I want a transcript of Boimler’s berserk rant! And loved the use of The Doomsday Machine-ish music during the rant.

And even a callout to one of the only good first season eps of TNG (and one that was never followed up on).

And it was mind-control *spores*, not pollen.

The Rutherford backstory was pretty interesting. I wonder who the illicit scientists will turn out to be. And if they are controlled by bugs :)

A mindscape episode I didn’t hate!

I loved the recruitment fair. In TNG we always being told that Starfleet is super hard to get into with studying and entrance exams and such. The truth is that that Stafleet is needier for recruits than we were led to believe.

I'm surprised they didn't go with an obvious joke and have Boims comment about how much more space there is in the brig compared to his bunk.

One of the groups at the fair that got both barrels from Boimler was that species from the much-hated first season episode Move Along Home. Allamaraine that, jerkweeds!

Props to Tendi for figuring out Rutherford was possessed immediately.

The shot near the end with Mariner looking out the back window as the ship went to warp was a nice effect.

Suggest we call old Rutherford “Otherford.”

It’s interesting to see that Mike McMahan was the writer on this, given how lore heavy it was.  It makes me wonder how important the implant, and the group behind it, are going to be going forward. I definitely recognized Phil Lamarr as one of the voices - however it sounded more like a generic character than Admiral Freeman.  I’m a little dismayed that we apparently have yet another “Red Squad” situation with a clandestine group inside Starfleet using cadets for some secret project.  Otherford was working on some kind of project - an engine? - before the accident.  What kind of engineering project requires a cabal?

Mariner and Boimler at the job fair were really fun.  Loved the callback of the crystal alien being super into dilithium.  The whole thing felt like a spiritual successor to the bar scene from Tribbles - with Boimler as Scotty, playing it cool until the one button he cares about gets pressed.  Agreed that we need a transcript of his rant- I loved his righteous indignation for all the good stuff Starfleet/ our crews have done.

The archaeologist feels like another new plot thread- would not be surprised to see her return.  Definitely feels like a temptation for Mariner.  She seems to represent a lot of what Beckett aspires to.  But given how manipulative she seemed during the fair, it’s easy to question her motives.
