  1. Ba ha ha, have you seen what a hot mess MTP is these days? It's so full of false equivalency bullshit for what is supposed to be a politically unbiased show, it's not even worthy of watching anymore. While we are firing network talk show hosts, can David Gregory go as well? :P I love the idea for the new thread title.
  2. While I am glad that I watched that interview, Barbara made it even more painful than it was inherently going to be. Despised the bumpers and the way they edited it, just made it that much more skeevy. That poor father, to carry all that guilt because he did not understand the depth of his son's mental illness. I found it frustrating that there was no further insight into what Elliot's particular illness was, since there was an inference that he was there to try to help other parents see the warning signs. It would seem to me that in hindsight at least one of his treating doctors could have made some kind of determination in retrospect, after reading the kid's screed. An actual diagnosis would have been helpful to hear in the end. Sure does sound like the kid had high functioning Asperger's to me - with all the OCD, social anxiety, etc. possibly with an accompanying personality disorder. To that end, Barbara, I'm looking at YOU. Perhaps they could have expanded on all the holes in our current mental health system.
  3. Ooh I forgot Aha, watching it I couldn't decide for sure if it was Mia or Wade, it was Wade. Thanks for the link ElleTwoThree! Mia group routines are by far the most memorable collectively for me. Hide and Seek, The Moment I said It, The Dance, Higher Ground, Alice in Wonderland... S5 Ava Maria, and there are many more, but not quite as well loved. And crowceilih, I loved that Will and Jessica piece by Mandy too, also a big fan of their Hip Hop that you mentioned upthread. eta: if I'm honest about what I watch again and again from the show beyond Danny T's solos and duets it is this from Desmond Richardson, my goodness, who said a man could be this hot? Dude is on fire! And such a beautiful and luscious example of male dancers. ♥
  4. Either Rosie and Laila Ali have really good publicists (I remember that Rosie actually shared one with Madonna I think at one point?) getting their names out their repeatedly or there is a good chance that these two are set for chairs. I keep seeing them cited in different media outlets by multiple sources - or perhaps it's just the one source talking to various media outlets. I like Ross, he seems earnest enough most of the time, but after a while I think he'd get a wee bit grating, weren't he and Rosie pretty tight? I can somewhat see Whoopi and Rosie working well together with their mutual love of Broadway, Rosie is more volatile about issues whereas Whoopi is more laid back. Makes me wonder who the conservative or young one would be. Please, no Bachelorettes! Someone up thread mentioned that there HAS to be a bright recent college graduate in NYC, I concur, what with Barnard, Columbia and NYU in the city. (Julie Zeilinger comes to mind.) I like Laila Ali a lot as well. That Yahoo piece did articulate the recent history of the show very well.
  5. So... Valerie Rocky the tapper? Sooo reminds me of a young Ally Sheedy!
  6. ...and Whoopi the know it all gets the time sequence wrong for that heinous YouTube clip that I can't bear to watch. Sigh, that poor father.
  7. That reminds of that darned new car commercial - can't think what car but it touts the USB ports... kid in back seat saying MOM! MOM! MOM! kicking the seat. If I'm sleeping and it comes on - it will wake me up in a panic looking around. Funny stuff.
  8. Apparently, as well as her lack of credibility. Sounds awful, I'll have to look for clips! ;)
  9. RATS! I got pre-empted for Obama. Though watching Obama in my childhood neighborhood was way better than The Spew would have been. Were there any hints about what was coming?
  10. Dayum, that sounds brutal, glad I wasn't watching!
  11. I really like Marcquet, I think he reads much older than 18 when he is dancing. Tanisha is the only ballroom dancer that I'm not warming to either. I think that Armen may not have been cast because he is touring with Julianne and Derek Hough? I know right? Boo! I like her too, she is 20 not 18, but that is still really young. Yes. I'm going to try to stay far, far away from Mia discussions this year. What I will say is that I appreciate her much more as a teacher, motivator and choreographer but am not a fan of her being on the judging panel. eta: @shimarella, I am still bitter about her treatment as well! And I completely agree with you about the pigeonholing.
  12. I got in far too much trouble posting about The View the year that Rosie was moderating, this is my third "iteration" chuckles. And that year, we were pretty darn rabid. Just thought I'd say Hi to y'all, I remember Cosmo and susie, mtlchick, Tosia and a few others, not sure how many had changed their handles since back in the day.
  13. Sadly, appearing with Kilmeade and Doocy, Bitsy probably appears intelligent. ::coughs:: I only catch clips of her and the stupid from time to time, I just shake my head.
  14. Snerk, I noticed this as well. My lass is in college now so I didn't attend any competitions this year, but I saw this one coming the last year or two before she departed the circuit.
  15. "Random" pairings each week? So they are switching partners every week? Oooh, I would love that as I'm no fan of "power" couplings.
  16. What is Soledad O'Brien doing these days? I know, I know, that's a dream.
  17. From the Daily Beast link: And indeed, late Thursday night there came a flood of rumors and unconfirmed reports of a talent massacre at The View I'm confused, what talent? Chuckles. Waves at CosmoCrush - been a very, very long time.
  18. If I could articulate it better I would, laughs, that's why I said I couldn't quite put my finger on it. And I'm not positive that "feminine" was the right adjective either... but aside from saying straight out that they "bug me" without any reason I'm trying to express part of what bothers me about them and leaves me cold. I can see that they are good dancers, but I never "feel" anything about them, except wishing that someone else were in their place. It's rather illogical, I'm aware. ;) And yes, it is somewhat, for lack of a better description the over articulation in his feet. I realize that I am an odd duck. And? I'm just a dance mom, not a trained dancer.
  19. Hip Hip Hooray! Looks mighty official to me per Jenny's tweets. Please Ms. McCarthy go enjoy your new man and marriage and stay away from the junk science in the future. I beseech you!
  20. Most excellent news! Not that I watch this hot mess anymore.
  21. Squee! I hope this means that Jourdan & Jacque are en pointe! Really looking forward to Malene & Marcquet as well.
  22. Neither am I, I find his dancing reading feminine as well, which I really don't like. He reminds me of Jakob Karr and Billy Bell; I know I'm supposed to think they are amazing, but they honestly leave me rather cold. The over-flexibility and odd feet well, I can't quite put my finger on it, but I don't like it. I'll go quietly sit in the corner by myself on this, lol. For different reasons, I felt the same way about Melanie, she still leaves me cold.
  23. He was in the same clothes for all 4 audition episodes, so he probably spent about 20 minutes recording the whole thing - I'm pretty sure he never called the crews out by name. If he did, he never said who was leading in tweets or whatever, he and his choreographer just pointed at the bottom of the screen. This is all to say, that I think there is a good chance that we won't see him again.
  24. I find big tattoos on dancers a little distracting. I do remember that Natalie from S2 had a lower back one. I think whether or not tattoos are frowned upon is also dependent on the style of dance. Modern and Contemporary companies may be looser about rules regarding them than Ballet companies. I know that my daughter, who does want to try to pursue performance opportunities once she completes her college dance major has a small dance related one that wraps around her her ribs, so you can see it if she is running around in a bra top and booty shorts, but not in most leotards or any costumes. The bottom line for most of these dancers though - is that they want to pursue commercial dance, and not so much company dance. So I'm not certain what rules apply. Finally, there are ways to cover up small tattoos for performance. I know you were referring to big ones, but that's what I know on the subject.
