butter instead of marshmallows. I have overcome this debilitating evil food. You can come to my marshmallows anonymous meetings.

First off: Speaking of "In Cold Blood," that is a fantastic book. Written by Truman Capote, I couldn't put it down.

Secondly: all this talk of marshmallows and Peeps made me think of peepresearch.org - if you've never seen it, this is the perfect time of year!

ETA: arg, can't get my link to be live on my iPad. Oh, well - type it in - you'll be glad you did. Especially if you hate Peeps.

I'm not sure these are available in the USA, but if you are in Canada, you can have something even "better" than peeps and they are available year round,; Marshmallow Strawberries (not to be confused with strawberry flavoured marshmallows) They vaguely look like strawberries but not really and the resemblance to marshmallow is highly debateable too.  They are vaguely cone-shaped, bright red, and caked in a granulated sugar coating so biting into one is sort of like biting down on rubber caked in beach sand, they do not taste like strawberries, they do not taste good or even edible, they taste like punishment and cruel jokes. They are small. bright red, satanic turds.

I personally believe it was written by Harper Lee and I'm so incredibly stoked about the new Harper Lee book soon to be released. I thought I was a genius when I was reading an article about her and it said "childhood friend Truman Capote" and I screamed "Truman Capote is Dill!" and scared the bejeebus out of my roommate.

LOL! Also "Bright Red Satanic Turds" would make a good band name.

Tofu! It's delicous if you fry it in bacon fat. I know, that kind of defeats the purpose, but oh well.

Brought over from another thread:

I assume Noah tossed his dirty shirt in the hamper before leaving on the run. Nothing nefarious—just one of the everyday sad reminders of their terrible loss.

Strange thing reading this:

Back in my "road warrior" days (spending close to half my time on the road), one of my solid travel-related traditions was I always had to wash, fold and put away any dirty clothes before hitting the road.  For no other reason than if something bad were to happen to me, I couldn't think of anything more depressing than the notion of my wife/widow running across her dead husband's dirty clothes in the laundry bin.

Is that weird?

Not as weird as me carrying deodorant so that if I died I would have clean smelling pits. Sadly she probly would want like a tshirt that smelled like you. Or your pillow. Skivvies not so nostalgic

Friend of mine tried arguing drinking and driving with me. I have a dead brother in law courtesy of an asshat and he knows this. So I was fine with him saying he made it home safe. I believed was not impaired. However he didn't stop there. He then went on to explain that he might have blown a .8 and therefore was legally drunk but he wasn't drunk. He did math for me. 8 beers in 5 hours plus 3 waters. This wasn't making me feel better. I said if you can afford to go out and drink you can take a cab. "Legally" if you were pulled over you still get charged. You still might lose your job etc. why even risk it? Just the fact that you are arguing this point with someone who makes sandwiches at 3 am in a deli on weekends because she's still paying off debt from supporting Her sister for a year after the husband got squished, makes me believe your judgement is impaired. If a person tells you that they prefer YOU to die instead of a stranger if you choose to drive drunk makes me think you should stfu and pick your battles.

Time to unfriend somebody; after slapping him of course. Plus if he got picked up and needed bail he'd probably call you. People who defend drinking and driving are so self-absorbed.)

I'm not hindering anybody's good time. I'm all in favor of anybody drinking as much as they want. I haven't become some teetotaler over this. I am the designated driver most of the time for my friends cuz I'm too poor to purchase drinks if we go out. If $20 is my limit then I'm only getting a couple. I only ask if there is any question even the slightest chance you don't get behind the wheel. Money was not the issue. He can afford the ride. But he said if I invent the uber that drives him home and his car home then I'd be a millionaire. And honestly I think I did.

I'd call it tuber or twofer. You call for uber or whatever service and they have 2 drivers. And they do get you and your car home. Cheaper than rhe bail money. Cheaper than finding a new job or new car.

Oh I hate those people.  My Aunt and Uncle were killed on Christmas Eve by a drunk cop who of course walked away.  They were coming home from picking up a present for their 17 and 18 year old girls.

Thankfully the first responders insisted he go to the hospital even after the cops at the scene were all "oh he's just shaken up".  Bastard went to prison for a long time over it.  The medics told my Mom they did that so the cops couldn't cover it up.

