As always, watch, then post.  Stick to topics discussed on the show.  No personal politics.

Bill begins this week's show interviewing Amy Klobuchar, the senior U.S. Senator from Minnesota. On the panel, he's joined by Glenn Loury, professor of economics at Brown University, and Michael Eric Dyson, professor at Vanderbilt University.

Original air date 2021.11.05

-Well I am glad we have the vaccines and for their role in getting the country back to normal even if Bill isn't.

-This was the most I've liked Dyson in any appearance I can remember (and probably the most subdued and un-preachy he's ever come across)

-Bill actually didn't interrupt much and it was smart to let black folks with lived experiences do the talking on race issues

-I wish someone would have pointed out all of the police misconduct coming to light out of places like Oklahoma and Louisiana recently.  Or pointed out the "Constitutional Sheriff" movement which is predominantly white police officers deciding they will only enforce the laws they want to and in the ways they see fit.  Dangerous times and so many bad apples.

New Rules or Boomer strikes back at Millenials and Gen Z.

Is he wrong that these younger generations, who’ve blamed Boomers for ruining the planet, aspire to the same wasteful consumption which has destroyed the environment?

Just saw a headline that crypto currency mining uses about .6% of the electricity generated in the world or about the amount used by New Zealand.  Here’s another article which compares the energy used by Bitcoin mining.

https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2021/09/03/climate/bitcoin-carbon-footprint-electricity.html

The figure that 94% of bitcoins (or was it all crypto currencies) are bought by Millenials and Gen Z is astounding.  First of all, these young generations are suppose to have less money.  Or they complain that Boomers took all the money yet they’re putting money into something so speculative?

Crypto seems like a get-rich scheme with the bubble about to pop.

Meanwhile it’s likely that most of the 279 million who follow Kylie Jenner on IG are young people.  Presumably enough people buy the products she shills for on her IG feed or else she wouldn’t be making all that money just showing them off.

In political polling, the younger generations support progressive, socialist and sustainable policies.  But even though they are now the largest electoral cohorts, they punch below their weight in elections — lower turnout percentages than older generations.

By the time they vote more frequently, they may no longer be as progressive, especially if they’ve embraced the same wasteful lifestyles that they’ve accused Boomers of living.

I wish Klobuchar was more of a national voice.

We're not a center right country. Most votes cast nationally are for democrats. The VA candidate just wasn't good and ran a bad campaign. That's it.

I generally agree with Bill, but I've been clear that he doesn't know anything about colleges. I'm glad the panel just shut him down.

WTF. He doesn't think kids should be vaccinated, and he doesn't think people should get booster shots? You know, I suspect Bill is perfectly happy to let Covid "thin out the herd" since people who get it are all fat anyway, right? And I cannot imagine what "normal life" he is prevented from living and complains about every week. I imagine it's put a crimp in his income because he can't do big, live shows anymore, but it's not as if he's hurting for money. Poor you, Bill.

Sometimes I wonder why I still watch this show. Bill is so uninformed and, once again, is carrying the water for right-wing propaganda. I'm spoiled, because I listen to Pod Save America, so I have the advantage of just having listened to actual campaign experts break down the election losses point by point. There were myriad, compounded reasons for the way they turned out on Tuesday, and you can't just boil it down to any one thing. But of course Bill wants to make it all about wokeness because that's his big issue. Never mind nuance or exit polls, whatever he can grab hold of and prop up his pet peeve with, that's it.

I don't think enough people have a practical use for it, let alone the younger generation. How many people have to move money around the globe? It seems designed for criminal activity. I don't know where Bill got this idea it's a "younger generation" thing.

It isn't nearly unhackable imo either. Also I laugh like crazy when I think about the thieves that just stole the servers that the bitcoin was on.

None of the young people I know have bitcoin. Because they have actual jobs and bills.

I don't knew if the bubble will pop, but with large baseload being decommissioned, no utility company is building a wind farm for bit coin. Because the people paying the electric bill have jobs and want to come home to their house or apartment and turn on the lights. Or cook in the oven.

I don't think he actually does big shows. The venues he lists on the outro are huge places. I think he always liked just working the club circuit. Since he's vaccinated, he can book gigs, but I don't get why the booster is a deal for him.

Yes, it's a huge factor into ransomware. They lock you out of your computer and demand bitcoin in response. To be fair, it is more of a younger thing.

I enjoyed this show….I liked having differing views on things. It was refreshing to hear a case against CRT without the usual “woke” righteousness of acting horrified.

Klobuchar is a politician with the required skill of dancing around the tough questions. But, she’s likable enough.

Yes, anti-racists do tend to make discussions of how anti-racism is bad less refreshing. It's kind of their thing.

There are so many negatives in that sentence I’m not sure what you said. 😀. I thought everyone there was clearly anti-racist.

Well Bill, Kim's 297 million followers don't necessarily also have to be the same 30 million that follow Greta.  its probably not.  also, that 297 million is world wide, so there are probably a lot of followers that just like to live vicariously.  its why those 80s prime time soaps all focused on the fabulously wealthy and not ordinary schmos.  because we all fantasize about being rich.  doesn't mean we don't care about the planet.
