  1. Cringed when Sherri invited Elizabeth Vargas out to get drunk. Elizabeth has been pretty open about her past alcoholism and and stay in rehab. Thankfully she politely countered that she'd have a club soda with cranberry juice. But I still don't think Sherri caught the hint.
  2. Thanks for his wikipedia history, but I think you made different assumptions from my statement than what was intended. I'm familiar with Sen. Scott's background. By different experience...I'm not referencing socio-economic status. Whoopi, Sunny, and most Black people have lived entire lives and experienced enough racism to have developed superior listening skills and know a dog whistle when it sounds. It was more than just the word victim. But this is all too nuanced a discussion for this board and definitely off topic.
  3. I agree with Whoopi That commercial Tim Scott commercial was one big ole dog whistle. The "can I get an amen" at the end literally made me cringe. That being said, I didn't have the take away that either Sunny/Whoopi believed his experiences as a black man were invalid. But there is some critique to be made that his experience is different from many other black men in America. Sunny in particular rarely has anything nice to say about any Republican, so not terribly surprised she's not a fan of Tim Scott The Whoopi lap dance, as silly as the whole discussion was, made me laugh.
  4. I did not say that and the inference is yours and not mine. The teacher was wrong for using the word. Period. Full Stop. That wrong should have been reported. Period. Full Stop. It doesn't matter what the kids did. He is the adult (an older one at that) and the teacher. He is held to a higher standard. Context I agree is important and I would consider that when evaluating the punishment. Based on the context reported, I don't think he should be fired. But I think he should be reprimanded in some way. Suspended for 3 days like the young lady was. Required to apologize to the class and take diversity training, etc. But he chose to quit. (He was not forced). I also have no problem with the kids who used the word being taught why it is so offensive and inappropriate (but some might consider that CRT 😉). The young lady has an attorney likely because of the media attention. I don't think she had an agenda when she filmed it, other than recording something she found offensive. I agree with Sunny that the parents should fight the suspension. At the very least to fight for other kids in the future who might be afraid make a complaint against a teacher because of how this young lady was treated. Parents fight suspension for their kids everyday. And this was a situation where the punishment did not fit the crime IMHO.
  5. Yes. Apparently Dom and Gil have connected on social media. But then they also showed a clip of her kissing Clint. Can't wait to see the context of that kiss. Guessing it's no really as it appears. So basically Gina said that she would have been into Clint if he continued to chase and pursue her while she repeatedly rejected him. The look on Clint's face showed he was relieved to have dodged that bullet.
  6. I have no problem with the teacher addressing the conversation. Or the topic in general. But he said a word he knew was inappropriate six times. Doesn't matter if the kids said it. As a teacher, he should have first let the kids know the word was inappropriate (like he would if they were cursing in the classroom) and then addressed the conversation if he felt the need to. At the end of the day saying the word period was wrong and needed to be reported. Knowing the full context does not change that (to me). If the young lady had not recorded the conversation, the school would have probably done an investigation of some sort, but he probably would have been in that same classroom the next day. Which would have likely been disruptive to many of the kids in the classroom. The video gives definitive proof and forced the school to take action immediately. I do wonder what message the school is trying to send by suspending the young lady for 3 days? Maybe she will be able to write a great college essay about her experience like Sara said. But there are a lot of other kids who aren't as strong or don't have parents that support them in that way, that will be afraid to report things they know are wrong. And the irony is not lost on me, that so many states have passed or in Missouri's case, trying to pass laws forbidding the discussion of race in the classroom. Had that law been in place, this teacher would have been breaking the law by even engaging the kids in the why is the word offensive conversation. Even if he hadn't used the word.
  7. The term mental health is very broad. There is a huge difference from common mental health conditions like depression and anxiety and whatever mental health condition makes someone homicidal. But it's all put under the same umbrella and there really isn't a practical clinical way to differentiate between the various types. I think this is why Sunny pulls out her statistic about mental health sufferers being more likely to be the victim on crime than the perpetrator. A decent argument can be made that mental health influences are the real factor in those cases as well. I'd guess many of those perpetrators suffer from PTSD, depression etc.
  8. I think a better frame of reference during the bus driver discussion would be to ask if any of the ladies on the panel would have married their current husband if he was a bus driver. Joy was the only one of the panel who married someone considered working class (even thought teachers are college educated). But the rest of the ladies are married to successful lawyers and Sunny to a doctor. Sarah spoke openly about mostly dating older established men before meeting her husband. I don't see any of these ladies dating or marrying a bus driver either. But white women aren't usually asked that type of question or criticized for their response like like Eboni K Williams was. There are many who will never view enslaving human beings on the basis on skin color, and counting them as 3/5 human as a compromise.
  9. I'm actually not surprised. Doctors who are not OBGYNs are still very ignorant on a lot of common gynecological issues. Ask any woman who suffers from fibroids, endometriosis or PCOD.
  10. I’m pretty sure it listed his age in his late 50s. I remember thinking 1. - he looked good for his age and 2. - he was robbing the cradle with wife #2
  11. I wish Chris would have taken Nicole’s advice and on the dinosaur costume and put himself first…. He clearly did that for her
  12. Not sure the opt in approach works for public education. Parents would have to opt in to every part of the curriculum and every book in the library and that's not really feasible. I also don't think this is a both sides situation. Parents have always had the ability to opt out of parts of the curriculum they found objectionable. Whoopi was arguing that parents need to take advantage of that, rather than trying to put their beliefs on other people's kids.
