S04.E18: Audit

I've been thinking about how they could bring Ava back. What if she runs for school board? That would be funny. The parents probably like her and might even be sympathetic to the bribery.

It's a problem that the original bribe was based on them promising to keep quiet about the golf course not using union labor. People won't like that. But she also has no reason to keep that secret anymore. Maybe some solution could be brokered, like the golf course is punished with gigantic fines that help fund the schools.

Or maybe she finds a way to get legal sponsorships-- a lot of companies will give money to things like kid sports teams, in exchange for the good will and essentially it's a joint tax write off and advertizing benefit to them. Maybe she becomes a fundraiser and thorn in the side of the district, by... I don't know what exactly-- she could borrow a kid and join the PTA and raise all kinds ofmoney and then control where it goes, thus causing the district and other schools to try to win her favor.

That's fair, and I agree that a lack of funding and resources been a recurring theme since the beginning.  That doesn't mean that Ava's firing was unjust, and its why I didn't feel bad for her.  Especially since she could have put a stop to it at any time.           

She's part of the main cast, so I'm sure she'll return, probably even next episode (pure spec on my part as I watch on Hulu and miss any previews).

That was my takeaway as well.  Sometimes you gotta know when to either play nice or play dumb. Why Ava chose to tell her frenemy the truth, I'll never understand.

Well, it's Ava so there may well be a motive behind it that we don't know yet.

There an old teacher saying that teaching is the only profession where employees take needed supplies FROM home to their jobs. So true!

Public schools where I teach are underfunded, and I HATE that we ask parents for money in yearly fundraisers.

I also hate that my site is close to 70 years old and there's a new elementary site a few miles away with all the bells and whistles.

Abbott teachers and students (and all public school teachers and students)  deserve to work in palaces (stealing that from West Wing's Sam Seaborn).

The characters can definitely be cliquey (particularly Melissa and Barbara, who bring out the worst in each other), but everything they've ever said about Morton is justified.

He's a hardcore misogynist (his worst fear is being on a plane flown by a woman) who's straight-up cruel to small children.

The way the characters sometimes crap all over Janine and Jacob, and Ava's barbs directed toward pretty much everyone, are a lot more troubling to me.

How sad that the music class had to become an after-school program.

Would the suits from the district actually do the audit themselves or send their worker bees to handle it?
