  1. I almost didn't watch this episode as I thought I had already seen the story on another true crime show. Turns out it was a different young woman but same story where she tried to keep a guy by pretending she was pregnant. It certainly seems more likely than not that Ally never was pregnant. As was also pointed out, Ally never talked about raising a child without the guy, other than to say she was cute and would have no problem finding another boyfriend,

A sad story all around, but to me really sad that Ally appeared only to be going to university to find a guy to marry. She certainly didn't deserve to lose her life, but I can also see how the guy was freaked out. A waste of two lives.

Did anyone else think that Ally's father looked a lot like William H. Macy?

  2. Did anyone watch this weekend's 48 Hours episode, which was about husband killer Lynlee? There was no mystery, as the title of the episode was "The Poisonous Wife". It was only an hour long so cut out a lot of the filler that Dateline put in(and often does) their version.

A couple of things brought up that I don't remember in the Dateline episode. They showed text messages between Lynlee and Ben from just a few days before he was murdered. Lynlee was $200,000 in debt with her spa but apparently Ben didn't know she was that much in debt until then. Though of course we knew from Dateline that he had been subsidizing the business all along.

Lynlee sold the property and snakes fairly quickly, and moved away. She cut off contact with Sam and his family very quickly, and did not allow Sam to see Ben's children. They showed Ben after sentencing speaking in court, and bringing up the fact that Lynlee brought the children out to the farm, knowing she would find their father dead. He talked about comforting them at the scene as he is covered in Ben's blood, and them asking if their father was dead. At the end of the episode Sam said that he is now raising Ben's children.

I don't think it was brought up in Dateline, but under state law the judge was not allowed to change the 13 +3 year sentence Lynlee was given by the jury. He was absolutely disgusted, and told Lynlee that she was very lucky to get such a light sentence, and that she would only be in her 40s when she got out. He concluded by saying quite vehemently that he hoped  when she got out that she did not kill again.

  3. Well, that installment of the Heather Dubrow show was boring.  When they kept going on in previous episodes about Heather and Gina going to New York together, I thought Heather and Gina were going to New York together. Not that Gina was a tag-a-long with Heather and her kids. Odd.

Also odd that the only two people who appeared not to be wearing masks at Heather's talk at the uni were Gina and Heather's son.

Who were the man and woman sitting beside Heather's mother in the restaurant? If they were introduced I must have missed it. I wonder why Heather wanted to subject Gina's parents to her mother? And more importantly, why did she want to subject us to her mother?

“Fargo” and “To Die For” (also based on a true story) both come to mind for me. And I absolutely loved them both, so I’m in for the duration.

Fargo is one of my favourite movies. I don't think I have seen "To Die For" so will have to look for it. Another Coen Brothers' movie that I loved is "Burn After Reading". Not based on a true story, but in the same vein of dark comedy.

I wish this was true, but I've always been under the impression that the families have zero control over what true crime entertainment is made from their tragedy, and get absolutely no remuneration, whether from books, podcasts, shows or movies.

Maybe I'm mistaken in this belief. I just know that when watching Dateline or similar shows, I often think how much I'd hate it if someone made this kind of show about someone I know.

I actually do know some people who were murdered or involved in murders, I'm shocked to think of how many. A friend was murdered. My dentist was murdered. I'm suddenly getting chills remembering sitting at a pleasant dinner in my apartment years ago with a seemingly normal man who later killed himself and his family. How would I feel if they were the subjects of a TV show, with all their family's dirty laundry being aired?

I do think very worst of all would be a comedy made from the murder. But at least the victim here and her children aren't being mocked. So far they've made her seem like a good person with a nice family. Only Pam is being made fun of.

Sigh. Watching true crime is such a guilty pleasure for me. So many mixed feelings about it.

I googled to see if I could find anything about Betsy's family and their feelings on this series but couldn't find anything. I did read that it was thought that the actual facts were considered so dark and grim that it was decided to write it as a dark comedy, along the lines of Fargo. Which makes me think that the family will be portrayed in a good light (as they have been so far) and Pam and certain other people who deserve to be portrayed in a poor light will be.

As a fellow true crime addict, I know where you are coming from. But if there is any person who deserves to have her story told in this manor (for those who don't follow true crime), it is Pam.

