A lot of action scenes and running around islands this season, it was crazy but I enjoy it. A lot of funny, one-liners, stupid (JJ's plans).  LOL

I was annoyed Big JB suddenly was alive when they had found his body before. After he started murdering people on the boat/jetski scene I figured he wasn't going to last, JB looked horrified and now his father and Ward were the same.  So both die in the same place and buried practically together fits.

Singh was a pretty good villan.

When Topper helped them with the train heist and Sarah was partying with him and her old friends, she was kissing him.  I did think that's where she should stay. I felt bad for Topper she used and lied to him over multiple episodes when he was being good to her. He deserved better from her.

Speaking of the train heist,  JJ made that jump off the bridge  with no scratch or hurt when the bike broke into pieces made no sense. lol

18 months is a big jump, would have liked to see at least a montage of all the buying with the gold. JB said he has a surf shop.  Shouldn't JB have had  warrant out for his arrest when they came back to OBX?  JJ bought a boat, Rafe is where?  What did Kie say to her parents when she first saw them again after what they did to her having her carted off like a criminal and locked up? The fact they are just sitting in front row clapping and cheering was ridiculous. Pope's parents sure, they supported it and let him go, but not her parents.

The show missed a lot they could have shown instead of a jump.

Did anyone notice in episode 10 that they used the handprint trick from the OG Roswell to open up the cave to El Dorado?  It was literally the same mechanism to open the cave as Max, Michael and Isabel used to open the pod chamber.

Now I’m wondering if any of the writers worked on Roswell too because the whole gang feels a lot like the pod squad. Even the couples are similar. The Romeo and Juliet star crossed lovers in Sarah and John B, to the very Michael & Maria dynamic to JJ and Kiara. Even Sarah’s ex feels like Kyle.

Anyway - really enjoyed this season. Even though I know the show isn’t actually filmed in OBX, it’s still fun to hear my hometown pop up in the dialogue. It’s still fun to pretend it’s the OBX even if it’s Charleston. But I can definitely tell it’s not the OBX.

I loved this season - JJ and Kie were so cute finally coming together. Sarah and John B had challenges and I still don’t know what “hooking up” fully entails (even that reeks of OG Roswell) but still happy how things landed.

Now Sarah just needs to fight her brother to get that gold back and to take over her dad’s business. And send Rafe to jail where he belongs.

So happy for JJ though. I wonder if they could find an expedition to go back to El Dorado and get the rest of the gold? They discovered it. 🤷🏽‍♀️ They know where it is still. I would think it’d be smarter to go back to get it all than be at risk of being held hostage to go back by others?

I love this ridiculous, bonkers show. It's so much fun. I like that all the characters got a chance to shine this season. I wish we had a little more time with them on the island.

Given that the last episode had an 18 month time jump, they all should be over 18 at this point so CPS wouldn't get involved. John B mentioned that he and Sarah owned a surf shop and JJ got a charter boat. Pope was going to college. I assume after they made it back from Venezuela they told whoever exactly where to find the gold. Maybe there was an excavation done. And I guess now they're just full on treasure hunters?? People are coming to them with pirate journals. Blackbeard?! I love it 😂 Basically the first three seasons were just a prequel to how the Pogues became the worlds best at finding lost treasure.

The show is ridiculous but it's fun to watch. I'd much rather watch this than something depressing. And it's really popular (according to Netflix, it was viewed more than 154 million hours in the first 4 days of season 3's release) so they're going to keep it going as long as they can. I think the creator said they have a 5 season plan.

I LOVE this show and am mad that Netflix didn’t surface it for me in the app. I had no idea it was out and just now watched it. I watched S&B before this because I didn’t see it was out. WTF Netflix?

Also - did they go back to excavate the rest of El Dorado? It’s unclear if all they got was the gold they had. I hope they did - but no way would. Surf shop, charter, etc be all they had. They’d have to be living full on kook in some massive houses there?

