  1. Not every single person in every single field is lazy. I mean, even Titanic managed to lose makeup and get snubbed for writing. But I find it doubtful that the quality of GoT just coincidentally flew up for those voting for Series, Writing, Directing, Casting, Picture Editing, and Stunt Coordination after years without wins in any of them.
  2. Well, the new voting system instituted last year makes voters lazier than ever. Many probably only watch like one contender and just vote for it, when in theory they're supposed to watch all the nominees in any category they vote for. It's how HBO was able to go from 3 major wins one year (across Comedy/Drama/Longform) to 14 the next.
  3. The sum total of network show wins while competing as a Comedy: SNL - Tina Fey & Amy Poehler Big Bang Theory - Editing Crazy Ex-Girlfriend - Choreography Editing Drama: N/A. CEG half of all network Comedy/Drama Creative Arts wins; amazing. No network Drama or Comedy got 2 wins last year. I *think* it's just the 2nd network show to start this decade to win 2 categories to-date, after...Mike & Molly.
  4. Ties for Choreography with America's Best Dance Crew. Cool to get a 2nd Emmy; weird that the two losses are the two with the center of the show and all.
  5. Editing is the 5th most important field so it's amazing that this show won despite being on The CW. I mean, look at the competition - Veep & Silicon Valley. In the last 20 years, all other single-camera editing winners (either comedy or drama) were major players with the main primetime Emmys. The only non-Series nominees being Pushing Daisies and My Name is Earl - both winners of Supporting Actress and Directing.
  6. The OC had big drops every season though. So did Gossip Girl (except S2), and it wasn't like they killed Serena.
  7. I read somewhere that in the books she's not adopted but rather was born through a surrogate.
  8. Yeah, maybe 8 other contestants' albums charted higher than hers (4 of them Blake country people) so you'd think she'd be one of the bigger ones now.
  9. To be fair, even as down as PLL is, it's still the network's only show that can reliably pull in a million+ live viewers. So the standards are quite low.
  10. As a queer Asian man who thus understands his situation, I think that article is perfect.
  11. If they cared that much about critics, The Wire wouldn't have only ever gotten nominated for Writing. Homicide Life on the Street would be a Drama Series nominee, as would The Shield (and also Buffy, but that goes back to the bias against the network). All multiple-time Program of the Year nominees with the TV Critics Association. I suspect Maslany's nom was more helped by the Screen Actors Guild Awards nom, since those are voted on by fellow actors. The only two Sag+Globe Drama or Comedy Actress nominees without an Emmy nom are: Lahti, for WB's Jack and Bobby; and Graham, for WB's Gilmore Girls.
  12. Congrats to Rachel. Looking more carefully, it appears that the show is tied for the 5th-most Emmy noms for a comedy this year with Master of None, Modern Family, and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. For her noms: Main Title Theme Music - The WB's Everwood got a nom here. UPN's Nowhere Man (?) got a nom, while Star Trek Voyager won though that did follow on the heels of previous Emmy-winning predecessors. Music and Lyrics - Only UPN's Gary and Mike (?) got a nom here. Which is total BS given how Buffy's musical is pretty much perfect, but whatever. So in theory the former is more likely.
  13. So you think the casting director for (some of) Season 4's new characters is Emmy-worthy, because of Tatiana Maslany? That makes less sense than your original post.
  14. They do, but incumbent (and possibly the next Best Actress Oscar winner) Viola Davis's choice seems more obviously so, especially given her fame for crying scenes. The Vulture recap for her episode There's My Baby includes "Viola Davis and Tom Verica need to win all the awards for this scene. Holy hell, they acted the mess out of this. So heartbreaking."
