  1. Feel free to suggest a subtitle for this topic -- I can edit that in anytime. Also, feel free to start a Rachel Berry thread or threads for any of the other characters or actors. I'm also open to the idea of combined actor/character threads, if you (collectively) would prefer that!
  2. Okay, guys, I split the Lea Michele posts into their own separate topic. Let's try to keep this one to spoiler discussion -- talking about Rachel's future career is fine, but discussion of Lea should go in her thread. Thanks!
  3. Interestingly, The Golden Compass film did include everything from the book, minus the very ending -- he toned down the religious stuff per the studio's request, but Weitz hit every plot point and I'm pretty sure he used a lot of the lines from the book, as well. It wasn't bad because it was an unfaithful adaptation; it was bad because it was just... flat, I guess. I don't mind if scenes or even characters are cut from book to movie (again, The Hunger Games and Catching Fire are good examples of stories that were streamlined), but I want the movie to match the tone and spirit of the book, and The Golden Compass didn't at all. It also didn't manage to get across some of the backbone world-building stuff, such as what daemons are and why it's taboo to touch someone else's, or why it was so frightening and wrong for a child to lack a daemon.
  4. Welcome, everyone! I've been watching SPN since the pilot first aired, although I don't think I've ever participated in the discussions at TWoP (I would sometimes read them, though). My favorite episodes are usually the silly or more meta ones, which I believe is an unpopular opinion in the fandom!
  5. I liked Layla a lot more when she was a conniving fame-seeker going toe to toe with Juliette Barnes; I always assumed that Layla would find out that Will's gay, use it to write a "poor me, betrayed by my gay boyfriend" hit, and ride that success all the way to the top as Will crashed and burned. Now she's this vulnerable, clueless little one-hit wonder in a doomed marriage, and I'm not sure where this storyline is going.
  6. Hi, flan! There's no need to sign your posts here, as your name appears on the left. Welcome, everyone! I'm a Castle fan, but I've only posted a couple of times in the TWoP thread for the show. I know it was (is) an active thread, so I hope you all enjoy being able to spread your posts out over different threads here! Having separate episode threads should also make it easier for US viewers to avoid spoilers, and we Canadians will no longer have to spoiler-font all of our posts once we've seen an episode.
  7. Chris's film was all right, I suppose. I agree that he can't be worse than the usual crew. I allowed myself to get my hopes up when RIB hired Ali Adler, but nothing changed. My favorite (by which I mean least-hated) episode this season ("Frenemies") was written by a guy who I don't think has ever written for TV before, let alone for Glee.
  8. The Small Talk topic is for: Introductions Off-topic chatter Having virtual tea with forum buddies This is NOT a topic for actual show discussion. When you want to talk about the show:Figure out the nature of the topic you want to talk about Look for an existing topic that matches or fits If there is NOT an existing topic that fits, CREATE ONE! Examples of topics that populate show forums include (but by no means are limited to):Character topics Episode topics Season topics Spoiler topics Speculation topics In the Media topics Favourite X topics ...you get the idea Happy trails beyond Small Talk! Feel free to suggest an addition to the title ("The Bluebird," or a quote from the show, or whatever else); I can edit that in anytime.
  9. Edited it for you! I like the name.
  10. Now that you mention it, I find it interesting that Fitz's crush on Skye (which I thought was pretty obvious back at the beginning, especially when he scoffed that he didn't care about Miles) has evaporated. He was a little flustered when she kissed his cheek on the train, but didn't give the impression that he's harboring secret feelings for her. He didn't seem more broken up about her getting shot than anyone else did (Simmons and Coulson were the worst there; if I didn't know better than to expect anything to ever happen, I'd say that Simmons is the one with feelings for Skye now). I wonder why the writers just abandoned that little thread. I don't think it was to set up FitzSimmons... probably to pave the way for SkyeWard, ugh. I guess I should be happy that they're not going for a Ward/Fitz competition over the same woman.