  13. The second implied part of her rant is "And she will stay our of your life too". So she is considering the other point of view. She's not saying kids should be forced to go to drag shows. I doubt she has a problem with a parent who decides it's not appropriate for their kid. Or even if a certain book is not appropriate. However, she does not want other parents or state government to prevent her from taking a kid to a drag show or reading a book that professional educators and school boards have deemed appropriate.
  14. I agree no one this season is truly horrific. That might be why some find it boring. There are some cast members that are more annoying than others, but I actually want all of the cast to find happiness with someone (most of them not with their current spouse 🙂). In previous seasons there were a few cast members that I hope never married again without some major therapy first. I enjoyed this episode in particular because for the most part everyone was getting along and having fun. Loved the wives helping their husbands prepare for the pageant. And I found a new appreciation for Clint in his pageant outfit. 😉
  15. You may be giving Vanessa more credit than I. I didn’t take it as Vanessa calling out the sexism in the word nurturing. I took it as Vanessa ignoring everything we saw of Micah being a not that into Paul. She said she loved him a lot. But we didn’t see the love, or caring, or even much interest in him. She wanted to change how he dressed, where he lived, etc. But wasn’t that interested in the guy he actually was.
  16. Why bring up social media posts if you’re not going to discuss the contents of the post? For this casual viewer, the mentioning of social media drama, but not addressing it was annoying. Vanessa also irked me with her questioning of Paul. “Micah is not nurturing” is not a hard concept to grasp. The viewers understood exactly what he meant because we watched the show…. I also wished Nick added something to the reunion. If he could just cape half as hard for the guys as Vanessa does for the ladies it could bring some balance.
  17. I believe that Shaq is doing some sort of public speaking or at these events. If that's the case it is not unusual for speakers to bring their spouse, parents, other special guests. on occasion. On AfterParty Shaq said the event was part of the Magic City Classic (a big HBCU football event/party weekend). It's an event a lot of women would not want their husbands to go to solo He has not asked her to come to the university where he works to watch his everyday job. I kinda think that Airris lack of attraction is not just physical. It's emotional and intellectual as well. He wants someone who will banter with him and Jasmine is just no going to do that. He basically has said they don't have interesting conversation. I agree Jasmine will make a great wife to someone, but she's not for Airris.
  18. He seems to have a hard making eye contact with anyone. Makes me wonder if he has he some nuerodivergency issues.
  19. She's 20. Not that far removed from a child. A 20 year old who had some very unfair national criticism thrown her way on what should have been the happiest time of her life. Reason to "pout" to me. She's allowed to not be OK about all of this. Hopefully over time cooler heads will prevail and if the team chooses to go to the White House, they will.
  20. Look at it from her perspective. For the past 30 - 40 years winning teams have gone to the White House. It is tradition. The losing team has never been invited. There have been plenty of other great national championship games in women's basketball. But this year, after she and her team was accused of poor sportsmanship (The team was falsely accused on social media of not shaking the Iowa players hands after the game) the FLOTUS wants to invite the loser?.... Add to this that she's only 20 years old. Not surprised by her reaction at all. Sunny had a point on unconscious bias. Emphasis on the word unconscious. Jill was not consciously trying to be offensive or slight LSU. But there is something that made Jill Biden think that Iowa should come to the WH even though they lost. And it's not like they lost by 1 point on a last second buzzer beater, Iowa lost handily by almost 20 points. Wasn't even close. Maybe it's what Whoopi/Sarah said that it's the teacher in her that wants to give everyone a star. Or maybe it was something else that made her empathize with the Iowa team more than LSU
  21. Because it probably wouldn’t have been funny. It would depend on how the jokes were written. Most Asian and Black jokes based on negative stereotypes. The white jokes in this sketch were not for the most part. This particular episode made fun of women/brides, married couples, cocaine users, old black bald men, young white men (pdd), Floridians, and pretty much everyone.
  22. Much like today's discussion on what is A.I, reparations is a topic that would be better discussed if we all had a similar point of reference/definitions. There's a lot of proposals on how it might be done. However, it's important to note that Reparations paid to other groups previously was never need based. Sunny may be doing fine, but that doesn't negate the harm done to generations of of her family and community. Re: the A.I. discussion, Whoopi came across like those lawmakers in Sarah's clip. She doesn't know enough to speak on it. I agree with Sunny, that self-driving cars seem like A.I to me. But Whoopi seems to think only those Chat bots that's been in the news lately is.
  23. The better point that Sunny later made, was that there are people with the same rate of mental illness in Japan and every other country. But those countries don't have the mass shootings, or mass killings of any kind that America has. Therefore to her the issue is guns and not mental illness.
  24. It was relevant to the conversation on the decline of patriotism. I think all of the ladies had good points on the issue. There are multiple reasons people are feeling less patriotic. Many Black people have conflicted issues on patriotism like what Sunny and Whoopi discussed. So I took Sunny's comments as Black people would feel better with some reparations (and therefore feel more patriotic). To many reparations would be meaningful acknowledgement and acceptance of responsibility for what America has done to Black Americans over history. The practicality and logistics of issuing reparations is a whole other debatable discussion. It's not like Sunny yells "reparations" in the middle of a View Your Deal segment. She brings up racism in topics in which it is relevant. Unfortunately, that is quite a few topics that happen in the news. The discomfort that some feel when it is discussed on the show is why it still needs to be continued to be discussed.
  25. NBC has has been very lax in the promotion of this show from the start. I love this show and was shocked when they renewed it for a 2nd season, based on how NBC treated it during the 1st season.