Being from this area of NC - my parents live like 40 mins from the beach - the concept of kooks and pogues is a totally real thing even if we don’t use those terms. The class divisions are so extreme. I didn’t grow up there and moved from a much larger urban city. The class distinctions are deep, real and enduring. People still exhibit the scars from them and the mindsets of them even after they go off to college and make something of themselves.

I always felt like Kiara in real life. Kinda trapped in between two worlds.

Have you ever taken the ferry from the Outer Banks to Chapel Hill?  :)

(I live in Chapel Hill, so that will never not be funny to me)

Unless there is a John A or John F, there is no need to say John B every 10 seconds.

Hahaha! My son and I were complaining about this. Does Sarah sigh, “Oh, John B….” when they’re intimate?

I'm going to admit I had a really hard time getting through this season, but I did like how they wrapped up the original incarnation of the show. Honestly, this could have worked as a series finale.

They should have cast the JJ actor as John B. They give us so many extreme close-ups of John B’s doughy, asymmetrical face. I know that I am being shallow.

I think he's hot but I do agree. JJ at least looks more believable as a teenager.

I'm glad the show finally killed off Ward. There was just nowhere else they could have taken the character. I was disappointed and felt let down that they made John A such a dick.

I really had to roll my eyes at Rafe being given a "good" female love interest. I like Drew Starkey though so I get why they're keeping Rafe around even though he's basically a serial killer. lol

I watched the first 2 eps of season 4 today. The whole first episode was boring as hell but it picked up in the second. The first season of this show was lightning in a bottle but every other season is just kinda meh.

Can someone remind me about Rafe's girlfriend. I have literally no recollection of her lol.

peach - so nice to see you here instead of the BB forum!

Agree about the first episode being slow and it picking up in the 2nd.  I watched 3 right after 2 Friday night but was busy with other stuff yesterday so I finished up 4 & 5 tonight.  I'm trying to piece together how the real estate developer is tied to the Blackbeard plot - got confirmation of what I suspected about the old recluse's daughter tonight and while it certainly blew JJ's mind, it did not blow mine, lol.

I'm pretty sure Rafe's GF is a new addition - and a not very bright one at that.  I was also very thrown in E5 when Rafe told her that Ward had been a Pogue himself.  Is that retcon?

Also, I hate hate hate that Netflix is doing this half-season release then waiting until next month to release the rest.  Just let me binge it as I like over the next week or two!

I don't remember if it was ever mentioned that Ward was a Pogue. As for Rafe's girlfriend, I thought she was a new character but then I looked her up on IMDB and it turns out that she was also in the last four episodes of season 3.

Before I started the new season I skimmed through here and saw someone talking about Rafe getting a 'good girl' girlfriend but I couldn't remember that at all and then she showed up this season and I was like who is this lol. I might skim through last season to try to remember her.

I feel like Ward being a Pogue has to be a retcon. I don't remember that at all and you'd think that would have been something that came up a lot more.

Same.  We've heard a lot about Kie's parents not being Kooks themselves and wanting a better life for their kids, etc.  Not once did I ever recall or get the vibe that Ward was anything other than a Kook his entire life.  In fact, the more I think about it, the more I feel very strongly that this is some ridiculous retcon to give Rafe an "outsider who is being screwed by the real Kooks" storyline this season, which does not fit with the show canon for the Cameron family at all.

They definitely never have had any idea what to really do with Rafe but that actor is probably the best one they got so they keep him. Which I don't hate because I do like the actor and I like Rafe usually but he's not really doing it for me so far this season. I'm interested though to see how it comes about that he's working with the core group like it appears in the promo.

She started showing up in drips and drabs last season when Rafe starts taking over the Cameron mansion and I was annoyed because I spent all this time thinking Rafe was secretly gay. As for Ward, it kind of is and isn't. They do start mentioning Ward having humble beginnings in either season 2 or season 3, but then in season 1 they mentioned Ward and the Camerons being legacies at a prestigious college. So I do think it was a retcon, but an early one.

Realistically this show should have killed off both Ward and Rafe. They eased back on Rafe being a sociopath who hears voices in his head telling him to do bad things (and he straight up just murdered a guy for his  ferry ticket) but yeah, they're now unsure what to write for him now.

