If Kelly Filkins (Ebay of Pigs) isn't there, it'd be criminal (much like her.)

S01.E02: The Run Of His Life
teebax replied to Tara Ariano's topic in American Crime Story: S01 The People v. O.J Simpson
I see others have already responded, but I want to add (as an 80s kid) the Naked Gun movies did marvels for his name and stature. I knew him as a football player, but he retired when I was really young. When those Naked Gun movies came out, I became much more interested in OJ. Although they had adult themes, the Naked Gun movies were immensely popular. He also did some commercials; I remember him running through airports for Hertz. My biggest issue with OJ, which was pointed out during this episode, was that he didn't seem all that interested in racial issues until it became convenient for his defense. For the record, I'm so tired of hearing how all black people thought he was innocent. I'm black, and I don't know a single other black person among my friends and family who think he didn't do it. However, we were, and continue to be, tired of police getting away with treating us like sub-humans. I have been pulled over for DWB more times than I can even count, as evidenced by the fact that I never get a ticket. I have the audacity to be black and successful in Arizona, so it's a part of life for me. Someone even suggested to me that maybe I shouldn't drive such nice cars if it bothers me that much! Anyway, I didn't celebrate the OJ verdict at all. But I understood those who did, however misguided their affections for OJ may have been. I'm glad this show is on, and I'm glad it's doing well in the ratings. We see much hasn't changed over the years with regard to police and black folks. We also see that the most important color is green. Can you imagine your average Joe (black or white) being treated that way while having an arrest warrant for murder? Look at the Aflluenza kid. The shit is still happening now! -
I think I have the same model car as the plaintiff, although I could be mistaken. The front of her car looks like mine. Anyway, the bumper does sit pretty low, to the point where I have to be careful when I park in lots and also when exiting my driveway, so it doesn't scrape the curb. I could completely understand what she was describing and was also worried JJ couldn't wrap her head around the concept of the bumper preceding the tires. At least she didn't tell the plaintiff to go somewhere and have it buffed out for $200, like she often does. JJ has no concept of how much body work costs. Milian on TPC is never surprised by estimates, but JJ often is suspicious of them. We were joking about that, but if anyone did want to do a meetup for this group, I'd totally be there. It'd be great to meet you guys in person for a drink or 20.

I have since deleted it, but I'm pretty sure they were asking for the name of the fabric, not the animal. I'm sure someone will let us know for sure.

Yep, I knew for sure that she wasn't going to pick up that horse. She was such a liar. I think the defendant knew it, too, but genuinely wanted to care for the poor, neglected horse. The chair repair case reminded me of one we saw recently in which a woman taught herself to upholster furniture on Craigslist and, predictably, had no clue what she was doing.

Yeah, what was up with Alex yesterday? Senior moments? I thought he handled both errors well, though, with his apology. Niki's victory surprised me as well. I was sure she was a goner after that horrific first round she had!

I don't know when it started, but there seems to be an overwhelming majority of people who think someone must be responsible for every single thing that happens to them. We see it over and over on these court shows; people have something unfortunate happen to them, and then they demand someone else pay for it. How you can live to be 66 without realizing you have a metal allergy is beyond me. I also can't understand why it didn't dawn on her to have the jewelry tested to make sure it was real. I know if I break out from wearing a piece of jewelry it's usually because it's fake. I would have at least had it tested for that before marching to court. The defendant, I thought, was more than willing to make her happy, but nothing short of a full refund would have pleased her. I agreed with MM that she did have good taste in jewelry. I didn't see anything she purchased that I wouldn't have purchased for myself. Her stubbornness during the hallterview was just sour grapes. She can use the gift certificates as gifts for other people. Why cut off her nose to spite her face? Not using them doesn't hurt the defendant in any way. Regarding the idiot with the gym Groupon, my brother stopped offering Groupons for his restaurant because most of the customers who were using them were huge pains in the ass who ran his servers around and tipped really shitty. Yes, it brings people into your business, but if it's not the clientele you'd want, what's the point?

Doesn't JJ always say that bail is something the person arrested has to pay back, regardless of circumstances? She's so inconsistent it's hard to keep track, but I've seen other bail cases similar to this one where she required the defendant to pay back the money. If she really believed he didn't want to get out of jail, why didn't she rule in favor of his ridiculous countersuit? Why did she completely ignore the fact that the defendants had, in fact, made payments toward the bail? I just did not understand this ruling at all. The sad sack with the deceased daughter who gave his money to an incarcerated prostitute was ridiculous. I feel for his situation, but only a complete moron would believe that the defendant really had feelings for him and was being honest about her intentions. He took her to Walmart? If someone takes me to Walmart on a date it's the last date we'll ever have. Everyone say it with me: You can't buy the affections of another.

I hate to say it, but I'm out. I just can't enjoy watching Amy completely meddle in Allison's life. I get that she's her angel, but I find her character completely annoying and inappropriate. I love the cast and have really tried to like this one, but I can't do it.

Sturdy Barbie hit way too close to home for me. I am a butch chick who lives in a ranch house in a marginal school district. I no longer have it, but I had a Mitsubishi at one point as well. Kate was totally channeling me, and it was hilarious. Just call me a Sturdy Teebax.

Is there a way for a layperson to be able to tell? There are a few I've seen that seem absolutely fake, but then there are so many crazy stories on JJ too, so I'm never quite sure. Are the judges on the fake shows also fake judges? By that, I mean are they at least attorneys, or are they actors as well?

