I’m tired of people using the race card to say their view is of course the only view. Bill, I am disappointed to watch you doing just that. I don’t think the college kids, or anyone else, who thinks we should not be supporting Israel are fueled by racism or anti-semitism. C’mon. -

Regarding the phone thing….my oldest was 13 in 2010. We gave her her first phone in 2007, making her 10. And while we didn’t buy the latest and greatest, we also didn’t give her hand me downs. We were not in the minority by any means. I have a memory of phones with cameras not being allowed in classrooms. I am sure that rule has gone out the window. I also remember MySpace, where the kids would message each other, and even then it was used to spread gossip and negativity. I do not envy these kids growing up with all this technology. Bill mentioned kids being disrespectful to their parents. I think that exists only on TV and movies. I agree with him in that I don’t know why that is becoming the norm even on that medium. It’s annoying to say the least. -

So Bill thinks the people disagreeing with his view of the war in Gaza/Israel should be silenced? And he uses absurd examples to justify this silencing? And he wants everyone who disagrees with him identified? Wow. He must be so right. -
Just started, but I’m not getting Christian as Selena. Where’s J Lo when you need her? but what a sad, sad wasteful ending to her life.

I live in Florida and did during the Covid days. When so many were saying it’s a shitshow in Florida, Florida is hiding numbers (they must be, everyone there is not dead), it was in reality no different than in any other state, except we had less rules. IMO, Trump has no chance in hell of getting elected. Absolutely None. DeSantis’s chances have been effectively wiped out by the media and then his own missteps with Disney and abortion. I did like DeSantis bringing up how accusing Trump of colluding with Russia to influence an election is on par with every other election where the losing side cries, “It was rigged!” Maybe I need a new TV, but I couldn’t understand a word Ham was saying. I gave up rewinding to hear it over. I think Bill is very relevant. He is the voice of the many, many (some former) Democrats who got disillusioned with the party the past couple of elections. No, I will continue to watch. -

That may not be true. The South lagged behind the North, which did not have slavery. The North opted for Industrialism, which was more effective and better all around than slavery. That’s why the South lost the Civil War…it just wasn’t as advanced and never could be, because slavery is wrong on many, many levels. -

I missed this show when it was on. Perel was very interesting. I did not find that panel boring at all. I thought Bill was almost afraid to ask the questions he was asking because of the current political climate, but I’m glad he did. I thought they both gave interesting perspectives on the issues. I thought their insights on the media were spot on. The media is everywhere, and understanding the motives of the media is interesting to me. -

Good show. Elon Musk is real and his views were interesting for me. I love how he comfortably said he ignores the haters on Twitter. I would be more like Bill and have to get off it. I thought the panel was very good and everyone spoke earnestly, very refreshing after the people who just repeat talking points. Very good show. -

Noa is full of shit. I raised my family in Rockland County, NY, and every Jewish person announced they were Jewish within 5 minutes of meeting them. And that was over 30 years ago. No one was ashamed of who they were, whether it be Jewish or anything else. I could not agree more with Andrew Yang in that we need a viable third party in this country, Elissa’s opinion on that — that she’s afraid we would be turning the country over to, I can’t even describe what she was saying, is absurd. The Dems and Repubs are destroying this country. 😀 -

Agree wholeheartedly. John Wayne, Charleston Heston, Bob Hope were old relics in the early 70’s. Nixon may have been using a bully pulpit, but there was no Internet, no cesspool of ignorance that is Twitter, no mass viralness that exists today. Marlon Brando’s standing up for Indians and how they were portrayed in the movies was accepted for what is was worth back then. -
S21.E06: Bernie Sanders; John Heilemann; Russell Brand
Tara replied to tessaray's topic in Real Time With Bill Maher
This I will agree with wholeheartedly. Polls, in general, are usually nothing more than “ torture numbers long enough and they will admit to anything.” This poll, in particular, seems to be even more meaningless than most. This isn’t money they are “getting”, it’s money they are not paying. So the responses would seem to be more wistful dreaming. I think this is exactly what Brand was saying, that the news is bought and paid for, and presented with ulterior motives. I miss the days when CNN was a trusted news source. They all learned from Fox that inciting people delivers ratings, which delivers money. Too bad. MSNBC is no better. The news outlets learned, before Covid taught a lot of us, that people will believe what they want to believe. The news outlets capitalize on that. -
S021.E05: Christoph Waltz; Ari Melber; Sarah Isgur
Tara replied to tessaray's topic in Real Time With Bill Maher
Funny, I thought just the opposite. Ari just kept bringing everything back to Trumpism, and how great and honest MSNBC is, not really in the conversation, but just putting out talking points. I thought Sarah was spot on saying the news stations are about making money, and the business model is no longer advertising, but catering to one side or the other. Absolutely spot on. Waffle House. My husband always would want to get breakfast there while we were traveling over the years. I always said I’m not eating in one of those hideous-looking boxes of a restaurant. One day, after dropping off someone at the airport for an early morning flight, I was starving and gave in, as it was the only thing open. I LOVED my eggs, hash browns, cinnamon toast, and bacon. Cooked just the way I like it. Color me surprised as hell. -

Wait a minute. Bill is half-Jewish, half-Catholic? I have heard him ridicule the Catholic religion over and over. I have never heard him ridicule the Jewish religion. Does he believe in it? Just wondering.
