S10.E21: Baby Mine...

Recommended Posts

Good episode.

Nice of The Rookie to let Nyla have a break from catching bad guys so she can be Dr. Robin.   Wonder what’s up with Dr. Charles other daughter.

Sad that Naomi is leaving.  But glad she got justice .  Go Dr. Lennox in putting good looking surgeon in his place. Next good looking Doc there is an opening.  Just bring back Dr. marcel.

Wasn’t expecting the switcheroo of the transplant. So sad for both .

So Mitch is going to be a dad or Hannah could let her sis adopt baby and not tell him??

They work together everyday... I think he'd figure it out.

I saw the billionaire stealing the lungs for his daughter coming from a mile away.  I just figured that he'd bribe or buy them - and maybe he still did and just lied about her being more emergent.  Typical billionaire behavior, too... too bad he couldn't secure two pairs of lungs so that both kids could live.

Strong episodes on all Chicagos tonight.

Oh boy Hannah! At least it wasn't uterine cancer or something.

if I'm correct, someone is holding up a gun in the hospital next week and it's probably the parent of the child that did not receive the lungs. I saw that coming from a mile away, especially after that Sanctuary episode of Grey's Anatomy where the guy shot up the hospital.

I remember that episode playing in the other room from childhood.

They showed his face in the preview, that's who it is. And Grey's Anatomy is doing practically the same storyline next episode as well: a mother threatens to blow up an OR.

My theory is that it will be Archer's baby. There was that one night at the end of a recent episode that she showed up at his house with food. I think it will be revealed they had a one night thing. I believe they both are not wanting a child at this point in their lives and will give to the sister to adopt.

The theft of the lungs came as a complete surprise - sarcasm fully intended.

And I appreciated the disclaimer at the end regarding that all characters are fictional and not based on real events. I assume NBC Legal got antsy that a litigious multi-billionaire might sue although I doubt EM is that invest in his herd of gene bearers - especially one that might have defective "cancer genes"

I don't know the protocol of surrogacy between relatives. Normally one needs to have borne a child in order to be eligible to be a surrogate - but that is commercial surrogates who are paid. Why would a surrogacy between relatives be subject to the same kind of restrictions.

Also would this be Hannah's eggs or is the sister going to insist on making sure that it was sister's egg that was used which makes the whole procedure infinitely more complicated and subject to failure.

Now that would be interesting .

I don’t think she was ever implanted with her sister’s eggs.  She was trying to get approved for surrogacy. Correct me if I’m wrong.

I was commenting in the first scenes where she was discussing worrying about being approved.

It would seem odd to need approval in order to be a surrogate for a sister and if approval was actually necessary, then not having been pregnant is generally an immediate cause for rejection.

And why would sister’s eggs need to be used instead of just Hannah’s eggs which is a much more sure fire way to produce a baby. Especially when you would be sharing a high percentage of DNA with what is genetically your nibbling.🤷‍♀️

I'm ashamed to admit that I did not see that coming, even though there were signs, like the experimental ports or whatever that the billionaire's daughter had in her chest, and, well, that he was a billionaire who expected to get whatever he wanted.

Once we learned that his daughter was getting the lungs, I thought he had given the organ donor place a huge donation -- basically bribing them -- but I do believe that he was telling the truth about his daughter's condition being deemed more dire. Of course being a powerful billionaire with unlimited resources, he can get people to say whatever he wants.

Still, it was awful what he did. The whole thing is a sad case, but he's also the type that won't accept defeat. Not that I really approve this either, but he could have used his resources to check out other countries' lung donor situation. He'd probably have no compunction about giving money for it, in one way or the other, and of course he'd probably screw up someone else's life, but there's just no excuse for what he did to the boy and his parents.

I never see the previews, but I'm surprised the show is apparently having the other parents (or father) come in with a gun. The show did that one or two times already, right?

Actually, in this ep I did wonder where the boy's parents were and why they weren't screaming at the billionaire.

As for Dr Swarmy, I'm glad he's out. I was so happy when that nurse told Dr Howard that she too had been sexually harassed by him. And I expected there to be more. When the story came out, I thought it was the nurse who did it, but it works better that Dr Howard took control of her own story.

What is the disease the Dr Lenox and her brother are being tested for?

The service for Dr Charles' mother was nice. I'm curious why Anna quit Stanford. Oh, and I wonder if the French Stewart character is just very quirky or if there's something untoward going on with him.

I imagine if there are any eggs left, that Hannah would use one of them.

Normally yes. But the girl has cancer and the doctors have all told him that nothing is going to save her. I thought organ transplants had to go to the person with the greatest chance of survival?

I suspect it’s Huntington’s but I don’t think they’ve mentioned it at all.

After Hannah’s sister lost the baby and had to have a hysterectomy, she mentioned she only had one embryo left. If Hannah were eligible to be the surrogate, that is likely what they would have used.

They said it was Gerstmann-Sträussler-Scheinker disease in one episode.

Yes - It is Gerstmann-Sträussler-Scheinker (GSS) disease, is a rare, fatal prion disease. They often just refer to it in the show as Prion’s disease.

It is a separate disease from Parkinson’s or Huntington’s and, once you start to show symptoms, death tends to come fairly quickly where those with several other neuro degenerative diseases can live for several years, albeit their quality of life does deteriorate.

I didn't see the lung theft coming. I may not have been watching closely enough so I wasn't thinking about new lungs helping the billionaire's daughter.

Dad was desperate and not listening to the doctors that his daughter was terminal and there was nothing they could do. The lungs would only give her a little time or maybe just ease things until the end