The Russ character has to be somewhat exaggerated.  Nobody could be that stupid.  Who would not have immediately jumped to murder instead of suicide based on that scene.  And yes, a lawyer would have been advisable.

Betsy's dog barking while Pam was making the phone call has to come in to play later, right?  (Speculation on my part.  I know nothing of the real case.)

IIRC, when Russ made the 911 call, he only saw the knife, and the slash wound, He didn't see the other stab wounds due to the dark clothing Betsy was wearing. I think the reenactment including phone call was based on the actual call. Betsy had threatened suicide previously, so it was likely the first thing that came to mind. As opposed to.....someone killed my wife.

I loved when they showed the dog (poor dog!) cowering at Pam, and then Pam driving off with the "I ♥ Dogs" bumper sticker.

Not to give anything away, but if you aren't familiar with the case you are in for a jaw dropping ride.

  7. OMG, Keith Morrison narrating was just the best surprise. What a hoot! I also feel a bit sad for the victim's family, but if anyone deserves to have her life to be made into a mini series where she portrayed in this manner, it is Pam Hupp. Bring it on!

  8. Ah, I am sad about Josh and Bobby breaking up. Mostly for selfish reasons because I will miss seeing Bobby. I really enjoyed the mini Josh and Josh series because there was more Bobby (and no Tracey or Fredrick which was a bonus). I wish them both well, but think as some others do that Josh would be a very high maintenance person to being in a relationship with.

At least there is some good news, that Fredrick is not returning, I didn't mind him on the NY version, but did not like him in LA at all. I think it is a good move on his part to step back from the franchise altogether. I wonder if his ego was a bit bruised when Josh and Josh got the short spin off?

I don't recall hearing them mention that, no, but wow, if that's not a massive red flag right there....

Ya, kind of a big piece of info for Dateline to leave out. Luckily the police suspected her right away so she was never able to collect on the insurance, thank goodness.

  10. I watched the YouTube video and found some things there that were not covered by Dateline, and also some things that were left out but Dateline covered. Did Dateline cover the fact that Ben had a million dollar life insurance policy that Lynlee tried to cash in on less than 24 hours after Ben's murder? If they did I missed it.

I wish Dateline had shown the footage (as the YouTube video did) of Lynlee mouthing "thank you" three times when she heard her 13 year sentence. Pretty much sums up her guilt right there, and that she knew she was damn lucky to get off as easy as she did.  How any friends/family/lawyers can still think she is innocent is beyond me.

I'd have to go back and relisten but wasn't she trying to say that after running away from the guy shooting at her husband, she then went to work and was surprised when her husband didn't pick the kids up? And was stunned later to discover him shot?

That had me literally laughing our loud. So there were at least 8 gun shots that she would have had to have heard, but was surprised to find that her husband might actually have been hit by a bullet (let alone all eight, and was dead as a doornail). She really was a terrible liar.

I loved Andrea's interview at the end, but really wish she had asked Lynlee why she dug up some old boyfriend that she hadn't seen in 6 years to go with her to the farm to ask Ben for a divorce? He did deserve some jail time, but no way should he be serving a life sentence while Lynlee gets what amounts to a slap on the wrist. I assume the two employees got some sort of immunity for testifying, but as others have said, how horrible that neither bothered to alert the police to the murder plot.

Pretty sad for Steven...perhaps it's the story of his life.

My comment that I didn't care which woman Steven ended up with was not a reflection on Steven, but that neither woman has giant red flags flying over her head like Carolyn does with Kurt. Both have their pluses and minuses, and likely each have the same chance of have a successful (or unsuccessful) relationship.

  13. Wow, Whitney was really bad at reading Steven. He pretty much said that he was ready to settle down, she said she wasn't. I have no idea why she thought she would still be in the running after her date with him.

I think Kurt will end up with Amanda.  He seemed to finally get annoyed that Carolyn would not acknowledge that he is the one who would have to fit into her life, that she is the one with the kid and ex. I wonder if he chose a very low key date for Carolyn to see if she was expecting some big romantic gesture? In any case he knows that Amanda does not care if he has money. I also don't think that he cares that Amanda does. They have had a connection from the first, and he would not know that she had money if her mother had not told him.

