As hundreds of dolphins lead the Summer Bay into an approaching cyclone, Jake attempts a daring nighttime rescue in high seas. Scott Campbell Jr. finds himself out of options, leaving Sig to make a controversial call to save the fishery.

Am I stupid or why couldn't the wife just go and take care of the kid? And if all these boats are parked why couldn't someone step in and captain the boat? Am I just being stupid or what?

Thank you. We thought the same thing. If his wife is on good terms with the daughter, let her to help and let Junior go make money. How will him not running the boat help?  The expression of the wife in the galley when junior was telling his crew he wasn't going to fish was... Interesting... Odd... Also, get Harley off my screen. I hate that guy. Every time he comes on the screen, my husband yells "SHITBAG!!" at him.

Gee, I was wondering why Captain Wonderful (Josh Harris) couldn't have just met them at the pier and taken the Alaska Lady out to catch Junior's quota for him.  It would have been the first useful thing he's done since the old man died.

My first thought, too, was that Lisa could have gone to help their daughter so Scott could keep working.  It's a situation that a lot of parents find themselves in, making that tough choice.  On one hand, there is a need for the crabbing industry to keep going - for this year and future years, from the way they're talking about it on the show.  And there are five or six crewmen who had to go through quarantine, leave their families in the middle of a pandemic, and then head out on the boat - only to find they are not going to have an opportunity for a bigger payday.  But, then, as a parent of a child (even an adult child) with a serious illness . . . it would be hard to choose to go to work and then have to live with a lot of guilt and other emotions if they weren't "there" if something horrible happened.

I was looking for an update on Stormee and found out something kind of interesting.  Scott and Lisa have been married to each other three times and divorced from each other twice.

I also looked Scott up and saw that that was indeed her child and they had been off and on for years. I still don't understand why she couldn't go and still handle the books,  etc while taking care of the daughter. I understand he wants to be there for his daughter but as the sole provider for his entire family I would think he would need to have money coming in.

Pretty sure most of his crew are in that same position, but the needs of their families apparently don't matter.

We weren't told what precisely was going on, but based on his reaction, it sounds like something that they thought would get worse "eventually" had taken a serious turn and was happening now.  It didn't seem like she was just going in for a procedure and needed somebody to care for the child while she was away and recuperating, in which case the wife going and coming back when things were more settled would make sense. It sounded like if they didn't go, they might not see her again.  Obviously he wasn't willing to take that chance.

I thought of Josh, but seriously - who would trust him with a boat?  (Hell, go full circle and bring back Elliott!)

I assume there are more experienced captains out there that might take the gig, depending on what kind of learning curve that particular vessel might have (I think they've said in the past that some are really finicky and can't just be driven off the dock by someone unfamiliar with them). 

Did he instruct the crew to close up shop and he'd book them tickets home? Did he assign someone to take the boat back to wherever they keep it when not fishing?  Or did he just tell them to stay put and await further instructions as he lines something up/evaluates the situation at home and maybe comes back in 10 days?

Would really be interesting if he got somebody, but they wouldn't do the tv show, so the show is pretending he just ended the season.

They've shown Scott to be a bit of an a**hole these past two seasons.  I wonder whether (1) he would not accept anyone else to pilot the boat, or (2) he's burned bridges with so many captains that he couldn't get anyone willing to help him out.

And PLEASE . . . NEVER SHOW ELLIOTT ON THIS - OR ANY OTHER - TV SHOW EVER AGAIN FOR THE ENTIRE REMAINING EXISTENCE OF THE PLANET EARTH.

Maybe brother Hillstrand can be better by then from his covid? Or They have Josh and Mandy sitting as dual captains, put them together on it. But, do NOT bring in that Harley dick!!!! I too was thinking he should have stayed while the wife went home to care for the daughter. I had to look Junior up because I expected the lady on the phone to say she was his sister, not daughter. Thought Junior and his wife would have little kids. Though he is my age (I am year older) and I have 24 and 22 year olds. But he must have been 21 when he had this daughter and his wife must have been 18-19 because she looks quite a bit younger. And what could be wrong with the 25 year old daughter that would be as bad as was presented? I googled to see if she was okay now but can't find anything on her.

