Arynm May 29 Share May 29 Interesting twist at the end. I was trying to figure out how they would work Merritt into the group, I had no idea she was the case. The main dude is hard to like, he is so abrasive. I don't think I "like" anyone so far except Akram he seems normal. I wonder what he did in Syria. 11 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/153751-s01e01-episode-1/#findComment-8674289
sugarbaker design May 30 Share May 30 I'm a big fan of the novel The Keeper of Lost Causes, so I'm happy to report that after one episide, that beside the geographical change, the show remains largely faithful to the novel. Imdb says there are nine episodes? The novel is quite the page turner, I can't believe it took me more than nine hours to read it. The Edinburgh location shots are stunning. 7 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/153751-s01e01-episode-1/#findComment-8674473
LisaM May 30 Share May 30 The first episode hooked me in even though I am not a fan of "woman held captive" stories. It was nice seeing so many familiar faces (Kate Dickie, Jamie Sives, Mark Bonnar). Did not expect the twist at the end. The lead DCI reminds me of Dr. House and similar curmudgeons. Had issues accessing Episode 2 on Netflix which will hopefully resolve. 6 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/153751-s01e01-episode-1/#findComment-8674531
Rickster May 31 Share May 31 I couldn’t watch it at all yesterday due to Netflix issues. Saw the first 3 tonight. I like it, but not giving anything away, Merrit’s situation seems lifted from an entirely different type of show and not very realistic. Maybe it will become clearer in future episodes. 1 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/153751-s01e01-episode-1/#findComment-8675189
dramachick June 1 Share June 1 Before the episode was over, I was all in! I've read the novels and seen all the movie adaptations. Everything clicked. Matthew Goode is always excellent and nailed the role of the ill-tempered, Detective Carl Morck. I was not familiar with the work of Alexej Manvelov, who plays Akram, but he has quickly become my favorite. This show is off to a great start! 13 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/153751-s01e01-episode-1/#findComment-8675732
TiredMe June 1 Share June 1 I’ve never heard of the books etc anything. But I saw Matthew Goode and decided to watch. Didn’t see the end coming at all. 4 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/153751-s01e01-episode-1/#findComment-8676134
Pike Ludwell June 2 Share June 2 If a show is going to have a captive woman who needs rescuing, I don't like to see the rescue dragged out to the end. I don't want to see scene after scene of her suffering, and no vengeance for a long time on the sick Fs holding her captive. 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/153751-s01e01-episode-1/#findComment-8676443
Snazzy Daisy June 2 Author Share June 2 I like how they link the two stories from two different timelines. And the twist at the end is an effective hook. I don't really like Moira. Carl should’ve called her out for misusing the budget allocated for Dept Q. People can hate Carl all they want. At least he’s fully aware of how shitty he is to people around him. Hopefully the dynamic between Carl and Dr. Rachel Irving could lead to something interesting. She is not intimidated by his assholeness. 7 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/153751-s01e01-episode-1/#findComment-8676488

That was a wild twist, if it came from the books I'm sorry for the folks who were spoiled and didn't feel the shock that I did. It certainly isn't another New Tricks. With so many cold case shows it surprised me that this was presented as a new concept in policing. 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/153751-s01e01-episode-1/#findComment-8676648
tennisgurl June 2 Share June 2 I decided to give this is a try because I like Matthew Goode and because its set in and shot in Edinburgh, which I visited last year and I loved. I know nothing about the books so the twist at the end was a big surprise, I am so in for this show. The main character is certainly an abrasive ass, but he's at least self aware of what a prick he is. Plus, Matthew Goode is such a good actor I still find him compelling. Those shots of Edinburgh are gorgeous, I'm surprised that more moody mystery shows aren't filmed there. 5 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/153751-s01e01-episode-1/#findComment-8676978

I visited Edinburgh too a few years ago. There are such long days in the spring and summer but really short days in the winter. I suppose that might affect filming? 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/153751-s01e01-episode-1/#findComment-8677013