In the preview it makes it look like he is telling Amanda that he has stronger feelings for someone else, which makes me think it is editing and he really told that to Carolyn. Here's hoping. I don't really care which woman Steven ends up with.

  14. When there is a case covered on one of the true crime shows, particularly Dateline as they tend to leave out a lot of info, I often will Google to see what other evidence was left out of the episode.

Barry told police that he went to bed at 8pm on Saturday night, but there is evidence of his truck being backed up to a door at his house at 9:30 pm. Data from his truck shows a door on the truck being opened and closed seven times between 3:25 and 3:45 am on May 10th. Barry then left at 6am that morning for his jobsite, despite the fact that he wasn't supposed to go until the next day, and in fact was to pick up a worker the next morning to travel to the jobsite.

He first though went in a different direction, the direction where Suzanne's bike and helmet were found.

Some of this I think was covered in one or both episodes -

    - a shell casing on the floor beside Suzanne's side of the bed.

    - tranquilizer cap found in the dryer

Barry said he used the gun to shoot chipmunks, but why would that explain a casing in the bedroom?

Barry said that he tranquilized deer to cut off their antlers. In May, deer are just starting to grow antlers, then shed the fully formed ones the next February.  So Barry would not have been tranquilizing any deer in May for their antlers.

There was a piece of lacquered wood found in the fireplace, despite there being stacked wood for burning near the fireplace. There was also the remains of documents and books found in the fireplace. Suzanne kept a journal but it was never found.

Suzanne confided to a friend, including via texts, about wanting to leave Barry towards to end of March, and that she didn't feel safe when he was home. Also that he kept begging her not to leave, and would not discuss divorce.

Oh, Barry also put forth the theory that Suzanne was killed by shady people she was buying drugs from. Don't think there was ever any evidence that she did drugs?

Anyhoo Barry is a POS, and I have no doubt a murderer as well.

48 Hours just covered the same murder as Friday's episode, but slanted much more toward the husband being guilty. Dateline didn't even bring up how the guy used the tranquilizer gun to shoot bucks and saw off their antlers, which made me hate him whether he is a murderer or not.

Doesn't sound like there is a ton of evidence, so not sure how the trial will go. I guess a lot of women just happen to be murdered by someone else right when they are about to leave their husband.

I think Dateline did a very poor job of covering this story. I remember thinking that when Keith Morrison just casually mentioned that the husband tranquilized deer, I would have thought WTF? except that 48 Hours explained that he cut off the antlers of bucks. They did show a picture that included a pile of antlers in the corner of a room, but I don't think I would have put two and two together from that. So thanks 48 Hours.

There were certainly a lot more things on the 48 Hours show pointing to Barry's guilt, and a lot more about Suzanne's two year affair. I also remember on the 48 Hours episode that Barry claimed that he and Suzanne had made love the day before she disappeared. Not likely, considering she had told him that she was leaving, and hadn't cared about him for a long time.

In any case, as I posted on the 48 Hrs thread, I hope he is found guilty just so the animals in his vicinity (deer, chipmunks and who knows what else) stay safe.

Talk about assumptions being made here when the show is heavily edited and we don't know the whole story. In this day and age no one wears watches so that was a created situation for the show.

Ha - just before I came to this site I ordered a solar powered watch to replace the one I have worn for 10 years or so. I also have several other watches that I wear depending on what I am wearing at any given time. For me my watch  is another piece of jewelry. Many people wear Apple and such type watches to track their steps, heart rate, etc. Still a watch. Most people I know still wear watches of some sort. Those that don't like my husband don't because their cell phone is pretty much surgically attached to them. That will never be me, and I love my watches.

My prediction is that Kurt will choose Carolyn, and they will split within a few months. Same with which ever woman Steven choose because none of the current contestants are cut out for country/small town life. I hope that the show then brings both Steve and Kurt back for a second season, as their relationship is more real and entertaining than any that the guys have with the women.

  17. Interesting that neither set of parents hosted the visits. Steven's was of course at his home though the ladies didn't know that. and Kurt's was at his brother's. As some others have mentioned, I think it is possible that Kurt has a few million dollars at least. After all, having a million dollars these days isn't all that unusual. Also his shoe box sized apartment doesn't really mean much as if he works a lot and has no need for more space, why bother?