I remember watching season 1 so fast, I could barely make it through this half season and it wasn't as binge worthy as season 1.

They're definitely retconning how bad Rafe was with his flashbacks of family during the beach day episode and his actually worried look his sister will be hurt.

The 6th episode is one of the stupidest episodes of TV I have ever watched. I loved it lol.

The CGI to make JJ's 2 dads look young in the flashback was sending me.

I also just accidentally got majorly spoiled and in doing so found out that apparently the JJ and Kie actors hate each other or something. I need to look into this more because I love that type of bts drama.

The JJ episode 6 while he destroyed the town was pretty good.

The last fifteen minutes of the finale I am not good with.  I knew something was coming and was hoping it wasn't him.

He deserved better more than anyone.

I had grown to be mostly annoyed by JJ so I don't really care but I find it hard to believe that was their plan all along. It's just wasn't good. Although, the show itself isn't good so. It's just a silly little show, it didn't need the death of a major character. But TPTB (and the cast) have always seemed to think the show is better than it actually is so I could see them thinking this was like some elite storytelling or something.

I had fun going down the rabbit hole of all the Madison Bailey/Rudy Pankow rumors today at least lol.

If you wanna go deep down the BTS rumors hole (and I suggest you do because it's fun lol), here's a twitter thread:

Not sure I'd call it fun as much as I'd call it obsessive stalker fandom at it's nutso best, lol.  I may have to revise my opinion of the actors' abilities though, if the fan-wanking that they hate each other is anywhere close to accurate, lol.

I just finished watching the 2nd half of the season and I'm shocked they killed off JJ - though I'm not necessarily upset at losing the character.  He was kind of played out if he wasn't going to really show any growth and just kept repeating the same, tragic mistakes.

I got through episode 8 but I was spoiled. I really, really didn't mind them killing off JJ because at this point it was ridiculous how much luck they had, but I think it was dumb to introduce the idea of JJ being from a family line that he's never going to get to explore. Honestly, I'm more upset at the idea of Sarah getting pregnant and never expressing the idea of maybe not having this baby. I'm still angry about Roe vs. Wade, and if there's anyone in a position to consider having an abortion, it'd be Sarah. The whole "hey, it will all work out in the end" is rich coming from a group of kids that are in no way, shape, or form ready to settle down into a family life. I get that they're not intending this to be a pro-life storyline but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth that neither Sarah nor Kiara even THOUGHT the word "abortion" here.

Of course the baby will be a little girl and they'll call her JJ. I can see it now. Blech.

I kept thinking this show regretted killing off Chip Esten so they were like, "What if we take Ward, but make him even more psycho and add the cold-bloodedness smartness of John B.'s dad?" Dude was so sketchy and skeevy the entire time that you never believed for a second he wasn't going to screw over the entire gang for helping him.

I just don't think JJ's paternity retcon added anything at all, especially since they just killed him off anyway.

I never really bought Kie and JJ as a romantic thing as Kie always read as "Lesbian" to me. That was before I even read that (no surprise) Madison was dating a woman. I haven't seen Madison in anything else so maybe she can pull off heterosexual vibes but she did not bring that to Kiara, especially in season 1. I was totally waiting for Kiara to admit to Sarah that she had a crush on her. LOL

In any event, Jonas Pate has a new show starting up on Amazon Prime starring William Lipton from General Hospital, this time about a band. I'm curious to see if that show will be more "normal" or if they will also think  they're starring in Breaking Bad.

Your last sentence made me literally lol. I hope for the latter tbh. I just get such a kick out of shows that are horrible but everyone involved thinks it's some top notch thing.

Meanwhile it's following the same trajectory of the OC, right down to killing off a beloved character right before the last season of the show. I enjoy it because the writing is so bad yet everyone is just all in, although I think Chase Stokes might be over it, as he's 32 playing a 19-year old. Lol I am surprised that it wasn't Rafe they killed off due to the fact that Drew Starkey is set to become an indie darling.