The guy who spoke at my high school graduation was a drug and alcohol counselor for Navajo youth. He was the first Navajo to go to an Ivy League school. Son of a bitch wiped out a family on Christmas eve. He got on the highway going the wrong direction by going up an exit ramp. He insisted he wasn't drunk, through 3 or 4 trials. His blood alcohol was still way over the limit hours after because he refused to take the blood alcohol on the scene and they got a court order and forced it at the hospital. 4-6 hours after still over!!! Mom and 3 girls died. Father survived with severe medical problems and no family.

My hatred of drunk drivers knows no bounds. A whole family destroyed because some asshole wanted to get pissed and then get behind a wheel. Terribly sorry to hear that. It's simply horrendous and I can't imagine the rage a person would feel losing their loved ones in such a stupid and unnecessary way.

I'm just glad that these days it's not so simple for them to just say, "But I was drunk! Not my fault!" and get off the hook.

Seriously I need to talk to the uber people. Now I might call it Reeves, rhymes with Jeeves, fictional chauffeur name. Reeves my bil last name. But at any rate the inconvenience of you having to go back for your vehicle is the least of your problems if you have that big of an issue with losing it all the time.

My cousins lives were destroyed.  Both of them had promising futures and after losing their parents that way and at once, it was more then they could handle.  My 'rents did everything they could to help, but they didn't want it.  One of them OD'd like 10 years later and the other one, well no was has seen her in years.  It's so sad.  I lost my parents at 42 and I cannot imagine going through that as an 17/18 year old.

Ugh enough depressing stuff...In other news it was my friend's birthday and we went to the casino.  They have TWD machines there.  Everyone told me not to play them because they don't pay out, but I won $1,000 to which shall go into my fund for my new furnace.  Yep, being an adult sucks!

Question for you all....What's a good site for TWD fanfic?  I got this idea that won't get out of my head so I best be writing it.  Damn I haven't wrote a fanfic since Roswell...

Sweet though! Contemplating a casino trip soon. We have a boat. I'd be armed with my $20. If I lose it in the first 5 minutes I got a nice boat ride. Haha. I went to the casinos up in Connecticut last year and they don't pay out. My money was gone in a heartbeat. Vegas at least pays enough to keep you occupied for a few hours.

Oooh link us to yours or the bestest ones.

What I think is best you may find atrocious, or may hate the character it's about. Some are very explicit and/or "slash" (which I dislike very much) and I know people who do not care for that.

Fanfic? I've found some great stuff at the following URL. Warning: You need to carefully sift through it. There are some beautifully written true gems here, but you'll  have to wade through a lot horrific grammar and outrageous Mary/Jerk Sues to find it. Pay careful attention  to key words to weed out stuff not to your liking:

Yeah be really really careful on that one or you'll end up in a Dateline special report. There's some seriously no-go areas.

Brought over from S05.E13: Forget.

Long time lurker on this board-hello, I enjoy reading all your analysis so much! Very late to this episode but wanted to add something quick that struck me- how much it reminded me of the( old bbc show) Survivors- post apocalypse a travelling group who have survived a plague come to a seemingly friendly eco- community capable of generating its own power, run by a plausible female ex- politician who videotapes interviews with all new arrivals- that ended pretty badly which is partly the reason why I'm not too optimistic about this one...

And that show also got hard knocks when they focused too much on farms...

Survivors was so ahead of its time (Abbie Grant, run off the show because she was too strong - I would love to see an Abbie type on TWD), and yet so of its time. British TV of that era was so free of sentimentality that the awful things on that show packed a punch that nothing on now ever could. And I can't imagine any TV show today doing some of the stories they did, which upset even some of the cast (poor Wendy and Barney...).

Is this about the original 1970's series or the remake? I've seen some of the original when I was a kid and barely remembered it beyond a sense of enjoyment and a few bits here and there (including the female leader at the Grange(?) doing video interviews)  because it's been decades since I watched it. I also remember that it had really poor production values. I think I'd like to see the remake, I enjoy several of the cast members.

The original. I've never seen the remake.

This is a classic example of horrifically depressing material I can't see most modern genre shows doing:

http://www.survivorstvseries.com/Gone_To_The_Angels.htm

http://www.survivorstvseries.com/Law_and_Order.htm

http://www.survivorstvseries.com/Greater_Love.htm

(not to mention the episode where a main character spent the hour slowly getting rabies, or when they decided to kill off a huge chunk of the cast in a massive fire...)

Yet, somehow, it worked, mostly because they treated it seriously and honestly.
