Calvin and Dave are both chosen to serve as jurors on the same trial. Also, Malcolm and Marty get a big surprise when they fail to ask what the movie's about after they rent out their house for a film shoot.

I'm pretty sure that 2 jurors who keep leaping up with interjections would have been thrown off the jury and charged with contempt of court. And, really?  She's innocent because nobody saw her put the stolen merchandise in her purse and anyone could have planted it?  Who?  Who?  I find the fact that she owns an expensive item less compelling than that there was stolen merchandise in her bag.

For being so smart, they are dumb.  As soon as they said they weren’t allowed in the house while the “indie film” was being shot, even I knew what kind of film it was!

Yeah, I was like “oh, that’s porn.” Poor Marty.

Would they let two jurors who know each other on the same jury?

I was wondering that, too. So, I looked it up. There was a mother and son on the same jury about 10 years ago in Florida.  I don't know if they lived together or not. So, there's no official rule, but I think they would in general not want that, at least if they knew each other well, because that would lend itself more to discussing the case outside of the jury room.  2 people who went to high school together and hadn't seen each other for 10 years probably wouldn't pose much of a problem.

Also, since there was a news story about the mother and son, that must mean it's pretty rare.  You don't write news stories on every day mundane occurrences.

Yeah, I could see letting neighbors do it - I don’t know my neighbors well enough that there’s a risk that we’d be discussing the case, but neighbors who are also best friends? That seems much less likely.

How old are Malcolm and Marty supposed to be?  I have always assumed that Marty has an advanced degree in something “sciencey” given that he works at the JPL, so he may be 27 - 28 and Malcolm in his early 30’s.

Marty is cute, smart, nice, polite, has a good job, and his hobbies/interests aren’t that geeky/nerdy.  (It isn’t like he is walking around in a Yoda costume.)  He should have plenty of dating opportunities.  Of course, I am his mother’s age, so maybe I am out of touch with what today’s young women are looking for.  In my day he would have been quite a catch.

Marty attending one [insert geeky hobby] convention should get Marty enough nerdy girl phone numbers to find himself a girlfriend, especially if he attends that convention in Los Angeles.

I have watched this show since it began.  I know covid has wreaked havoc with audiences, and I don't even know if they ever filmed before a live audience.  That said, I cannot believe how intrusive, loud, and ridiculous the laugh track has become.  Maybe this weak episode made it more blatant and obvious.  It was almost bad enough that I considered shutting it off.

The first batch of episodes from this season were borderline serious topics.  Maybe they needed a *throwback* dose of fake hilarity.
