  1. A famous poem by William Blake (coincidence? I think not.) goes: "Tiger, Tiger Burning Bright In the forests of the Night What immortal hand or eye Could frame thy fearful symmetry . . . " Although in "Manhunter" and "Red Dragon" we didn't see the tiger burning bright, we did see this in the episode with Reba and the tiger. In this episode, the tiger seems glowing ("burning bright") bright orange as Reba gets closer. Later, we see her "framed" in symmetry with this tiger - in orange and glowing. A most beautiful presentation. And when/where does Dolarhyde hide before he kills? In the deep woods ("forests") behind the homes of his victims. Does he see himself as William Blake's tiger, as well as Blake's Red Dragon? Maybe not presented as such by Thomas Harris, and maybe over analyzed by me (an English major who sees metaphor in everything.) - but this is my interpretation. Why take Reba to "see" an anesthetized tiger? As a way to show her himself, in one of his personas - the Tiger Burning Bright. (BTW - it was indeed a real tiger, chest rising and falling with breaths, eyes partially closed with the nictating membrane clouding them, mouth slack from anesthesia.) Although I liked the tiger episode best in "Manhunter", this certainly was a fine presentation.
  2. You are remembering correctly, both from the book and the movie Manhunter. Emily Watson in Hannibal was far too sweet. Keep in mind that the book and Red Dragon and the film Manhunter were both products of the 1980's, therefore Reba's boldness was very much a reflection of the liberal sexuality of that decade. Even though Reba had only worked there for 3 months (according to her), being blind and having other senses heightened, she would not only know his voice, but also his walk and probably his smell. Reba is lonely, Dolarhyde feels safe because she can't see his disfigurement, and we've got the perfect 1980's hook-up just waiting to happen. In the book and in the film Manhunter, Dolarhyde says, "Ride with me. It would be because I want you to." Makes more sense that way when you consider his speech impediment (caused by his cleft lip, and presumably palate.) I hope the show falls in line with the book and both movies. If so, she becomes both. Lonely + accepting + 1980's morality (remember - NOT the time frame of this show, but the time frame of when the book was written) = There's your answer. And obviously, she doesn't know he's a crazy serial killer . . . yet.
  3. According to "The Hollywood Reporter": Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that there may have been a rights issue at the center of the decision to end the series as Fuller had wanted to introduce Clarice Starling in season four, with the rights to the character previously portrayed by Jodie Foster said to be unavailable. Producers Gaumont TV are currently exploring options to find another home for the series. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/hannibal-canceled-at-nbc-804239? So . . . Ratings? Rights? Either way, the article said that producers are looking for a new home for the show.
  4. Last night while watching it, I kept thinking, "What in holy hell is this???" Then I read this forum. Aliens? Gah! Oh well, it held my interest, and summer TV viewing is sparse (although I do like "Aquarius" and can't wait for "Hannibal"). I'll hang in for a while.
  5. Oh Joe, I'll miss your pretty so much!! This may have been discussed on another thread, and is fairly petty on my part, but does anyone know what those 2 scars on Joe's chest are from? Has this ever been mentioned? Did I miss something in one of the challenges where he hurt himself? The scars look red and fairly recent. Help!
  6. Previews showed during "The Returned". Weird placement, but I'm telling no spoilers for next week because . . . yowza!
  7. I greatly enjoyed the suspense. But I do a lot of flying, and any TV show involving plane crashes usually leave me unsettled. The absolute preposterousness (is that a word?) of the plot, development, and unsub's motivation really settled my nerves. But I'm smh on the motive - a blind date went very wrong some years ago, so the guy develops a way to crash a plane that the girl was on???? Am I misreading that? Then why the second plane?
  8. topanga - Yes! Criminal Minds and Hannibal are my favorite shows. Yes, I am female. And yes, my friends wonder what's wrong with me. :D rereader2 - OK then, schmaltzy. But Schlocky has been in my vocabulary for so long it's going to be difficult to change it.
  9. I'm not one for "schlocky" stuff. (I think "schlocky" is my own word? - I mean "sappy, cute, romantic" etc.) I'm more a "blood & guts, murder mystery" kind of girl. But this is one schlocky show I truly love. Enough mystery to keep me riveted, a fair amount of blood (sometimes), and absolutely wonderful actors/characters. Last night's episode really touched me - and trust me, I'm never touched by stuff on TV. Sorry this post doesn't move anything along, I just wanted to say how far out of the norm this show is for my taste, but how much I love it in spite of that.