The explanation from Alex at the end was more fun for me than the entire game. I guess it's good they have those contingencies in place, but I feel for the kid who missed out based on the first round score.

I'm going to require a lot more info than you've just provided. We need behind the scenes details. Spill it!

There's nothing like seeing someone you know on one of these shows. I have a crazy aunt who went on Rikki Lake with her daughter, much to the rest of the family's embarrassment. Speaking of trash, my parents had some grade a trash right across the street from them years ago. My mother was leaving for work one day, and the husband asked her, "Hey, where do you go every day all dressed up like that?" My mother promptly replied, "I go to work so people like you can sit on your porch and drink all day." It's no wonder she likes JJ as much as I do!

S01.E01: Who Are These People?
teebax replied to ApathyMonger's topic in You, Me And The Apocalypse [V]
NBC promoted this as a comedy, and it wasn't one. I think that was a mistake on their part. I'd not heard of it prior to it being advertised this year, so I was unaware of the British connection. I do like a lot of British programs, but this show just didn't work for me at all. I actually thought it was terrible and unwatchable, and I promptly removed it from my DVR playlist. I like a lot of members of the cast, but I just can't take another show in which I spend most of my viewing time trying to figure out what the heck is going on. I watch tv to escape, so I'm out. -
Good grief. I think I'll stay in. Negative. It's sex with cars, not on them. The girlfriend destroyed the car because he kept having sex with it, so he was suing for half the cost of the car, since he paid for half. Fun episode.

I learned that there are people who are addicted to having sex with cars from Judge Karen the other day. She really gets the crazies over there. I guess I do learn something new everyday.

I was surprised that MM seemed to act like she'd never heard of a sou-sou. I only know about them from another case that involved one. But then MM went on to say that they are legal, so she obviously had heard of them. It was just strange to me. I believed the speaker litigants after seeing the video. Yes, the female plaintiff went off on them; I'd have had a similar reaction if I'd purchased something and then found it it was given to someone else. And I didn't believe that the person picking up the speaker showed a receipt. I think the defendant thought that all tall black guys look alike and turned it over without proof. As someone else said, it's hard to pick up anything you've ordered without proof, so it's a good thing they've changed their store policy about that. All of that being said, I have to question the plaintiffs' priorities. If you can't afford a rental truck for a day (isn't it like $30?) why are you spending $400 on a speaker. It's none of my business how people spend their money, but it seems like a better plan would have been to ascertain the cost of the truck rental and factor that in when making the purchase in the first place. Maybe it's just me... I probably shouldn't say it, but I was thinking that she probably wouldn't have so many health problems if she weren't so big. She was really large. Of course, her size could have been because of her health issues, but I also had a hard time believing she was doing all the work she claimed to be doing.

My biggest challenge during the college and teen tournaments (I skip Kids Week) is when they ask anything about current music. I never thought I'd be that person, but I'm completely out of touch with the music of today.

I can't like this post enough. That there is an entire family of bullies, and it ticks me off that they got away with behaving the way they did. The only thing that ruling will accomplish is to encourage those little shits to keep behaving the way they did. And then the parents are going to unleash them on society... fantastic.

Oh, we discussed the heck out of that case the first time it aired. If I remember correctly, most of us commented that a lot of serial killers start out by killing animals.

There is a Marco's across the street from the school I work at. In fact, they give our students a discount (I think it's a 10 inch pizza and 20 inch soda for $5.) The manager of our location came in the school to tell the staff they were going to be on UB. They even had little discount cards with an encouragement to watch the UB episode, so I figured it probably went well. What their employees said about marketing is absolutely true. If there weren't one near my work, I'd have never known they existed. I don't see anything about them - no local commercials, no ad stuffers in my mailbox, nothing. In fact, the person I watched this episode with told me she's never heard of Marco's Pizza, and we have several here. Also, they came in the school on Thursday to promote something airing on Friday, which seems like it was a last-minute marketing idea for them. I thought the boss came off no worse than any other bosses on the show. I agree that highlighting the security issues was a bad idea. I was also surprised that the boss was completely unaware that so many of their locations had been robbed.

I got FJ based on the quote, I assumed it must have been a traitor. My mom guessed Cornwallis. I have never seen an episode of The Simpsons in my life. Oddly. I do get some Simpsons questions right, since it's so ubiquitous, but had no clue on Troy McClure.

Thirded (or fourthed.) The reason he was so indignant was that he knew he couldn't return the phone. Also, the fact that he tried to get someone to turn on a blacklisted phone shows me he didn't give a damn about the person from whom it was originally stolen. As long as the phone worked, he was happy. Personally, I'd be horrified if I found out I'd purchased something that was stolen and would have made every effort to get it to its rightful owner.

Every carrier I've worked with will reinstate retroactively unless you've had a claim. They require a no-loss letter in order to reinstate. I am sure that if you did have a claim during that grace period, you'd have a hard time getting the carrier to pay. And they'd be right since technically you weren't covered.I've had clients who play that cancel notice/reinstatement game every single month. Then they act surprised when they get non-renewed because the carrier is sick of their shit. I've also had carriers tell clients that if they want to continue having coverage they need to switch to EFT billing. Those are also the clients who are the most labor-intensive, nasty, and demanding. Does that sound like any court show litigants you've seen?
