iMonrey June 14 Share June 14 They've dropped Group Chat, they've dropped For The Win, how long before they drop Hashtag Wars? I get that they probably want to make this show their own but every move they make away from the original has been for the worse. Every substitute they've come up with in place of For The Win has been increasingly dumb and pointless. Having the panelists come out one at a time and pander to the audience also seems like a stupid time waster. Still, they got a second season. It's probably a pretty cheap show to produce. 3 Link to comment

ottoDbusdriver June 15 Share June 15 Wednesday's show was pretty bad -- if you're going to have a cameo maybe have someone famous or infamous or at least recognizable. I had no idea who Drew was. (The) Dating Game was dumb. The Pinata bashing for FTW was even dumber. 2 Link to comment
ottoDbusdriver June 15 Share June 15 An 'Animal Off' to decide the winner ? It wasn't funny. I want the comedians to earn the win by being creative and coming up with something funny. What's next -- pick a number between 1 and 10 to decide the winner ? This is just lazy. 4 Link to comment
iMonrey June 15 Share June 15 They're spinning out of control trying too many things. I get that the writers feel compelled to come up with new games all the time to justify their salaries but they should hone in on the games they know work. They should have stuck to the formula with Group Chat first, Hashtag Wars second, then picked a few new games that have worked really well and stuck with those. By now they've come up with enough good ones and too many bad ones to keep trying new ones. 5 Link to comment

ottoDbusdriver June 22 Share June 22 Tuesday's episode with Patton Oswalt, Terry Crews, and Joe Manganiello was a lot of fun. The 'People vs.' game was pretty good. FTW game was at least something the comedians had to come up with an answer -- still wish Taylor would read the answers so as not to give away who wrote what, but in this case the shortest answer won so it didn't really matter. 3 Link to comment
iMonrey June 22 Share June 22 (edited) I think the changes from the original show just demonstrate that this works much better in a half hour format. Each episode started with Group Chat, followed by Hashtag Wars, and then one new game, and then onto For The Win. It was consistent, because if the one new game didn't really work they still had the other reliable ones. All of the padding they've added to the hour-long version doesn't work. And with them constantly tinkering with the format it's more hit-or-miss than ever. Edited June 22 by iMonrey 3 1 Link to comment
Chyromaniac June 24 Share June 24 (edited) For me it’s not necessarily the format or length - it’s the guests. I just enjoy the show more when the comics are funny and likable - and I think it works better with actors and improvisers rather than stand-ups or (god save us) podcasters. Like, I didn’t mind watching an hour (or 40-ish minutes) of Tuesday or Thursday’s shows- but Wednesday dragged a bit, and Monday was a slog. Granted, some of this just comes down to personal taste, and ymmv when it comes to what’s funny - but I think overall, with the stand-ups it’s much more dependent on their personality -while the performers can just go with the game premise. I will say, the thing they’ve lost structurally with no FTW, is that it gave the show a natural crowd pop to go out on, because they always cheered when their favorite was announced. With an essentially arbitrary winner, you don’t really get that, and sometimes the show falls flat at the last moment. Edited June 24 by Chyromaniac 2 Link to comment

ottoDbusdriver July 11 Share July 11 Monday's show with Baron, Rhys, and Rory was pretty funny. Got to credit Baron Vaughn with the Billy Ocean reference in one of his responses. It was Rhys Darby's first time on After Midnight -- he was on @Midnight pretty regularly. Baron Vaughn's first time on after Midnight as well. 1 Link to comment
possibilities July 11 Share July 11 I also enjoyed Monday's show. I thought maybe they decided to actually write good material and not just figure insomniacs will watch anything. But the I thought Tuesday's show was a return to dudsville. It had some funny moments but overall, meh. So I guess I credit the guests on Monday, or maybe the writing team used all their ideas up on Monday.. Link to comment
iMonrey July 11 Share July 11 I thought Tuesday's show was awful, but then I have never found the Sklar brothers funny, ever. I don't know how they have a career as comics. And when the comedians are that bad it makes Taylor's fake laugh ten times worse. She shouldn't be in hysterics over every little thing they say when the audience sits there stone-faced. And the lamp game was just about the dumbest thing they've come up with yet. 2 Link to comment
possibilities July 11 Share July 11 I did like the sweater one of the Sklar bros was wearing. It kind of creeps me out how they never appear anywhere except as a pair. Makes me sad because I liked the original show and I could use some humor before bed. 1 Link to comment

possibilities July 20 Share July 20 I think Taylor is the best thing about this remake. Her pesonality is refreshingly different than what we get from most other people who get to be on tv. At this point, I'm watching for her. I also think that if I stop comparing it to the original, and just try to think of it as a totally different thing, it doesn't irritate me as much. That show was for people who like clever writing and a rapid pace of jokes. This show is for people looking for a kind of chaotic hang out goofiness. I am more the former than the latter, but if I don't think of it as a failed knock off, I can appreciate what they are doing, for what it is. It feels lazy to me, and often kind of boring, like hanging out sober with a bunch of people who are drunk or high-- they think they are having a good time but their joy is disproportionate to what is actually happening. But I don't think there's anything wrong with it. Having a junk food snack is fun sometimes. This show is like a junk food snack before bed. Loose. 2 1 Link to comment
ottoDbusdriver July 20 Share July 20 I thought the Tuesday show and Thursday show were the better episodes this week. Flula's energy and enthusiasm is great to watch. Link to comment
possibilities July 25 Share July 25 I liked Taylor saying "Don't interrupt me when I'm talking" on Wednesday's show. Lots of studies show men interrupt women at a migh higher rate than they interrupt each other. I know she was kidding around, but I still liked it. 1 Link to comment
iMonrey July 27 Share July 27 I've been able to tell by the end of the first segment whether or not the panel is any good. When they are not - such as Wednesday's show with Dustin Nickerson, Reggie Watts and Irene Tu, I just skip right to Hashtag Wars and then turn it off. No point in wasting my time on any of the rest of it. Link to comment
ottoDbusdriver July 30 Share July 30 Catching up on last week's shows. Monday's FTW was just .... odd. It was basically a Price is Right pricing game. Not really a good demonstration of comedic skills (and Joe Mategna got screwed in FTW by thinking it was an annual Paramount+ subscription instead of a monthly subscription). Tuesday's FTW was a playdoh sculpture contest, which was ok I guess, but I really did like Tuesday's show with Anna, Andy, and Melissa. Been an Andy Richter fan going back to the Late Night with Conan O'Brien show on NBC. Fun Fact: Anna and Andy were both in Scary Movie 2. June Squibb's cameo was fun. 1 Link to comment
ottoDbusdriver July 30 Share July 30 Wednesday's show was painfully not funny. And the FTW was literally "guess this random staffer's name from 2 name options ?". How lazy is that ? 1 Link to comment

iMonrey July 31 Share July 31 So basically we had two shows that were quite good, and two that were really, really bad. Hence my formula for watching the first segment just to see if the panel is any good - you can tell pretty quickly. Then skipping to the end if they suck. 1 1 Link to comment

iMonrey September 12 Share September 12 It looks like they've dropped "For the Win" and eliminating a panelist. Now whoever wins Hashtag Wars is just the winner. Also the talk portion now has a real couch they sit on. The show continues to move further and further away from the original format, leaning into the talk-show hybrid formula. Link to comment