Loved Martin's staycation. He is a gem.

I really hope Kurt ends up with Amanda, but I don't know if he is smart enough to see through Carolyn, Indications are so far that he isn't.

  18. I wonder if it is producer manipulation that resulted in Carolyn not having any family there? As in they wanted to continue the 'mystery' as Carolyn continues to stonewall Kurt. Because otherwise, as others have said, that should be a huge red flag to Kurt. However he seems not to have seen any of the previous flags, so why would he see this one?

My fav pairing continues to be Kurt and Steven. They are hilarious. I can't remember which one (I think Kurt)  referred to the two of them as brother husbands, but that made me laugh out loud.

  19. I watch the show sporadically, but must say that I loved Jerry's birthday celebration today. It was so nice that the producers went all out for it, he deserves it. I really think that Jerry was the catalyst for the start of the turnaround for the show.

The clothing was  hilarious, and reminded me of the awful fashions of the 80s. The details were fantastic, right down to Natalie's fanny pack. So funny.

I love that Jerry and his wife are such animal lovers. Unlike Jerry's mother, 6 dogs and 5 cats (or was it the other way around?) sounds like heaven to me. And that they rescue animals in need makes me respect them even more, as opposed to buying purebreds.

In any case the show was great, and Jerry was very deserving of the celebration. He is such a kind and funny guy. I also loved that he danced in the audience at the end. I have noticed that often when they go to commercial break and are still showing the set while commercials are on, Jerry is up and interacting with the crew and or the audience. No one else does that.  He is a gem.

I am watching the show now, so it's not over yet, but why does Steven like Breana? She is so mopey and insecure. I would have thought that he would have picked her for the big date if he truly wanted to spend time with her. I am sick of Carolyn and her entitled attitude. It is VERY important for Kurt to decide if he wants a future that will be more complicated simply because she does have an ex- and a child. And she shuts him down every time he tries to bring it up. I hope he sees that it will be difficult to ever let Kurt drive a conversation and she is very good at that manipulation and he is pretty weak.

Carolyn said something to Kurt to the effect that a relationship with her would be "scary".  WTH, and why would anyone go into that willingly? Has Carolyn ever said what kind of a relationship she has with her ex as far as co-parenting goes? Many people have very contentious relationships with their exes, Carolyn doesn't strike me as someone who would be easy to co-parent with, considering how controlling she has been with Kurt from the start.

I was waiting to see Carolyn's reaction to finding out that Kurt had a date with Whitney right after their fairly tale date, complete with appeared to likely be a happy ending in the limo. Now Kurt had no choice but to go on the date with Whitney, but he did have a choice as to whether to make out with her right after leaving the woman he professes to be falling in love with. I know the others were trying to keep it from her, but I can't imagine it wasn't brought up at some point the next day? I only heard it referred to when Steven told Whitney at the elimination that he wished she had split the time between he and Kurt.

  21. I was trying to figure out who the runaway husband was in this episode, and until the very end assumed it was Noella's husband. It certainly would be me if I were married to her. She seemed to have a hard time getting the stacked vaginas story straight.  Jen thought it was a wedding present to Noella's husband, Noella said it was a birthday present (presumably to herself?) because it was her fantasy. Wonder if that is considered a foursome? An orgy? Certainly not something in any case that I care to see when I turn on an epi of RHoOC. Or an epi of anything, for that matter.

The boat ride was nice, and as others have said nice to have at least one segment that is drama free. I would take John's place on the water over Heather's mausoleum in a minute. Nice to see Shannon in her element, and she looked great.

John's story was heart breaking, and I have come to appreciate him and his relationship with Shannon. I like when Shannon said an epi or two ago that John would never want a threesome as he feels it would erode their relationship (to paraphrase).

I see Heather didn't participate in game night. I am not a Heather fan, but have to give her props for skipping it. I would too.

I actually liked Ryne in this episode, and have no problem with him shutting Jen down. I would imagine he signed on for the show to make Jen happy, but I don't think anything would make her happy. Since he was wearing a shirt,  I think he is over the version of Ryne that Jen was trying to present. I would take the dog over Jen too, any day.
