S05.E01: A Second Chance

Mel's facial expression in the first scene with Jack at the trailer was especially annoying.  The pouty face that Jack doesn't want to talk about the twin situation reminded me how annoying I find Mel.

Also, I still cannot get behind this relationship it's been what maybe a year since they met? Which isn't in itself problematic but add in all Mel's unresolved baggage and Jack's and I can't believe Mel's sister didn't once raise some concerns.

Mel leaving the clinic because... Last season the new Doctor expressed some concerns about Jack and showed interest in Mel?  I wish someone earlier has expressed some concerns.  If Mel was my friend, I would have been trying to get her to see the red flags... I mean yes new doctor pointing that out and hitting on Mel was inappropriate, but Mel now can't work with him. Or he can't work with her? Ridiculous just ridiculous.

Preacher and Paige... what was the point?  I guess the point was Preacher breaks up with his new flame to be left high and dry so he can be sad all season / try to convince the martial arts teacher to give him another chance.

Jack being upset that he was lied to about being the father is understandable; however, it seems he was more upset by the fact he won't be a dad to BOYS!

Brady... Oh Brady you can't seem to escape the shady life.

Yep, the show is still annoying, but the scenery is nice and honestly Netflix doesn't have much to watch so yeah, I'll be watching and snarking.

All of the seasons of angst with the missing Paige and then, boom, gotta go, see you later.

They really hustled her out of the show, didn't they?

At the dojo she told him not to try, basically. They seem dunzo for good.

Ugh, I KNOW. Does he not realize girls can do just about anything boys can?

I was excited to have something back to watch. Even though we are talking about Virgin River. It’s as maddening as watching most Hallmark shows.
I still haven’t finished watching the first episode as I keep pausing it and finding other things to do but I have to chime in and say the hospital scene where Mel’s mom is dying and the nurse tries to distract a child Mel really grated (as do most scenes of this show). The nurse had Mel take her blood pressure in her damn elbow pit! I know it was meant to be a distraction but at least but the BP cuff on the proper way!
Sorry- as a mom of a kid with a Congenital Heart Defect who spends my life worrying about and taking his blood pressure that scene just grated!

Me too, and it was such an easy fix. Sigh.

I kept waiting for someone to give the twin gift basket to Charmaine.

The “my boys” thing was irritating.

I'm pulling up a chair beside you to snark.  I can see Mel either cutting back or taking a short leave due to it being a high risk pregnancy but because the other doctor hit on her? Comeon, are we 12?  Mel must have been hit on by a doctor at the hospital where she worked before she came to Virgin River. Did she quit? Don't think so.

I don't know if it was in this episode or later, but they say it's been 5 months.  Hope complains that Mel still owes her 7 months under her year-long contract.

The timing on this show is the ABSOLUTE WORST!!!  It's my #1 with a * complaint!!

Love the scenery!  I'll be right there with you.

5 months makes it even worse!!

The timing makes my head hurt! How long has it been? 5 months, 9 months, a year?  And how much has happened? births, deaths, shooting, imprisonment, a wedding, pregnancies, accidental killing, a year anniversary of the death of Mel's husband, Mel's sister-in-law visiting demanding the engagement ring, Jack's sister showing up, drug rings, Jack's PTSD, Jack drinking, house fire, long lost grandson, and, and, and, and....... My head hurts....

And, and, and……. Mel's sister got divorced, Mel got engaged, Lilly had postpartum depression, Mel & Jack broke up and got back together....

AND all in the space of five months.  That's a major festival per month complete with elaborate decorations and costumes.

Are they changing writers for every season?  Does each season have a requisite number of crises and celebrations?

It is ridiculous.

Are we going to have 5 seasons of Mel being pregnant?  I don't know for sure but my guess is

  Reveal spoiler

Mel will tragically have a miscarriage.

Since we progress about a month for each season, she won't deliver until Jack is in a nursing home.

Don't forget that Hope had a heart attack in the first season, too.  So a heart attack and a traumatic brain injury all in 5 months... and she's perfectly fine now!  If only that happened in real life!!

I was glad to see that there was a new season. I decided to try to refresh my (bad) memory by watching the last ep of the previous season. Not sure how much that helped.

I guess I'm hate-watching this. The scenery is the best part.

Like others here, I don't get why Mel is so put out with that other doctor.

Frankly, I was glad to see Paige and Christopher leave.
