aghst May 10 Share May 10 I didn't realize Helen Hunt is playing the network exec. As it turns out, they're promoting a reboot of Twister these days. I guess it's a sign of the impact Ava has had on her that she had to speak up about the homophobic comments -- or anti-trans -- comments of the old school comics whom Deborah idolized. Before she knew Ava, Deborah would have allowed those comments go unchallenged or be indifferent to them. Maybe even partake in riffing some comments on her own. It is a real thing that some of the older comics go all-in on being as anti-PC as they can, many of them specifically disdaining the values of Gen Z -- Ava is suppose to be an older Gen Z? -- how they specifically would groan or boo the kind of comments they made. Also did a good job of showing how much Ava is sacrificing by deciding to work with Ava again. Why wouldn't her gf be more supportive if Ava feels close to Deborah, wants to work with her? Yes they had some arguments but by the end of season 2, their relationship was at a high point -- which makes you wonder why Ava would have told the gf all the issues they had because in totality, the relationship was a positive thing or else she wouldn't even entertain going back to collaborate with Deborah again. So that awkwardness when they ran into the elevator is because they matter so much to each other -- though that's not necessarily indicative of a healthy relationship -- but their previous relationship did lead to some of the most professionally and personally gratifying results for both. I didn't realize that the show runners are still doing Inside the Episode. The Max app tries to get you to watch something else when the credits run. But after about 2-3 minutes of credits, they show the previews for the next episode and then the 3 show runners discussing the episode. You can access the Inside the Episodes in the Extras section of the Series page. Really good discussions of what they were trying to do and some behind the scenes dish like when Jimmy and Kayla slap each other on the butt during the pickle ball match, Paul Downs say that was not improvised, they did write it in. 2 Link to comment
maddie965 May 10 Share May 10 Are colonoscopy parties a thing? I cringed so hard. I don't think Ava really cares for the girlfriend. She should have known the breakup was coming. Acting surprised made it even worse. 1 Link to comment

The first thing that came up when I googled was Steve Martin and Martin Short, but I’m sure there are more. Personally I’d prefer privacy, but then, I also don’t try to tell jokes in front of thousands of people. 6 Link to comment
maddie965 May 11 Share May 11 I would never! It's bad enough alone. Deborah stealing the toilet paper was the best part of the episode, though. 7 Link to comment
Quickbeam May 12 Share May 12 Stephen Tobolowsky will always be Ned Ryerson from Groundhogs Day. ”Needle Nose Ned!” 6 Link to comment

SoMuchTV May 12 Share May 12 The first thing I thought of here was folks like Norman Lear and Carl Reiner who famously did stuff together, then I remembered that once you get to 70-something, generally you get a pass on colonoscopies, since statistically it’s much more likely that something else will get to you first. She'll always be Jamie Buchman to me. I'm rewatching Mad About You and I had forgotten how adorable she was then (and how great that show was). Semi-related, I recently discovered that Hannah Einbinder is Laraine Newman's daughter. Also cute, although in a different way. Yes, first-run MAY and SNL season 1 watcher here. I'm old. 2 Link to comment

Men of a Certain Age did a colonoscopy storyline where all of the guys went to a hotel together so they'd provide support to each other but each had their own bathroom when the prep hit. Speaking of colonoscopy prep, that part of the episode seemed to have been written by people who have never done one. You can't sip random amounts of Metamucil (in martini glasses or otherwise). You need to consume specific amounts of your prep solution with copious amounts of liquid at specific intervals or you risk an incomplete cleanse of your colon. Then the GI doctor won't be able to perform a proper colonoscopy and you'll have to do the whole thing over again. (And yes, I know it's a comedy, but it was so far from reality that it took me out of those scenes.) Edited July 5 by ItCouldBeWorse Link to comment

You can also blackmail your buddy into coming with you at the last minute to get one too, and you never have to stay up all night to prep! 1 Link to comment
