The 126 race into action when a major train derailment causes multiple injuries. Tommy makes a bold move in her relationship with Trevor. Marjan and Paul continue to compete for the open position.

Wow. No replies huh?

It's a shame we had to lose Grace, but sliding Wyatt into the 911 role is a good use of that character, especially after his accident. I'm not sure what else they would have done with him.

I still think Judd is ultimately going to come back to the station, but now I wonder if he'll just end up replacing Owen in the season finale or something. It's kind of a waste of his character to be off on his own little subplot the whole season away from the other characters.

A thread wasn't created so I created one this morning.

I have a feeling that neither Marjan or Paul is going to be promoted (how ridiculously stupid was it that they tied with the highest score ever on that test?).  They made a point of saying that Mateo was a Lt. previously and, even though he doesn't seem to want it, I think he's going to get the open position.

I did watch it.
So the poor guy who hitched a ride on the train when his car broke down on his way to be with his brother who was having a heart transplant is going to be in the fiery, explosive wreckage for another week.
I guess the guy with the unicorn that they rescued is going to ask about the guy on the train, which will cause some of our heroes to look for him.
Wanna place virtual bets on who looks for him?
Or does he just manage to call Maddie on his phone?
Oops. Wrong show. Still, he might call 9-1-1 Lone Star Wyatt.

Yes, it seemed clear with the rescue Mateo performed (while everyone seemed to just sit around watching) that's where this is heading.  Mateo has grown but does not seem like Lt. material still.

I thought this episode was better than the first I just feel like they're wasting a lot of characters.  Did Carlos do anything more than bring by donuts?  Then there's Mateo's GF who's shown so little I can't even remember her name.  And reducing Marjan and Paul to this... I don't dislike Wyatt but he's not a character I've known long or grown attached to and with this being the final season I'd rather time be spent on the original cast.

I know he had other things on his mind but I kept waiting for the rescued driver to ask about the young man on the train.  If he doesn't make it and that horrible reporter does I will  not be happy.

I know there was a lot going on in the ep but “CALLER: BWEE-HAAA BWEE-HAAA” made me laugh until I cried.

Harmonica mouth was definitely meant as comic relief. Sadly, a fairly believable one these days.

You may be on to something there. During the rescue in the car trapped under the train all I could keep thinking was why the heck isn't TK doing this — you know, someone almost as small as Mateo who has a lot more actual medical training? And TK's had pretty much nothing to do so far.

I do think some of the characters have so far been underutilized, but to be fair the last episode was pretty Carlos-heavy, so it was balanced out a bit.

I don't imagine they can keep Judd sidelined as a trucker for too long. I think using Wyatt to tie in the call centre is one of the better decisions they've made this season.

I literally had to put my hand over my eyes during harmonica mouth. For some reason that freaked me out more than blood and guts lol, and I couldn't watch it. Even thinking about it now makes me shudder.

Rob Lowe's favorite part of the episode - a verbal proclamation for all to hear, "You're too tall!"

It annoyed me that, amidst Owen's flailing and total indecision about promoting Marjan or Paul, he was so steadfast and firm and immediate in turning down Judd.  Like, OK fine, decide that I guess, but it seemed like an extra turn in the blade to be so decisive about that when Owen was going to punt the LT decision to test results.  That tied to the hundredth of a percentage.  Sure.  Suuuuuuuure.

I'm not sure if the reporter is just a victim to save in the next episode, but when I first saw her, I assumed she was going to end up a new girlfriend for Owen.  "Oh great, he gets his own Taylor."  (Buck's reporter ex from 9-1-1.)

I enjoyed Mateo's contribution this episode.  It also made me that more annoyed about how poorly they use him in general.  That awful 80s sitcom tv show episode in a previous season, or whatever the hell that was!

I don't need any reason to eat a ton of donuts.  No one has to ask me, "what's going on with you?" because I did.  All that's going on is, I like donuts.

IIRC, the 126 station was already destroyed once in a season finale and then rebuilt the next season.  But I wouldn't put it past this show to somehow destroy it again at the end of the series, or redraw jurisdictions for stations, so that the 126 is eliminated entirely.  But of course, the 126 is such a lauded and special house of firefighters that they are all purposely scattered across the country to bring their skills and leadership to firehouses in other large cities.  Like a reverse of how they all came together in the pilot.  Then they all get to be lieutenants somewhere.  Including Mateo.  Provided he gets accommodations so he can pass the exam.  We all know what happened with his initial exam to bump up from probie.

Still miss Grace.  A lot.  They need to at least show us Judd's end of phone conversations with her.  They don't need to provide audio of her voice.  Just let us know they are still talking regularly and are in a good place as a couple.  None of this unconnected call business.

I love when these shows have these almost Final Destination style disasters that happen thanks to these increasingly wild coincidences and personal stories. Of course one of the victims was just promising his daughter how this is the last time he misses her recital, of course one jumped the train to get to his brother who just had a heart transplant, I am here for it.

I bet the car crash victim asks about the guy on the train just as they take him away in the ambulance, just in time for the next episode. I hope he survives, even if they also have to waste time on that stupid reporter when she gets her and her camera guy into trouble.

I think they might be heading towards Matteo taking the Lt. job, which...Matteo has really come into his own doing this job, but he is probably not ready for that sort of leadership role.

I miss Grace and I hope they don't keep Judd away from the main plot for too long.

As an Ohioan, this felt like it was "ripped from the headlines" from the East Palestine train derailment. Interesting that they went with propane instead of a more hazardous chemical like hydrogen chloride or styrene. Of course propane makes for a better explosion which is probably cheaper from a FX point of view.

I always hate when these shows start off with really likable characters because I know that means one of them is going to die. I assume that the train rider is going to die slowly on the phone with his brother or by the news crew recording his final moments. Especially since Girl Dad was rescued.

My first thought when the train went off the track was that the brother of the heart transplant recipient would wind up being a donor for his brother when his brother's body rejects the heart he was given moments before the train derailment.

But don't most victims survive on this show?

I don't remember if it was the beginning of this episode or the last one. A little boy was being bullied and he ran off. A lady came out of bushes with blood coming out of her eyes, he screamed and then they showed the toxic cloud. Was that the reporter?

It was at the beginning of the last episode. I just rewatched both scenes, and it does look like the same person.
