Trini March 30 Share March 30 Watson runs into brilliant con artist and an old friend of Sherlock Holmes, Irene Adler, when her son Angus is admitted to UHOP for temporary paralysis. The fellows help Watson after he grows fond of Angus and pursue various leads to find a cure to his illness. Brown44 March 31 Share March 31 We got Mycroft faster than I thought we'd see him. And clearly there waiting for a big enough name but not too big to play Sherlock in flashbacks. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/152680-s01e08-a-variant-of-unknown-significance/#findComment-8621596
milkyaqua March 31 Share March 31 Well at least the Adler storyline didn't get drawn out and we did get to see Mycroft. At least we didn't see too much drama involving the young proteges. 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/152680-s01e08-a-variant-of-unknown-significance/#findComment-8621965
MyArchangel March 31 Share March 31 I'm actually liking Watson. Maybe its because I really like Morris Chestnut. I do like the whole Holmes/Watson/Morriarity/Shinwell aspect to it. Ratings wise I don't know how its doing but I like the weekly medical mystery. Sometimes I can right off the bat guess what the resolution will be or for that matter that actual diagnosis. Comes from 32+ years as an ER/trauma RN. I hope this series does at least get a second season but that probably won't occur simply because I like it. That is usually a kiss of death for most shows I like that are new. Hence why I usually don't watch new shows until they get a 2nd season. Hope I am wrong if for nothing else that we get a resolution on why Morriarity is after Watson and why they are bribing Shinwell to make Watson sick from his meds. I do also like the addition of Mycroft to the series as well. Brings a whole other angle to things. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/152680-s01e08-a-variant-of-unknown-significance/#findComment-8622114

Dowel Jones April 1 Share April 1 What was the purpose of dropping Holme's ring in the glass of liquor at the end? Irene, could you have possibly made Angus a bigger target for bullies than buying that style of eyeglasses? At least the actor is better than the kid who plays Alfie on Matlock. 3 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/152680-s01e08-a-variant-of-unknown-significance/#findComment-8622587
Trini April 1 Author Share April 1 This is probably the most 'Sherlock Holmes'-ish episode yet; but I'm not really here for that. So the medical mystery turned out to not be one at all, since they were faking. Well, I guess Irene had to teach Jr. the art of grifting pretty early, with her cancer and all. 3 minutes ago, Dowel Jones said: What was the purpose of dropping Holme's ring in the glass of liquor at the end? I think it was to wash off/corrupt the blood, so that no one else would be able to get Sherlock's DNA. 3 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/152680-s01e08-a-variant-of-unknown-significance/#findComment-8622593

I sort of wanted it to be Munchausen by proxy, and they'd end up saving the boy. I also had assumed that Irene was faking the sleepwalking, but based on the diagnosis, apparently not? 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/152680-s01e08-a-variant-of-unknown-significance/#findComment-8622701
Cress April 1 Share April 1 Anyone know who is the actor who played Mycroft? I thought he was going to be completely silent, but then he spoke up. I liked their version of the Diogenes Club. Irene wasn't too bad, though why did she keep saying the father was cremated? Sherlock's body was never found, so if she wanted to fool Watson into thinking that Sherlock was the father, why say "cremated"? I guess the real father is Godfrey Norton, her husband in the original story. But apparently he's gone too, whether dead and cremated, or lost some other way, so she's a single mom. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/152680-s01e08-a-variant-of-unknown-significance/#findComment-8622738

kitmerlot1213 April 4 Share April 4 Just once, I'd love for Irene Adler to be played like the Jersey girl we all know she secretly is :) I also liked getting the shot of Mycroft and the Diogenes club--I did like Shinwell sparring with both Irene and Mycroft and with Irene, the scenes were very definitely dislike on both sides. I'm starting to warm to both Sasha and Ingrid but the twins need to go. In fact, I wouldn't mind if it was Watson solving cases with Sasha, Ingrid and, Shinwell with an occasional assist from Mary Morstan. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/152680-s01e08-a-variant-of-unknown-significance/#findComment-8626062

I still want to cry when I think of Pushing Daisies and Joan of Arcadia's cancellings. 😭😩 I like the cases of the week and the Fellows' personality development. I could do without the Moriarty end of things. I would love it if they would do more with Shinwell, though I guess they did this week. Holy cow - taking Judas Priest to the Diogenes club took some gumption. Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/152680-s01e08-a-variant-of-unknown-significance/#findComment-8629513
