S03.E08: Quarterfinal #8: Sean Gunn, D'Arcy Carden and Sherry Cola

Recommended Posts

(edited)

Looking her up (as I'd never heard of her), I confirmed my assumption Sherry Cola is a chosen, not given, name so I don't have to wonder what the hell her parents were thinking.  Sherry is real, Cola is not, and "Sherry Cola" started when picking a name to leave Yelp reviews, became a general social media name, and then her stand-up comedy name (since there are a lot of nicknames in comedy) and stuck as her stage name.  I've never seen her in anything.

I didn't recognize Sean Gunn's name, either, and, checking his credits, the only thing I've seen him in was an episode of Any Day Now -- but, since his role was "clerk" I quite understandably do not recognize him.

D'Arcy Carden, on the other hand, I greatly enjoyed as Janet on The Good Place and then Greta on the tragically short-lived streaming series A League of Their Own.

I like Sherry Cola. She had a role on the show that was a spin off of The Fosters... I can't remember the name of the show at the moment. But she played a lesbian who was also a comedian and also doing the admin for a collective household in the Bay Area. It was a cool show and really the only thing I've ever seen on TV that had characters with any cultural similarity to my own life experience.

I also saw her in a movie... again I can't remember the name of it. But she seems to play characters who are somewhat outside the mainstream culture, and queer or queer-adjacent.

Sherry Cola was annoying.

I’m SO glad Gulf of Mexico was in a clue 😉

I just wish the Gulf of Mexico clue was written and filmed after February 10th, which, among other things, is National Hangover Day.

Here's Sherry Cola's IMDb page: imdb.com/name/nm8781499
Her speaking voice is just like Miley Cyrus's.

Yet another game where I had not a clue who these "celebrities" were.

Yeah, I don't think most of the contestants fit the dictionary definition of celebrity.
On shows like OG Hollywood Squares or Match Game, where the same actors appeared every day or week, they did eventually become well known, even if just primarily as regular game show contestants.
But here, it's mostly a one-and-done scenario.

Maybe they should rename it something like Dollars for Charity Jeopardy!?
Or Jeopardy! Lite for Charity?

As a fan of Gilmore Girls and Marvel, I definitely know Sean Gunn. And I loved D'Arcy in both The Good Place and Barry. I think they both fit into the Hey, It's That Guy/Girl, not A-list but definitely recognizable.

No idea who Sherry Cola is but she seemed nice enough.

I wonder how much better D'Arcy would have been if she hadn't been grieving her Grandma. 10 days is not much time and I don't think she was in the proper head space for this.

I got the Final Jeopardy question right! Went through the rainbow and purple was the only one I could not remember seeing on many flags.
