This is after Matt had to clarify to Serena that he isn't gay, but maybe this episode was filmed before that one.

I was wondering that too.  Joyce was talking about the VIP room as though it was something new, but I thought it was introduced in an earlier episode.

I was curious if people have actually been to hospitals where the ER staff tried to upsell them with unnecessary procedures?  I would think that kind of thing could get a real hospital into a lot of trouble.

Confused. The guy Serena sold her ticket to asked "so is this my date?" when he saw Matt. Did he think it was an actual date or was he just being facetious? This is after Matt had to clarify to Serena that he isn't gay, but maybe this episode was filmed before that one. I wasn't sure what to make of the situation.

I thought it was more like they would be going together in the same car, since the guy seemed to care more about who was going to drive, since he was going to be drinking heavily.

IIRC, wasn't that a suite for doctors/nurses to sleep (or for quickies!)

I haven't had that happen in any medical facility, but nothing would surprise me these days, so it might happen in some facilities!

The VIP suite was where Alex and her husband had their date in S01.E08: Gimme the Scuttlebutt.

I think they're more likely to try to deny you things, but it probably depends on what insurance you have.

Serena did say that all the stuff the other team upsold was rejected by insurance.

I think Joyce was trying to get them to upsell to wealthy people who would be wiloling to pay extra for something like the VIP suite, but that's not typically the bulk of people who show up in the emergency room, is it?

The show is not the kind of show oit pays to think too deeply about.

I loved "As long as he doesn't talk, he's not a bad guy to hang out with."

I liked the guys trying to fix the pipes (even though that would never happen in a real hospital).

Also a little dangerous for Bruce as a surgeon to risk damaging his hands (not so much using the wrenches, but he was also welding a hammer.)

What insurance will pay for a person to get an elective colonoscopy 8 years early/pre-approve it the same day? Plus, the patient would need to see a gastroenterologist first.

The 8 years early is the sticking point, nobody needs to see a gastroenterologist before getting a colonoscopy if they were over 45, you can just mail your poop to someone now. That must be a shit job.

I get that you're probably joking, but for those who don't know, (and having known people with colon cancer) I must say that "mailing your poop" is in no way equivalent to a colonoscopy, which is a visual exam that is extremely accurate at detecting polyps (and allowing removal), before they turn cancerous.  Colonoscopies are performed by gastroenterologists, who generally see you before you book a procedure. Stool tests primarily look for signs that you already have cancer.

If there is a family history of colorectal cancer, the current recommendation is to start colonoscopy 10 years before the age that the family member was first diagnosed.  This is also recommended if the family member had significant pre-cancerous polyps.

For the average person, colon cancer is extremely treatable if detected at a timely colonoscopy.  Unfortunately, there are those without a known family history who will develop it early, before the recommended screening age.

I've mailed my poop & also had a colonoscopy and at no time did I have to see a gastroenterologist before the colonoscopy which was the whole point of the original post. I have also recommended it to people as a starting point on many occasions when they have asked as I've lost family members to all sorts of cancers, I had 13 aunts & uncles growing up.

Oh & I'm also married to a nurse of 30 years so I'm sorry for having a sense of humor about something a lot of people find embarrassing to start with.

I get an upsell at almost every specialist appointment I go to-- dentist, eye doctor, OBGYN, etc. I even had one doctor try to get me to purchase intimate apparel from her husband's company. Charming!
