S12.E07: How Ya Like Them Apples?
sasha206 replied to OnceSane's topic in The Real Housewives Of New York City
I totally agree. It's Richard death 9 years ago. It's Hannah moving out in 2016! It's Blue Stone Manor. It's the relationship with John's ending/stalling/changing free dry cleaning and dresses that he gives her that people forgot to pick up. It wouldn't surprise me if part of her allure to him was that tough, gritty side to her that cleaned up nicely But they were only 6 years in and she's hanging with the Clintons and Desmond Tutu. She probably was soaking in the bragging rights to that and was happy. A happier drunk. But like all relationships, the luster starts to fade no matter how many politicians, 1%ers your marriage gives you access to. I would be willing to be that marriage was on its way to Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf. -

The way she teared up as soon as she said "college" I thought for sure the sob story was going to be that she had to quit school, not that her parents sacrificed to put her through school! I'm so tired of the moms who put on the waterworks. -

Exactly. When she first came on the show, she might say something a little risque, but it wasn't that graphic. I'm 52, and not to sound ageist, but it's particularly not cute when you're her age and you're talking dirty. -

So the "artificial intelligence" was answering a bunch of questions for the skin care? If I want a customized program, I'd rather go to a dermatologist and have a Dr. figure out what my skin problems are than answer a bunch of questions online! Not to mention, the market is so flooded with skin care products. The robot was annoying! -

Can she front a "Real Housewives of Chicago"? I need to see that! -

Hannah moved out in 2016. Four years ago. Again, just like Richard's death, this isn't a fresh memory for her. What is fresh is how we're hearing now about all of the issues with Blue Stone Manor. THAT is her current trigger, her current excuse this season to be a drunken asshole. It's not "dealing" with a death that happened 9 years ago and a daughter that moved out 4 years ago but she's going to roll that into the drunken emotional outbursts so people feel sympathy for her -- just like they did after she bullied Tins. John was no great love, just a companion. She's indicated her lack of desire to be out and about, so she no longer needs him as her escort. It sounds like he's been more of a friend to her and they'll continue to be friends. I don't buy that their breakup was some big jolt of emotion for her either. Dorinda's going to pull out her long-dead husband, long-moved out daughter, and 7 year relationship that was dead before it actually died as the excuse. Now the 1% worries of 2nd or 3rd home upkeep is the other new excuse, new trigger. She's not "almost" an alcoholic; she is one. She needs LuAnn and every one else to drink along with her. The anger she had towards LuAnn was really that she was no longer a drinking buddy. She seemed to start liking Leah after Leah gave up sobriety. I know I'm only 3 years, almost 4 years into the death of my husband, but there's much, much more under the surface than widowhood and empty nest. She needs counseling that goes beyond bereavement. -

I loved Ramona's old apartment too! I honestly think she did a better job decorating a place with a homey, sunny vibe versus the more modern look take. Remember Jill's apartment renovation that was so tacky? Bethenny's reaction to it was so funny! -

I think when she slut shamed Sonja, did her "clip, clip, clip" stuff, she got so full of herself b/c of the reactions on social media. I truly think she feels like she's the star of this show, but she's kicking the puppy. -

It's been 9 years since Richard passed. Nine years. My husband died 3 years ago from a 4 year battle with colon cancer at 52; I was married to him for far longer than Dorinda, having celebrated 21 years together. Having gone through what she did, I really don't believe that she hasn't accepted his death yet. Yes, there are waves of grief. But it's been 9 years. His memory shouldn't be this fresh. The pain gets a lot softer. In my view, this has more to do with mourning her lifestyle than missing a man who was married to for 6 years and 11 years ago. That big ass Blue Stone Manor costs a lot of money in upkeep and now she's gotta spend a lot to repair it. If Richard were alive, he'd be taking care of it for her. I believe the money is running out and she knows she is going to have to sell it. She's using his death to justify her drinking, emotional outbursts, anger, bullying. This season, she's saying it's b/c Hannah moved out, the BSM is falling apart and it's all on her, and now the decision to end the relationship with John. The last several seasons she's had drunken outbursts and guess what, we've heard all about her mourning Richard. It's a never ending excuse for her to drink and be sloppy drunk and to explain away her behavior. I'm not saying it isn't sad to lose the love of your life and that you can't mourn years later. But what I'm saying is if 9 years after his death, your happiness is wrapped into a memory and your reactions are excused b/c of grief, you need a lot of professional help b/c there's more under the surface. -

Agreed. I haven't read through all the comments yet (bad me) but I gotta side-eye the crying jag. I thought Tinsley overracted it. The hands over here eyes seem to hide the lack of tears. But Dorinda's a fucking asshole! -

Wait, is she saying Mario is older than John?! Yikes. But I do appreciate her sticking up for John on the college shit. Fuck, even if he never went to college who cares. He is a success on his own. -

I'm just starting this episode, but the boxer with "Dorita" and "Dinsdale" is killing me. I'm sure it's shtick, but it is still making me giggle. -

I thought it was more along the line of "I'm going to have the dramatic coming out on film!" so by the time filming was done, obviously she'd know. -

Rewatching RHONY and I miss the Sonja of yesteryear. She was so charming. So funny. And lucid. For the most part, she looked elegant. And OMG, LuAnne was so insufferable at times. I liked her year when she fucked the pirate. -

Great observations! You'd think someone that bills themselves as some sort of relationship guru that he'd have a better grasp on actual communications. I mean, according to Sian, he withheld when he was stressed and would act like everything is great. Avery feels like he sugar coats everything. And if they just got divorced, he clearly sugar coated the timing of that to Avery. You'd think a relationship coach would be able to communicate within their own relationship. -

Welcome! So nice to see a fresh face, so to speak, here! Good comments on Ash. I also thought it was so odd for someone to use the words "destroyed" when all we've seen is her being aggravated over his coaching advice. It does make sense that if break ups happened a few times, to be insecure. I'll never understand how people get so hooked and believe in some fairy tale when they haven't actually met face to face. How can you get that upset if you are "broken up" with so to speak? How can you really plan a future if you haven't actually met? I mean, I understand being disappointed if you have an online relationship that doesn't work out while you still haven't met. But until you've actually spent time with someone in person, you don't have a real relationship in my mind! -
This is the way I picture their marriage on their 10th year if he had lived long enough.
-
I agree. I don't believe her issues with alcohol suddenly showed up after the death of Richard. Maybe he was able to curb her drinking when they were with the higher ups. Maybe he was also a drinker. Maybe she was happier at that time and as a result, she wasn't such an angry drunk.

Agreed. I'm not sure why so many think he was just there for sex only, not with the hopes Rose would marry him. If he wanted cheap sex, he could take a quick, cheap flight to Vegas and have at it at the bunny ranches. What he wanted was a girly woman from an impoverished country that was so desperate to leave, she'd agree to everything and anything and worship him. Rose isn't that girl. -
He does seem that way, but I think if Lu was enthralled by a low-rent Johnny Depp pirate, she was already out the door with Jacques anyway. Sometimes no matter how wonderful a person is, when the feeling dies it dies. I think she feels more guilt about the pirate thing now.

I think those men are going to go for the younger version of Dorinda.

At first I thought you were saying Varya looks like Elizabeth Taylor. But I am thankful you just mean raven hair, blue eyes. I like Varya, I do not think she is pretty. I think she dyes her hair. It has a very unnatural cast to it.
