LSSC: Season Ten Episode Talk

Recommended Posts

Another good, funny monologue last night with a pretty receptive audience.

Favorites:

“You know you’re on the right track when the explanation is ‘blood everywhere’”

“There is a silver lining on the implosion of the world economy. It’s bad for Elon Musk”, which got an extended audience applause, as did several other Musk digs

Stephen’s interview with Gary Oldman is worth the price of admission.

I think my favorite part was when Stephen asked him if he could demonstrate becoming an evil character in a few seconds and it seems like he was preparing to do so, then lost it and giggled for a few seconds. Then Gary demonstrated what James Cagney said was the way to show an evil (or tough) character, by raising the head first, then the eyes. Brr

And then I tried it out in the mirror, LOL.

I liked whe he got right up in the screen and was gritting out his rant.

That part was the highlight of the monologue. Yes Trump Administration Signal chat group, just why did you invite the reporter into your chat if you hate him so much? He really laid into that whole scandal and spent a lot of the monologue on it. I was also tickled when he would leave the camera frame, then return and say hi

Tonight was pretty great, especially the Jake Gyllenhaal and Roxane Gay interviews.

But about the Colorado portrait brouhaha: (https://youtu.be/p9hoP1TAbwc&t=444)
I've painted portraits for over 60 years, and that is a terrible likeness.

It’s certainly not a great likeness, but I don’t think it’s the horror show Trump was making it out to be. And he brought a lot of attention to what would likely have remained an obscure thing

For sure! The artist's portrait of Obama is almost equally as bad; both serve as examples of perhaps the most common pitfall of portrait painting: incorporating the artist's own likeness into the subject's.
Of course now Teflon #47 has other, bigger fires to put out.

For the love of God will someone please adopt Norbert!!????

Loved seeing Sam Waterston. The Newsroom has been my "background noise" tv show the last few weeks.  Loved the bit about "you know me from...the fever dream when you fell asleep with Law and Order on".

And this clip from an old SNL. I love how 50 was considered "old" back then.

Now we don't have to worry about robots, just Teslas on auto pilot plowing into us and bursting into flames.

NORBERT HAS BEEN ADOPTED!!!

When did Seth Rogen get so hot?  Loved how he gave each puppy a little smooch.

The Studio is hilarious.

Best lines in monologue last night:

“One day he won’t be president”. Extended audience applause. “Maybe”

After showing a clip of VP Vance seeing some soldiers in Greenland and swearing, “Wow JD, nice mouth. You kiss your couch with that mouth?”

Regarding Greenland not wanting Usha Vance to visit, including to a souvenir shop. “You know you’re not wanted when you get rejected by a souvenir store”

OMGEEEEEE!!!!!  Remington Steele Pierce Brosnan!!!!!

In Love Hearts GIF

I had to stop watching all my shows after November 6, well, because. Then I saw this on YouTube and I was lost.

But Slow my racing heart, the man still looks DAYUM HAWT!!! And the oirish brogue for Mobland? I'm sooooo in! Not for nothing, but in me mind, in his Thomas Crown Affair days, he's the image of Roarke in J.D. Robb's In Death Series, which, I'm thankful never made it to screen, because they would just FUCK IT UP. But, my oh my oh my....

Where was I again?

FWIW, ontvtonight.com shows an even later, 12:35 start time.🤷‍♀️
Maybe it depends upon how long the game runs. I don't know how any of this works.

If one has a DVR, I would record the 2 or 3 shows after it. There will be something like a 10 minute late start to some of the episodes next week also. I'll have to check my DVR as I don't remember when at the moment

My guide still has an 11:35 start time. But no way. Between the game itself which should go past 11 and then the trophy presentation, no chance.

If  u like acting, actors, wotev, yeah, i guess it was okay. Boring to me, tho. I really don't care to hear again about how much fun an actor had working with his fellows and how great their movie/show is, wotev. If i ever get streamed, i might see some of them (probly not). I'm jaded from a lifetime of watch TV/movies, maybe. But i love a good tale, told well, and really irritated at those stories that are not well done. Don't get me wrong, I would not say i'm a fan of Oldman, but he has been in great movies and is a great actor. Love the guy, just not all that interested in hearing talk about acting, etc.

Poor Stephen, he's frustrated thespian, yanno. His career has been a resounding success from the Report up to now, but he's really only interested in being an actor, and seems to not be able to just get into what he has now, and what he does now. Too bad.

Jimmy Kimmel, however, is a great interviewer and talk show host, the best i've ever known. He was merely blessed with the talent for that.

"I had to roll down the window..." gave me a good laugh XD. I also liked his pick for what song he'd listen to for the rest of his life, didn't expect that one. I like that question, ,it's fun to see what songs the people who take this quiz pick.

Another good monologue last night with Stephen as usual ripping the heck out of the administration. It does make me wonder how the various late night hosts are feeling about having such great comic material from this administration while the country is falling apart due to said current administration

I know Stephen has talked mutiple times about how he would gladly take lower ratings if it meant Trump were no longer in office. And I know John Oliver's ranted before about how people would say to him, "Oh, I bet you're glad Trump's back, you've got so much material" and he's just like, "'NO." I imagine the other late night hosts feel similarly - they're probably wishing we could go back to the days when an affair was the worst kind of scandal for a politician. With Trump, on the other hand, everything with Stormy was just a blip on a radar full of insane bullshit.

The show was pretty good last night, from the hilarious cold open showing the nonsensical way Trump and his people arrived at their tariff numbers to the monologue to Sheryl Lee Ralph. She was a trip and I wonder if she was more revved up than usual due to possible pain meds due to her arm injury

Favorite bits from the monologue:

- Stephen celebrating at the beginning that the Dow was back

- on the tariff pause: “Thank goodness that at 1:18pm today that Donald Trump made a decision that at the last minute saved our nation from a previous decision by Donald Trump”

- on Trump claiming he won’t back down: “His policies will never change especially his policy that his policies always change. That one is solid as a rock. For now”

- about Trump saying he put the tariffs on pause because people were getting yippy: “Yes, Russia was watching Trump tank the economy and going Yippee!”

Jay Leno has said in a couple of interviews in the past few years that he got out of the late night scene just in time...for the very reasons you stated. I too yearn for the days when a sex scandal was the worst thing a politician did...and when our presidents actually loved their country.

I'm glad I watched Woody Harrelson Takes The Colbert Questionert.
He is now redeemed again for me — at least until he does or says some other bone-headed thing, LOL:

Finally someone who answered the "what's the scariest animal" question the way I would.  I've always thought it cannot be anything other than a human.  How much mayhem can a snake or a bear cause?  Look around you and see what human beings can do to entire communities, countries, ethnic or religious groups.

I wonder if on the day Stephen decides to love the show, he will tell us what number he's been thinking of!