  15. Her Emmy submission is The Antisocialism of Sex. Taking from Wiki the Maslany parts: Sarah and Cosima come to terms with their input in the deal that led to Kendall’s death. Alison pushes forward with Gemma’s birthday party to maintain a sense of normality. Susan returns to the Island and informs Rachel of the creator of Neolutionism. Mrs. S disowns Sarah who begins to spin off the rails, drinking, partying and taking drugs. Sarah’s story starts to parallel Beth’s and she begins to hallucinate her. Evie...refus[es] to allow Rachel to take a position of importance within Neolution. Police interrupt the Hendrix slumber party and arrest Donnie on suspicion of narcotics trafficking. Duko then shows up and ominously says that he and Alison will be staying in touch. Sarah finds herself at the train station where Beth killed herself, conversing with her one last time. Cosima begins experimenting on herself by inserting Sarah’s bot in her own cheek as a desperate cure, as it is risk versus reward, suggesting that her death could help the clones learn about the disease. Felix talks her out of it, informing her that Krystal saw Delphine get carried away, alive, after she was shot. Felix then arrives at the train station, where Sarah contemplates jumping. He talks her out of it and she steps down, hugging and returning home. M.K. hacks Kira’s computer, who Kira calls the girl in the shadows. Rachel hallucinates something in her eye – a swan. On IMDB, voters rate it as the very worst ep of the season. Hmm, maybe she's a Viola Davis or Robin Wright fan and wants to help their chances?
  16. Eh, the competition is actually super weak in the opinion of the those obsessed with following awards. The only two nommed for major awards at the most recent ceremonies are Dinklage and Mendolsohn, though Voight was a Globe nominee the year before that (He's also weak enough to have been dropped last year.). Several think Dinklage could default his way to another victory just because of the lack of enthusiasm with the field.
  17. Hmm, Gina Rodriguez is currently in 2nd place among actresses for most major noms without scoring an Emmy nom in the last 20 years, behind Lauren Graham. Might move to 1st place depending on whether Gilmore Girls' Lauren Graham can be taken more seriously on Netflix rather than The WB.
  18. "Drama cast" isn't a category.
  19. Well, I think an Editing nom is the biggest a CW show has gotten so far. Its competition are the two comedies with the most major love. It would be great, though unrealistic, if the HBO shows split their vote and CEG won. Back in the WB days, Buffy got into the main-ceremony category Writing. And Everwood got a Guest Actor nom for James Earl Jones. Looking more carefully, if you look at network shows primarily designated as Comedy, Drama, or Limited Series, Crazy Ex Girlfriend is tied for the 2nd most noms after Big Bang. It’s tied with Modern Family, Good Wife, and American Crime, so even though it didn’t get a “main” category, still impressive. I’m undecided on possible upward mobility, given that 3 of the noms are for song and dance, which obviously most shows don’t put a ton of emphasis on. Maybe it’s mainly the Emmy voters in that field who found good reason to seek out this musical show. Rachel Bloom & co. could try to use this as a shield next season against the likely quite low ratings.
  20. If I had Melisandre's powers, I would perform a blood magic sacrifice and take away the Five Nominees' bids to get Sophie Turner one. Dinklage Williams Harington and Clarke didn't impress me at all this season. Headey only occasionally did, and I preferred both Turner and Dormer in the finale.
  21. 6 episodes are submitted for Drama. Those 6 aren't yet announced, though presumably 4, 5, 9, and 10 are among them. It looks only 5 under-21 actors previously got nominated for a main Drama category: the 50s' Johnny Crawford for The Rifleman, the 70s’ Melissa Sue Anderson for Little House & Kristy McNichol for Family, the 90s’ Claire Danes for My So Called Life & Kellie Martin for Life Goes On. Only McNichol got multiple for the role; will Williams join her?
  22. Now that I'm less immediately enraged by the acting noms, it's actually pretty bizarre that Maisie Williams got in over 2x Emmy winner and 2x Sag winner Uzo Aduba, even if it's clear that Orange is the New Black has lost momentum each year.
  23. WTF WTF WTF. Jon and Arya get noms, yet Sophie who is the best is STILL cruelly robbed! I hate the Emmys! I hate this show! Ugh, what is wrong with the world.
  24. Well I think technically they're waiting for fall (September) to film.
  25. So Podeswa is doing the first 2 eps next season again. Given my opinion of his episodes, I expect unexciting things from them. I remember D&D claiming there weren't any 'small' episodes S6 cuz all of them were Event packed, but that was a lie. http://www.indiewire.com/2016/07/game-of-thrones-jeremy-podeswa-director-emmy-video-1201702115/