  11. I like Simmons because she's not easy to pin down. She's a terrible liar and easily flustered, but she's confident in her skills and not afraid to stand up for herself or others, even against her boss. She prefers to follow the rules, but will break them if someone gives her a good reason. She's not field-ready but she's the first person to try to sacrifice herself to save the team (she's thrown herself out of a plane and thrown herself on what could have been a live grenade for all she knew). She's just the best. If they killed her off, I'd probably stop watching the show... but if they killed everyone but her, I'd stick around.
  12. No kidding. I was happy when the last we saw of Quinn was her going back for seconds with Santana. But no, they had to ruin it by bringing her back with a complete ass of a boyfriend who was straight out of a bad romantic comedy, and then having her run back to Puck just so that everything could be tied up in a bow (lack of chemistry notwithstanding). This show. I hate it.
  13. It's even sadder if you read the rejected first draft of Weitz's screenplay. It was better. Here's a good article about the whole fiasco, too.
  14. That was my favorite of the shorts. She kicked ass! I heard that she's in Captain America: The Winter Soldier (in flashbacks, I presume).
  15. The Golden Compass will always and forever be the adaptation that disappointed me the most. I love the His Dark Materials book trilogy. I was excited when I first heard that they were going to be made into films. I followed news about the hiring, the writing, and the filming for years. The trailer was gorgeous and exciting, and I fully expected the movie to be great. It was not. It looked nice, but it had none of the magic or message of the books; the writer was forced to tone down almost all of the religious criticism, and some important world-building stuff wasn't properly explained. I was so bitterly disappointed. It was because of that movie that I didn't allow myself to get my hopes up about The Hunger Games. Luckily, I think the first two turned out great.
  16. That's so true. Even Lamar's death was due to a lack of action on Teddy's part.
  17. Yes! "If I Didn't Know Better" and "Fade Into You" are still my favorite songs that have come out of this show. Their voices sound so good together. I think that people throw the term "Mary Sue" around too often, using it for any character they dislike, whether it fits or not. Scarlett's not a Mary Sue. She's just inconsistent and unlikable.
  18. Hi guys, and welcome to the forum! Feel free to start threads in here -- we've already got threads for all of the main characters (some are currently on the second page) and for spoilers, but if you want a quotes thread, a ratings thread, a media thread, whatever, go to town! Once Captain America: The Winter Soldier is released, I'll do a thread for discussion of how that affects/ties into AoS so that we can avoid spoiling the movie in show threads and vice versa.
  19. I actually like Skye (although I would like to see her step back and let this show become more of an ensemble in the next run of episodes), but Coulson's been boring me lately. I don't feel that his sudden "screw S.H.I.E.L.D.; we're getting some answers!" attitude has really been earned. I also think it's hypocritical of him to say that and then claim that he has to hide things from his own team in order to protect them. You've got an elite team here, Coulson! Let them in on stuff! Interestingly, Clark Gregg and Chloe Bennet got the biggest cheers/round of applause when introduced as their characters during the PaleyFest panel, so maybe we're of the minority opinion on those two. I do have high(er) hopes for the remaining episodes. We can discuss this more on Tuesday and once people have seen Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which is going to affect the show in a bigger way than the Thor tie-in did.
  20. I absolutely love them as friends, and don't want to see them as a couple, for all of the reasons Danny Franks mentioned, plus the fact that the actors themselves play them as sibling-like and don't want that to change. It's so rare to see close male/female friendships on TV -- I can only think of this, Joan and Sherlock on Elementary, and to a lesser extent, Emily and Nolan on Revenge -- and I'd hate to lose that. But yeah, bickering/banter is catnip to me. I love watching these two interact, and it's obvious that they care deeply about each other.
  21. I haven't seen Crank! I'll put it on my list. I liked Cellular (2004) more than I expected to. It's ridiculous, but it knows it. The tagline is, "If the signal dies so does she," for heaven's sake. And the titular phone is a Nokia 6600, so now we have the added fun of the technology (which Chris Evans's character is totally proud of because he can email a video to himself) being dated.
  22. Shoot 'Em Up. Clive Owen stabs a guy through the head with a carrot. 'Nuff said.
  23. I'm interested to read that! One of my friends is also convinced that Aria is A and is always trying to make me believe.
  24. A.V. Club recap/review of the pilot!
  25. "Block of Wood" works for me! Man, does his "acting" ever pull me out of scenes.
