S01.E07: He Deserved To Die

I really wanted to like this show.....but I realize that it is not going to get better. So many things are so poorly done. The law is twisted and turned in so many ways that would never happen in real life. I think this reflects poor research and writing. The characters are not likeable. Connor could be  very interesting, but his constant finding out info by having hot, gay sex is ridiculous. A well thought out script would be able to solve problems in a smart, "use your head" way...not have sex and miraculously get secret information.....Also, I HATE the wardrobe they have for Viola. Everything is too tight and does not look professional.

Unpopular opinion, I like Laurel. she is a quiet, but sharp and twisted mind and has demonstrated that she could get inside a killer's head (the St vincent case) and be cold-blooded as well. Too bad she's paired with a character as uninteresting as Franck, and that their pairing (or at least her decision to sleep with him) seemed to come out of nowhere.

*pulls up chair* Can I sit next to you? This is exactly how I feel about the character. She and Bonnie are the sleepers in all this, I think, and I could see them both pulling a fast one on the others as well as the audience. But UGH to Laurel/Frank. I remember someone mentioning somewhere on this board that the actors aren't told who killed who, etc., so that spoilers don't get out, and I wonder if their "relationship" is in a similar situation, in which the actors weren't told whether or not the characters are actually attracted to each other for some reason. I think that way of going about things is so dumb. How are any of the actors supposed to convey subtext or motivations if they have no freaking clue where their characters are going? Have enough faith that they're not going to leak anything (or put in some kind of contract stipulation about what they can/can't say to the press or on social media) and call it a day.

ETA: I know a lot of people have said when they hear the "Keating Five" that it reminds them of the thing with the US Senators, but it sounds strange to me because there's a classroom building on my campus called Keating, and whenever I hear "Keating Five" it sounds like they're talking about a room in that building, or the fifth floor (idk if there even is a fifth floor).

I'm a bit confused by this show. Do they want me to look forward to the answer to the obvious question who paid for the first autopsy - or do they want me to be surprised by the big boom shock at the end of the episode? The show loves those after all and they seem to do everything to get them, even if the reveal isn't really that surprising (see the 'infamous' 'why's your penis on a dead girl's phone'-line).

Besides that, it's an entertaining soap opera that has really nothing to do with Law Practice. But I do like the result from this, namely that all characters on the show are deplorable (and even with characters such as Khan I can see a bubbling unpleasantness underneath, here probably a lil' bit of self-righteousness). But what this show pulls off is not to leave the watcher in a position of superiorness, after all all of those people are succesfull however full of shit they may be.

I was a bit disturbed by the sex scene of Wes and Rebecca. Intercutting that with an autopsy was either very philosophical (or very high-school philosophical, I'm not sure right now) or just a visual shock-effect. And on second thought, scenes like this are what I want from a good tv show, surprise me. Two seconds later, the big boom shock of the episode left me entirely cold (!). The wheel will keep turning on anyways next week, but this scene I will remember for a little bit longer.

On another note, I've been seeing the furor online about people being grossed out by all the gay sex in Shonda's shows and you know what? Wes and Rebecca's sex scene grossed me out more than any gay scene ever could (It also helps that Connor's hot as hell so...).

If anyone is "grossed out" by gay sex scenes, they don't have to watch the show.  Gay people have had to watch straight sex scenes for years and somehow they survived.

Well, this episode didn't change my mind on Rebecca or her and whatever Wes's thing is actually meant to become.

I did however like Nate approaching her to take down Sam and I did like learning a tiny bit more about Wes as well so that was okay.

Connor had his moments in this episode - the bathroom scene with the hot lawyer, the drunk moping about his ex and then getting burned when it looked like Oliver had moved on as well.

Asher's reaction to Connor as well was hilarious. Voodoo penis indeed.

Some nice if bitch girly banter with Rebecca, Michaela and Laurel as well in this episode. Didn't really take much for Laurel and Frank to get back together either.

The gag order plot didn't really work at all, only to make both Rebecca and Griffin look like Lila's killers and Annalise and Parks look petty towards each other as well.

Lila being pregnant before she died, a little shocking I guess, 8/10

Yep.  And for those who record the show, there's always fast-forward.  (My wife totally supports gay rights but gets a little squicked at gay love scenes, so I tend to FF for her.  They don't do anything for me other than give me a bit of a surprise when they go further than any show I've seen.
