  1. I thought James's clapping was very unprofessional. I have not warmed to her. Not really sure I liked this season. But yes, Jay Royce was a standout for acting his part.
  2. I love Dan too. Much more than Lisa. How does she show leadership qualities? I also found it unbelievable how naive Christine was. Simon reeked slimeball through and through. And really, the head of the police department is going to shoot someone? Leadership qualities?
  3. I thought it was much more interesting than the first two-parter. Much better use of the characters. What surprised me, though, is that both Piet and Lucienne have Lena in their phone contacts.
  4. They've shown the hanging several times. I think that was a real memory. It seems to me the shooting is a fantasy of something he wanted to do. I did like this second episode better than the first. Last week's was kind of boring. This one was more like last season. I think Dan is a really nice guy, especially for taking charge of the situation with Doncker's father.
  5. One of the scenes they replayed when they advertised this show was coming back, was Van Der Valk saying, "I think we should take it to the next level." Wasn't that where the woman then told him she was getting married? That was her, right? Looks like we're in for more relationship drama. I could do without it, too.
  6. I really enjoyed season one (which my PBS station just reran). And I really like Ben Miller in this role. I've never seen any other version. This first episode of season two seemed like it lacked something. But I'm so glad it's back. Love my PBS station for showing it.
  7. I thought the pills were probably sleeping pills since Alfie seemed to think they could kill him by od'ing on them. Maybe not, if Will is popping a couple here and there. Can antidepressants kill you?
  8. Well, there is a second season, filming now, I think. So she's still coming back as DI Ray. That ending really was kind of a downer. Although there was nothing very pleasant in the entire first season. The dancing in the pub was the closest they came to an enjoyable moment.
  9. My PBS just reran season one and I'm really looking forward to season two. I love how she links classic literature or plays to her cases.
  10. Mayim seems like a lovely person. Which has nothing to do with her hosting skills. Just my opinion.
  11. I agree Mayim is well liked. If that's the criteria to win, it's a popularity contest and not based on hosting skills.
  12. The entire plot on this two part episode was so contrived. It simply served as a way to give Ridley a love interest that I knew couldn't go anywhere. So much of it didn't make sense. This series has great potential (I like how atmospheric it is) but so far it's been a lot of cliches. Only somewhat saved by Adrian Dunbar and Bronagh Waugh. And I like Julie Graham, although they have given her little to do. I hope the last two episodes are better.
  13. I thought it was suspicious that he came in right after her assault.
  14. The only person in this list who actually has any real hosting skills is Ken. I don't even see how he splits the vote with Mayim. It's Ken all the way! Although I agree that Pat Sajak (ugh) might be a token win just because he's retiring.
  15. I had a suspicion that Lydia had a secret boyfriend that wasn't Colbourne. I wish we could have seen them together at the end. Pretty much everything turned out the way we all thought.
  16. I think that was a redemptive arc for Edward and the only one that I am ok with. He let her go. There was actually something noble in that in my mind. There is no way this show could have realistically portrayed him as actually falling in love with Augusta and her inheritance be damned. (And now that I've said that, I sure hope they don't somehow reverse that for the last episode. It would be a bridge too far). Whatever we think of the character Edward, I think Jack Fox is one of the better actors on this how. And so is the actor who portrays Arthur.
  17. I actually remembered Maya from the teen tournament and she was really good. I think she placed in the finals but didn't win. She should slow down her speech a little. I don't find her chipper, just smart.
  18. I don't believe I said anything about Cris having to play like he should lose. I said I prefer a more competitive game. It's more fun to watch. Even Ken gets more excited when it's not a runaway.
  19. This is what bothers me. He rings in first, gets all the daily doubles (usually), bets big because he has the most money, etc, etc. It's like he's playing the game all by himself. I should appreciate how smart he is, but I just don't find this kind of game (or him) fun to watch.
  20. Thanks, all, for setting me straight. I feel silly. I always thought it was a rivalry thing between the Packers and the Bears. I know Wisconsinites said it a lot.
  21. I'm not sure if it's a regional thing. It might be in Minnesota too, but being from Wisconsin, I've always heard "the bears" said that way since long before the my pillow guy.
  22. Cris seems like a nice guy, but I have never seen him clap for another player when they get a daily double. And yet most of the players who know they are probably going to lose, will clap for him.
  23. I am a huge Olga Tokarczuk fan, probably because of the brilliant translations by Jennifer Croft. Her name is (deservedly) on the cover. Cris seems nice enough, and he's definitely smart, but I find myself rooting for his opponents.
  24. Unfortunately the episode was filmed weeks ago. The controversy now would not have made them change the game back then. Now that there is this outcry, I wonder if this gets addressed by Jeopardy management somehow.
