I haven't, though truth be told I don't read novels that much. Non fiction is more my jam, though of course there are exceptions, like Kate Atkinson! Its so disappointing when you find a new writer and they can't keep up the momentum. Or something gets great reviews and it turns out to be dog. I tried one of the Three Pines books because I heard so much great stuff about them, and it was the worst *********** I ever endured. I had to read it through because I was on the bus and had nothing else, but my god. And do NOT get me started on anything set in Salem. Every single one I've tried I hurled across the room before I hit 100 pages. I do like a good mystery but in my experience they are thin on the ground! I do love British books like Angela Thirkell's Barseshire series, and D. E. Stevenson. And I like Indian writers, A Suitable Boy is probably my favorite book ever.

The Three Pines books were good in the very beginning but then they got worse and then very bad.

I tried the first one and I found it so horrifically bad I was actually emitting strangled squawking sounds on the bus as I struggled through it. It was AWFUL. That woman whose character building detail was that she was such a sloppy eater she'd get food in her hair? Jesus. And I figured out who the murderer was by about page 40. The only other thing I ever read to the end (again, stuck on the bus) was Spare Keys by Jane Smiley. Jesus, what a slab of shit THAT was. I was all "Jesus, these people are so unlikeable, no wonder they're getting murdered. There's probably a line of potential murderers begging for a shot at them".

Good evening, everyone! I'm drinking wine and wondering who, other than the two Olympians and the felon, are the so-called "stars" we're dancing with .

One of them (Julian Edelman) was a New England Patriot who made one of the most miraculous catches the Super Bowl has ever seen.

That's why I stopped watching--I don't know who any of the "stars" are. That and the inspiration porn. Though Nyle DeMarco! Rowr!

I do tend to enjoy the football players. Remember when Doug Flutie was on? Jesus, he was terrible! Usually the footballers are pretty good.

It’s actually called Duplicate Keys. I just looked it up. I read it years ago because it actually took place on our Upper West Side Block. I remember liking it for that reason

That's right, even as I was typing Spare Keys I knew it was wrong!

I read Jane Smiley's book Moo and loved it. Every other thing that I've picked up by her has been a DOG.

She wrote two novellas in the 80s I really liked (at least at the time). I could not stand her megapopular Thousand Acres.

No! Tell me more!

They turned one or two of the books into a series on Disney + (I think). The author unfortunately recently passed away (CJ Samson) but it is a series of historical mystery fiction set in Tudor England. Very well researched, rich characters, very engrossing.

Me either! I read the entire tome because I was waiting for big payoff. There WAS no big payoff. Just read King Lear instead.