  10. I loved Jennifer Love Hewitt as the new agent! Compared to the cardboard Jeanne Triplehorn, she was alive, involved, and absolutely perfect with the rest of the team. I'm really looking forward to seeing more of her, Totally confused by the ending until several people here mentioned a season-long arc. Thanks for that. I spent the rest of the night thinking "What?" - mostly because I watched the misogynistic "Stalker" immediately after CM, and I can't stand misogyny on TV. So who's the real unsub here? The guy who cut off the arm? Or one of the guys selling/buying women on the internet? (Not as misogynistic as it sounds - I noticed there were men for sale on that website too.)
  11. The title of this episode: "Turn" : Should have been used an episode or so ago when the Dome was rotating. Not to mention: Somewhere, Bob Dylan is puking in the nearest toilet. PLEASE Let there not be a third season. Oh wait. Somehow this dreck has sucked me in like Drownsie through the vortex. Please, Big Jim, come and kill me before I have to suffer any more of this tripe.
  12. I just don't know about last night's episodes, but I'll say that for me, Extant went from a fascinating sci-fi story to a shark-jumping mess of disjointed junk. And so much I really didn't get at all - when Molly entered the cabin/biodome/plush resort room, did she actually have a vision where the real past changed into boyfriend being alive and 7-month old baby was in an incubator? If so, did she not realize it was a vision and not reality, or did she realize it was a vision and therefore stumbled comatose out of the cabin in numbed grief? Alien baby needing massive doses of protein powder for its human side and the souls of disposable humans for its alien side? Stupid. John being so blatantly obtuse that he's unable to see he's being held captive? Unless John has the IQ of a rutabaga (which we know he doesn't), this is not believable at all. Ethan now being so arrogant that he can predict the moves in a game of chess ("it's easy!"), and steals the phone from dad to monopolize a pointless conversation with Mom? Smack that little robot so hard that he loses his chips and boards. I'll hang in there for the remaining 2 episodes, but if last night is any indication of things to come, I will have wasted a bunch of my summer life that I'll never get back.
  13. Oops - typing too fast!! I meant Season 2 !!!!
  14. Anyone know when Season 1 DVD's will be released? They're not showing up in Amazon yet.
  15. Last night's episode was about the young camp supervisor who fell in love with the loathsome, unattractive woman who was 20 years his senior. Strangely, I'd never seen this episode, I thought I'd watched them all. The young guy killed the kind, loving husband to keep the woman's love. I just didn't get the whole "I love her so much I'll do anything for her - even kill" thing. Both the husband and the young boyfriend. What did this woman have? She's really not attractive at all, had a loathsome family, obviously took these men for their vulnerability, and almost got away with murder. I think the woman's name was Patty, the young guy's name was Hispanic. I may not have a great memory for names, but I'll never forget this episode.
  16. If Thomas Harris' books are "canon", then Freddie is indeed alive. And, as I said above, we've yet to meet Francis Dolarhyde. (so brilliantly played by Tom Noonan in "Manhunter".)
  17. Based on the preview: Is Francis Dolarhyde up next? *edited because it's Francis Dolarhyde, not Thomas.
  18. I watch (I'm embarrassed to say). It's my favorite comedy hour on Thursday nights! The show is so offensive in so many ways - the completely wrong way it portrays someone with Bi-Polar disorder (symptoms do not return if a person skips one day of meds), the actor who plays the brain surgeon (he is pure comedy with his terrible acting - soap opera star), the obvious stereotype of Dr. Black being Esme's real mother, the Patient-of-the Weeks diagnoses - surprise! brain tumors!, etc etc blah blah blah. Last night was only slightly offensive than the first episode - but Soap Opera Doctor was his usual hilarious self. The ending with Esme's piano recital and Dr. Black stepping out of herself to dance to the music was well done. As shown, she was imagining her dance, but the camera faded into her still sitting on the bench. About the only well-done scene in the show. Not sure how long I'll stick with this debacle - probably until something better replaces it. I'm surprised the show has lasted 2 episodes.
