Yeah when the show premiered. Not before. They made him Olivers bestie and all just to incorporate things from the show. The real/original Merlyn, Arthur King also appeared in TheNew 52 still as a villain.

Well Tommy Merlyn was a creation of the show, the original Merlyn from the comics was named Arthur King so we still would've had 2 characters from comics and 1 inspired by comics.

I think the show would've been fine. I think Felicity/Diggle still would've come along and become part of the main cast. Though if they went this route and focused to much on a triangle, I can see the show possibly failing. But if they would have transitioned Tommy into the Dark Archer properly throughout the series, I think it would've been popular amongst the fans.

I fully believe it was because they got backlash for white-washing. They should've just recast the role.

Maybe, Katie posted it today so assumed it was new. ....Scary but looks like she is filming.

Well this part has to do with Olivers new love interest in season 4.

Coincidence Colton is in Vancouver? I'm assuming thats where they are.

Lemme quote myself Which is what I see them doing here. This new love interest is only being introduce to accommodate what they are doing in the present. Giving him multiple love interests (not just women he has sex with) in the past just makes everything they tried to sell in Season 1 even dumber. Now of course they could use this to swing back to past Oliver gaining feelings or whatever for Laurel again to tie with the beginning of S1 but I don't see them doing that.

Well that would be the point of how I saw the situation.

There isn't but i just never bought what they told us with Laurel being the big bad sister that came between Sara/Olivers potential relationship. A couple months ago when they announced part of the flashbacks. I'll find the link when i get home.

To me, them adding the whole "laurel knew i liked you but pursued you anyway" is changing things as i think they had different thoughts on what happened before they decided to make Laurel look like the enemy. Her picture meaning nothing now in flashbacks, is changing to accommodate. By the time Oliver comes back to Starling, his entire feelings (it seems as of this moment) will entirely different from what we were introduced to.

I see it as them changing the past to accommodate what they want to do with the future/present. Especially when MG basically admited to it for s4.

Maybe that's how she copes with sticking with the show lol.

I'm fine with the present but I'm talking about how i think they've changed the past. And how now that past doesn't seem to matter which is why i wouldn't be surprised if they forget to involve Laurels feelings in the kid storyline.

I guess you could say they added on, but to me i always saw it as changing things to fit things to the new story they wanted to tell. In s1 they wanted O/L to be this big romance. Oliver was in love with Laurel (in the writers own weird demented way), her picture was "important" to him, he wanted to be with her. S2 happens they change it to gear more towards Sara and s3 it was as if nothing had happened, now they are adding a new epic love romance to the flashbacks to help parallel Olicity.

It seems like she took the job on the intent she would be on equal footing and not specifically just be around as a love interest. If she knew how the next two years would've gone, she probably would've turned it down.

Well minus the constant back and forth. Even TVD finally got around to having Stefan move in. Maybe a more edited version of Buffy/Angel/Xander except L/T happen briefly, doesn't work out, break up, with Tommy eventually moving on and holding off on L/O in general.

Forget that they were together due to b the constant changes they've made to their history.

You mean lack thereof? I would be surprised if the writers remember to have her around or find out about it or that she/Oliver were even together during that period.

The show probably would've been a bit stronger if they had stayed with that format imo. With Oliver/Laurel gearing towards becoming becoming heroes and Tommy slow decent to the dark side and basically being a Merlyn type . I love Katie in the role but the writers should've written Laurel more as a go getter who wasn't hung up on Oliver with wittier 1 liners when it came to dealing with her issues with Oliver instead of downright hate for him.

Totally. They mention her still going to Ted for sessions instead of just dropping it. For sure. That's why i hope it turns out differently then what it sounds like.
