Be My Guest: Ina Interviews The Stars

I usually hate the fawning over each other that goes on on this version of the show, but I really enjoyed the Flay episode. I was sad to hear about Nacho, who was a beautiful cat. RIP. I didn't think Bobby needed to cook anything complicated, since for everyone who knows him, he has nothing to prove when it comes to his bona fides. Sometimes all you want is something quick and delicious. Gave them more time to talk.

I get that he's a bit of a cad, but he reminds me so much of the NY boys I grew up with that I can't help loving him.

He's a terrible husband (boyfriend, too, probably), but he has a great relationship with his daughter and a lifelong love of cats, and now that age has mellowed some of the cockiness, there's a good sense of humor there, too, so I enjoyed hearing his stories.  I still find Ina awkward as hell as an "interviewer", but this was one of the few episodes of this series that worked for me because of the guest.

I couldn't sleep last night, figured this show had a 50/50 chance of boring me to sleep or annoying me into being even more awake, and gave it a shot.  I was mostly bored, but the one with Stephen Colbert and Evie McGee Colbert was okay, because the two of them are kind of fun to watch interact.  I cringed in advance at the final sit-down with Jeffrey joining them, but Ina turned out not to be disgustingly fawning around him like she usually is.

The one I thought was pretty good was with an author I'd never heard of, Ann Patchett (almost everything I read is non-fiction, so there are a shit ton of novelists I've never heard of) -- right away, I liked them bonding over never wanting kids, and being strong in not doing what they were "supposed" to do, but what they wanted to do.  Patchett was engaging, and happy to be there yet not toadying.  I'm glad I didn't skip it due to not knowing who she was.

The Colberts and Anne Patchett were fun. My husband has read several of Anne's books and said they are good. I enjoyed the episode with Wendell Pierce too.

I don't know if anyone remembers, but back in the TWoP days someone posted not nice/crazy things about Ina, blasting her for not having children, since she and Jeffrey were so rich it was their responsibility to have kids, and other nutty things. Posters, including me, were defending Ina, pointing out to the poster how off they were. I got a warning from the mods for my response - only one I ever got.

OMG - I do remember that! You got warned for that comment? Can’t say I am surprised.

I do remember that!  I also remember the snark about how Ina was a recluse, clearly uncomfortable outside of her Hampton circle of friends, and that she needed to get to a psychiatrist or she would implode.

The Ann Patchett episode is my favorite of this season's shows.  Northing over the top, just two like-minded women cooking and chatting together.