Excepting the daughter being sick deal, this was old school DC.  Plenty of drama based on fishing.  I'm sure Disco manipulated Jake's story.  He was going in either a little short or he would fill.  We're not talking about tens of thousands of dollars, here.  

Where is the baby daddy and/or his parents (paternal grandparents)?  I agree it was ridiculous that Lisa did not make it instantly clear she was going home.  There was no issue of the daughter and granddaughter being left alone.  Junior can get as sad/distraught as he likes.  But, his daughter would be well cared for without him.  My guess is Lisa did make that call very quickly.  If not?  Cruella lives.

My choice for relief captain was Mandy.  Of course, that's assuming she has a captain's license.  Disco has been quite vague about her certifications and licensing.  For good reason, I'd bet.

One very off-note in this ep was the staged call from JH to Sig notifying him of Junior's dilemma.  Who was sitting right there?  The STAR!  Josh.  Wretch.  I make no ill judgment as to the sentiments of any of the cast or the fleet.  Monsters, they are not.  Disco drumming up draaaaama and/or virtue signaling on behalf of the cast was coarse, to say the least.  Why was a replacement left to Sig anyway?  When?  Why didn't we see those discussions?! 

The porpoise escort for Bill and the boys was very cool.  I really enjoyed the dolphin/whale watch excursions I've experienced.  Being amidst a large school who are swimming fast is a real wonder and joy.  

Two really cool edit effects that stood out to me:  The first was the cam attached to the Saga hook which hit the water and grabbed the rope at night, but was raised up into daylight seamlessly.   The other was the takeoff of the plane into a rising and large moon.  Neat stuff.

Didn't Mandy attended the Maritime Academy?  I am sure they have talked about it and at one time, there was a picture of her in her uniform.  I think that she would have her Captain's license.   I know that she was barely a teenager when she was first shown on DC.  She tendered during the summer.  I may be remembering wrong., but when Edgar quit that year because of his back, Mandy was the one at the helm during tendering season.

Yes.  But, she changed her coursework/pursuit of a merchant certification into some other, never-defined path.  I am almost certain she did not stay as long as planned.  She has acted a relief captain for the NW, so she must have some minimum certs.  Is it a different deal to be a full captain of an F/V?  I have no idea.  If it isn't, she really should have subbed for Junior.

Pretty sure she captains during salmon fishing.   

But boy did you catch her playing to the cameras.   She pops into the frame and looks dead at the camera like "am I in the right place now?"   It's right when Sig is first talking about Junior.   Which the timing on this was REALLY weird.   Junior would be talking about his daughter in broad daylight, then they would cut to one of the other captains talking about it and it was dead dark out.    I mean I guess if it was daylight at Dutch, someone fishing more than 12 hours away would be night time but it seems ODD.

My interpretation was that they were afraid she could be dying. Obviously her heart condition had gone from "something we're concerned could be bad down the line" to "I've gotten worse in the last week, I can't take care of my kid, I need you." Maybe he gets home, gets the full scoop from the doctors. she stabilizes and he comes back. Didn't seem like he closed things down, but just put everything on hold.

Not sure about Mandy's captain status, but with so many captains in the fleet with decades of experience, I can't see anybody entrusting a multimillion dollar operation to a novice. It surprised me that Jake got his opportunity when he did, but of course that boat was a wreck.

I know a lot of the fleet wasn't out there, but was that because the captains wouldn't go out, or the boat owners made different risk calculations? I can see a captain who couldn't get deckhands because they were afraid and wanted to stay home with their families being willing to come up and work. Especially one already based in Alaska who wouldn't necessarily face the same travel restrictions. 

For pure humor, it would have been funny if MONTE took the job. Can you imagine Keith's reaction?

I guess they had to go through 2 weeks of quarantine so there was no risk of anyone getting sick while out at sea.   Because in the middle of the Bering Sea I am betting there's no way to intubate someone.   Maybe no one was available that had the 2 week quarantine.   Or maybe it was all Disco drama and a relief captain was available.
