That super rare thing of a guy having two sets of DNA because of a bone marrow transplant was done a few months ago on All Rise. They even had a similar set up of the person being accused of a crime because of the DNA they found on the scene. I guess they figured they've stolen ideas from all the doctor shows they needed to move on to lawyer shows?

This episode didn't really hold my interest like it normally does.

The justification for the US being the only one of the 25 richest countries in the world not to have universal health care is that the US has treatments no one else does, but I'm pretty sure the UK and other first world countries have those kidney stone busting machines.

Yeah, no surprise that the new Governor is a low down dirty villain.

AJ picks out baby carriages based on the colour he thinks is cool rather than thinking about the development of the babies? He deserves Padma.

Nice of them to give Billie a worthy guy while she's lost Conrad to Cade.

British couple should have went home the second she wasn't feeling well, why stay? Also how about travel insurance?

Evil Governor and a shady spy, that spy can go anytime. He should be first casualty of the Governors funding cuts.

Billie's so boring, she was so much more interesting a character when she and Conrad hated each other. I rather he be with Cade, she at least is more interesting.

And/or the fact that this is a country where people idolize rich people as if they are better humans, so everyone only wants money and are also ignorant to the fact that they are dreaming an impossible dream, while depleting themselves to pay for things that no human should need to pay for.

I am willing to bet that if the Cuban embargo were lifted, they would have better outcomes than the US. They already have better outcomes as it is , without the technology they lack because they cannot trade anything with most of the world.

The recycled story lines

The chimera - I can't believe this is a coincidence - that two shows came up with this incredibly rare occurrence. Not just that someone had this but that a conviction rested on the DNA. Perhaps the medical consultant for both show read a theoretical article in a medical journal

Also was it last season when Bell's background was going to be potentially weaponized when he attempted to actually get the Medical Standards Committee to take action? Isn't there any other aspect of the place that could be demonized

Congrats to Malcolm-Jamal Warner for his directorial debut!

Really not interested in Governor Betz’s drama and hospital’s funding storylines. It felt recycled. KitBell has enjoyed too much happiness lately, so it’s pain time! Risky move by the governor to recruit a rookie mole. He will get better results via professional PI.

It’s good to see Ian Anthony Dale on my screen again but his character is only here to stir up the most boring love triangle in Chastain. What makes him so interested in boring Billie?

It is not recycled from TV land. It is a real thing that happened, the governor is supposed to be Rick Scott, Florida's former governor, current Senator. He actually did what Bell accused the show's governor of doing.

Why are writers so lazy, and why are directors, producers, set designers uninterested in details?

Death roll is not general population. They stay in closed cells 23 hours a day, they are not really allowed to socialize. I am pretty sure that in Georgia things are way worse.

Not sure why they had to throw that correctional officer in there as if they make friends with prisoners.

Devon, when the technology creates such amazing medical devices that do such awesome things for the benefit of medicine, very few will actually benefit from it. Just look at the rate of denial of everything one might need to save their lives.

The idea that Bell and the other doctors discussing the case and why the woman died is absolutely not enough for a lawsuit. First, hospitals settle suits, that's why they have insurance. Second, they need to have history, notes, and anyone who reads that case will see that they did, as presented to us, everything right. Over 5000 people die in this country due to medical malpractice every month. #rd leading cause of death. To pretend that Bell will be taken down because he was sad he didn't catch the problem earlier is ridiculous.

Why do we have to watch the high school sweetheart drama among ass old people?

The one good thing in the episode was what we didn't see - Padma.

I know! Bell saying "I should have caught it even though her other symptoms masked it" is not nearly enough to get Bell into trouble and if that spy is a real surgical tech, he should know it. Especially given how long the couple had delayed getting medical attention because they were afraid of the cost which any good lawyer would point out.

Ironically, at the same time this episode was on, another station was showing a TED-type talk by Andre Picard, a foremost medical reporter talking about research into health and treatment. He said that good health is 15% medicine and medical treatment, 15% good genes, and the rest is socio-economic status.  It's seems cray to put all your money into the 15% basket and ignore the 70% one.

This whole episode made me think of the Scrubs episode where it is "A doctor spends, on average, 15 seconds with a patient" where it had a timer in the corner. This episode felt like they were doing something similar - since they could've caught things earlier.

Also, uh, surgery spy - I doubt whatever you did at college is as bad as HIPAA violations.

It's totally going to be a good look for the governor to finance a lawsuit (probably through shell corporations) against a hospital in his state.

Yeah, I think every first world country has the vibrate the kidney stones to death machine.

I thought AJ was picking baby carriage based on configuration? Row of babies versus column?

tbh when we saw the new doctor I thought he was going to end up being a spy for the Governor.

Not sure why The Resident is being so overtly political this season but it's a little annoying. First of all, the actor playing the newly elected governor looks just like their current governor, but he's not newly elected, he was just re-elected. Second of all, that Medicare fraud issue seems to be mirroring Rick Scott, the former governor of Florida but current Florida senator. And when they mentioned that public hospitals should just bill Medicaid, why did no one mention that Georgia is one of the states that refused to expand Medicaid under the ACA and likely many of patients that come through their ER and hospital wouldn't be on it if they had no health insurance?

I'm glad that the show is finally showing Billie going out and having fun WITHOUT Conrad drama or the drama with her son. She's a beautiful and successful woman, surely there would be plenty of men who would be interested in her. I like Ian Anthony Dale, and he's perfect as a charming doctor, but it was a little surprising that there was no real intro to his character.

Honestly, my first thought with the governor was "weird looking Bill Clinton crossed with Brian Kemp"

Yup - they should've mentioned that GA didn't expand the ACA if they want to really drive the point home! That is pretty much a copy-paste of Rick Scott with his medicare fraud. Although I think Rick Scott didn't fund his own campaign.
