Crashcourse July 9 Share July 9 I dunno. Denzel just doesn't seem right for the role. Too bad they couldn't cast Djimon Hounsou because he was in the original. 1 Link to comment
Spartan Girl July 9 Share July 9 Denzel, where have you been?! I didn’t recognize Joseph. They made him look like Joffrey. Im gonna see this for the plot. *stares at Pedro and Paul* Yeah, the plot. 😉 2 Link to comment
Kel Varnsen July 21 Share July 21 Looks good. Although I am disappointed they didn't call it "Gladiators" since it should be obvious that when making the sequel to a Ridley Scott movie changing the title from a singular word to a plural word is a guarantee of a hit. 2 Link to comment

Spartan Girl September 24 Share September 24 So Lucius is Maximus’s son?! I honestly thought he was the product of incest with Lucilla and Commodus. Link to comment
baldryanr September 24 Share September 24 In the first film he's named after his official father, Lucius Verus. Fun fact, the real Lucius Verus was co-emperor of Rome and adopted brother of Marcus Aurelius. Since Maximus and Lucilla were exes, I guess he was conceived around the time they broke up and she didn't want her son to be considered a bastard. Or she had an affair. I always had the impression that Commodus had been trying to sleep with Lucilla for years but she had always been able to hold him off. 3 Link to comment

Avabelle November 20 Share November 20 When is this out in the US? I saw it today in Ireland and dying to discuss it. Was it ever stated explicitly that Lucious was Maximus son? I feel it’s being stated as fact but I always thought he was a legitimate son of Lucilla and her late husband before the first film. 1 Link to comment
Morrigan2575 November 20 Share November 20 It releases tomorrow. I don't think it was ever stated but, it was certainly hinted at that Maximus and Lucilla had a thing for each other. It's probably a retcon but it doesn't destroy the lore. 1 Link to comment
Avabelle November 21 Share November 21 The history between Lucilla/Maximus I remember being a big part of the film I just don’t think Lucious being his son was ever stated or even a potential plot point. Probably as it would have taken the impact out of his wife and son being murdered at the start of the film. Agree though it doesn’t take away from it too much. Just if you’ve watched it the original recently its probably jarring to see Lucilla go from clearly being in love with Maximus but Lucious as his son never being mentioned to her stating Maximus is the father like it’s a well known fact. 1 Link to comment

tv echo November 26 Share November 26 (edited) Gladiator II opened to $55M domestic and $220M worldwide... https://www.boxofficemojo.com/release/rl1778156289/?ref_=bo_hm_rd 'Gladiator II' Slays One of 2024's Highest-Profile Sequels in Its Opening Weekend Jake Hodges Nov 25, 2024 https://collider.com/gladiator-2-box-office-joker-2/ Quote Remarkably, despite just one week at the box office and a mere three days in US theaters, Gladiator II has slashed right through to the edge of the top 20 movies of the year worldwide, and, in doing so, has already surpassed the global total of another of the year's highest-profile sequels, Joker: Folie á Deux. Ridley Scott's swords-and-sandals sequel has already amassed $221 million globally, $15 million higher than the Joker sequel's feeble $206 million. * * * Although there's plenty to like in the Gladiator sequel, from breathtaking action sequences to smart political theming, there's not a soul who left their screening that didn't gush over the performance of Denzel Washington as Macrinus. Based on the real historical figure, Macrinus is a former slave owner with a dream of one day finding revenge by controlling Rome and delivering bloody punishment. Caught up in this evil plan as his prized possession is Paul Mescal's Lucius, with Washington easily delivering almost all the movie's most memorable moments. Because of this colossal performance, Washington is already being touted as a strong contender for the Best Supporting Actor award at next year's Oscars. ....
