Tonight March 3rd, Bull helps defend a soldier charged with murder of his best friend, claiming a defense due to PTSD.  Events turn up to not be as they appeared.  I liked seeing Lou Diamond Phillips.  He plays an Army psychiatrist.

Marissa seems to have found love.  I guess they’re  setting things up to end on a happy note.

It seems so cliche for people on tv to try to take responsibility for killing someone to spare their reputation from suicide.  So people really do that?  I mean besides on tv.

Probably not so much. You’d have to be in a very dark place yourself, hopeless, to give up what’s left of your life to protect a reputation or even loved ones’ feelings. Besides, one way or another, the truth will eventually come out. Very sad episode. The accused gets a less than honorable discharge, and I don’t suppose the wife will be getting any benefits either.

Not being military myself, so I wouldn't know, but I would assume that Lou D Phillips character received a commission as an officer because he was a psychiatrist.  Yet he had some jump wings on his uniform.  Somehow, the idea of a psychiatrist going through parachute training seems just a little humorous to me.

I'm not a member of the military nor do I come from a military background, so if I get this wrong, someone can feel free to correct me. It's possible he went to college through veteran's benefits, and trained as a psychiatrist. I don't know if this is actually possible.

Or he could have gotten through Officer's Candidate School, let's say with his Bachelor's degree, gone through parachute training early in his career, and eventually gotten further training. Never a member of the military, either.

You forgot to say if you were or ever had been in the military. 😏

My husband is retired Army so I asked him to take a look at Lou's uniform.  With the caveat that it's a little hard to make it all out on the screen, here's what my husband was able to ascertain:

First, the good news...his uniform did not contain entirely random decorations.  They did correctly show that he is in the Medical Corps on his lapels.  However, the medical corps color (sort of crimson/maroon) does not appear to be in 3 places where it should have been: shoulder boards, hat band, right sleeve cuff area.  The gold leafy-looking things on his hat indicate a rank of major or higher, but my husband couldn't see the specifics of the bars on his shoulder to see if they match.

Major mistake for him to have that blue cord on his right shoulder....it's for current infantrymen.  Also, the order that the ribbons on the left breast are supposed to be in, is from most important in upper left, to least in lower right.  But for his first row to be all in the blue/white/gold family, and the second row to have several in the red family, indicates that either they mistakenly put the lower-importance blue/white/gold ones on top, or that he has achieved the very, very high blue/white/gold ones that would only be characteristic for someone of far higher importance than him.  Also, the three short gold bars above his right cuff indicate three tours (6 months each) overseas in a theater of war, which would make him a genuine combat veteran, but his lack of corresponding awards does not seem commensurate with that.

And Dowel Jones is correct about there being airborne (jump) wings.  They indicate a basic parachutist (not senior).  There is also the insignia on his lower right breast of the 101st Airborne, indicating that he served in an overseas combat theater.  The three ribbons on his right upper breast are unit awards, which mean that the 101st would have won those three all during the time of his three tours, which is a bit of a stretch.

As for our main conundrum, about him having been wartime airborne and now a psychiatrist, according to my husband, it is theoretically possible but very unlikely.  It is even more unlikely that that as a psychiatrist, he was assigned to the 101st itself rather than to a medical unit supporting the 101st.
