S21.E02: Take Me to Church

Bailey and Meredith working together was the highlight of the episode for me; they’re one of the few doctors left that I buy as being at the top of their fields.

All the death imagery with Levi’s patient was a bit heavy handed, but still touching. I liked the reverend and the kid was a surprisingly good actor. Seems like he might be a long term patient and I’m guessing that his death will bring about Levi’s exit. His ambivalence regarding his fellowship and the intensity of his emotions surrounding this case makes me think they’re phasing him out of medicine, or at out of least Grey Sloan.

Same with Yasuda. She and Jules have yet to speak onscreen about where their relationship is going or why they even like each other beyond physical attraction but even so, something tells me their relationship isn’t going to be a lasting one. I have a feeling Yasuda will take up the now free spot in Chicago and leave Greys that way, but I would prefer something more tragic and dramatic.

It’s been a while since there’s been a main character death that I cared about and though I’m sure the show would rather not invoke the Bury Your Gays trope, Greys has never been shy about taking out it’s main characters and if written well and with care, a death could make for some good or at least memorable tv.

Unlike Kwan’s amnesiac fiancé plot. The actress is great but it’s such a random, soapy plot and I don’t really see the point.

@anna0852 I didn’t pick up on that but it makes sense and would be a better plot than what I assumed, which was that they would engage in yet another cheating scandal.

When everyone was talking about how groundbreaking Catherine was, I felt like I missed something.  My recollection is she ran her ex-husband's father's family's foundation.  She also helped cover up for Harper Avery when he had a lot of sexual harassment claims brought against him, but instead of taking the fall when that information came out, the foundation was renamed after her, for reasons.  Why is she supposed to be such a trailblazer?

Last season I also found the hair on Derek's nephew to be bizarre with the huge slope of hair extending in the front.

On the subway and at the gym, every second male under 21 has that haircut,,,,and I suspect some get perms to make it look that way.   The nephew is far too old for that ridiculous style.

How old is the actor?   Are they trying to make him look younger?

She was introduced as a cutting-edge urologist who thought plastic surgery was beneath Jackson. Supposedly she grew the foundation into what it is and renamed it after herself. Since the Averys were/are a family of doctors, it's interesting that Catherine was the one who took over the foundation after Jackson's dad ran away. They could have named the foundation after a number of other Averys. For example, Harriet Avery Foundation.
