  1. As always, we can't assume anything about people's circumstances without knowing the full story. They may have obtained the dogs before their situation changed. My dog is like a member of my family, and I wouldn't give him up just because I hit hard times. As someone who recently had to deal with the loss of a job and the loss of a fiance (yes, folks, the engagement is off), both of which really affected my finances, I wouldn't want someone judging me because I have a new car, which was bought when my situation was much different. Just my two cents.
  2. I'll answer your privately; check your e-mail in a minute, and let me know if you have any other questions.
  3. I thought she was cute. Different strokes for different folks, I guess. I almost never think someone people describe as beautiful is, so my mileage apparently varies from most people's. She was also chicken-necking which I can't freaking stand. She was so indignant and had no remorse for ruining her child's credit. I say this all the time: just because someone is family doesn't mean you have to have them in your life or help them. If you have shitty people in your family you're better off developing a solid group of friends who won't take advantage of you.
  4. I used student loans to help with my living expenses. The GI Bill covered most of my tuition but not enough that I didn't need some loans. They can't be discharged in bankruptcy, so people need to be really smart about how much they borrow and realistic about their ability to pay them back. My parents had no money to help me, so if it weren't for student loans it would have been very difficult for me to attend college. I certainly wasn't making enough money through work to pay for everything I needed to pay in order to go to school. I guess someone could be dumb enough to blow it on a trip to Cabo, but I think most of us who use student loans actually use them for educational expenses, which includes a roof over your head, transportation, books, etc. Knowing they have to be paid back was a good enough motivator for me not to borrow more than one actually needs. ETA: I should say that I'd like to think people are responsible, but I watch enough court shows that I should know better than that.
  5. There was a lot packed into this pilot, which made the hour go fast for me. I enjoyed what I saw and added a season pass on the DVR. Great casting.
  6. I have not watched this case yet, but based on what you wrote I completely agree with you. JJ does that quite a bit, and it always irritates me. The owner has a right to have the property repaired before the sale of it if it was damaged by someone else. She'd see it differently if it were one of her palatial houses.
  7. I thought it was because of Grace's religious views.
  8. I'm catching up on some missed episodes and just saw this one. What do you mean by your comment?
  9. I may have mentioned it here before, but in my development a lot of the parents drive their kids to the school bus stop. There are several stops in the development, so nobody lives more than a couple of blocks from one, but every damn morning the SUVs and minivans are lined up with the soccer moms and their precious snowflakes waiting for the bus to come. This is Tucson, so bad weather is rarely an excuse. I've never seen anything like that anywhere else I've lived (although this is my first home in the suburbs.) The kids can't walk to the freaking bus top? Wyld can't walk ,or bicycle, or skateboard, or hover, or pogo stick himself to the park?
  10. Here's the one millionth sign I grew up in the 80s: My parents never took me to a park beyond maybe age 6. I'd ride my bike or walk to the park with friends. Nowadays CPS would be banging on my parents' door for being so neglectful. I'm glad I grew up when I did.
  11. I don't think I've ever seen anyone penalized for adding more words to a song title, but I could be wrong.
  12. My alma mater is the Wildcats, which is the nickname for at least 10 Division I schools. I knew it wasn't coming up in that category. BTW, my Christmas tree always has a bunch of Zona stuff on it, so I can relate.
  13. I usually back into my garage. My neighbor across the street has a HUGE pickup truck (welcome to AZ), and I worry I may back into it when I'm backing out of my garage. So I've started back into it to make it easier for me to get out. I never thought it was weird to do, though.
  14. I think I yelled Be More Specific a few times today. Didn't he say Franklin as well, or something like that? I like the new champ. We actually cleared a board today. And I love that he hit the college nickname category early. The middle contestant's FJ wager was odd, although it didn't matter. She didn't even bet enough to cover the ex-champ. Wagering has been strange all season.
  15. I can't even imagine what happened to that defendant that his head looked like that. And someone is procreating with him? No matter how horrible these dudes look, there's always some chick willing to get knocked up by them. Good grief.
  16. I had the pleasure of watching the urine in the mouthwash couple with my parents, who don't watch regularly. Unfortunately, we were trying to eat at the same time. That was one of the nastier cases I've seen on TPC.
  17. I said Upton Sinclair for the Sinclair Lewis clue because I always, always get them confused. I was ticked off that we didn't get through the Emmy category in round one. That's in my wheelhouse. It was a meh game to watch. I got FJ by doing what the poster upthread mentioned. I figured it was whoever was president in the mid 1980s and got Reagan fairly quickly.
  18. Did anyone else get a new case today? We had the rare instance of JJ changing her mind about the bachelor party that trashed a limo. The plaintiff had drug tests to submit for six of the seven of them to prove they weren't doing lines of coke. Unfortunately, that was more damning since it was the seventh dude that was the problem! They were from Fargo, which I just finished marathoning on FX. I guess there is a market there for drugs.
  19. I need to study the ancient wonders again before the next online test. That's one of those things I did not retain at all.
  20. I know almost nothing about MN, other than things about their sports teams, but I know when we hear a litigant confuse borrow and loan they're almost always from there. I wonder why that is. I have a house full of folks for the holiday, as usual, so I am out until some new episodes air. I want to wish my fellow boardies a very happy holiday, regardless of whatever and however you celebrate! You really are the reason I continue to watch JJ, who I vacillate between loving and hating on an almost-daily basis. I love the snark you provide and can honestly say this board is one of my favorite internet hang outs. Please be safe. Don't drink and drive. Don't text and drive. Don't drive without insurance. Don't hit someone and run. Don't slash anyone's tires. Don't put sugar in anyone's gas tank. Don't throw a brick through anyone's window. Don't shoot at anyone from your car (or anywhere else.) Don't let the horrific traffic cause you road rage. Don't file a false report against an officer who pulls you over. Don't cosign for anyone, ever. Don't let your horses rape other horses. Don't wear a dreadlocks wig in order to disguise yourself. Don't advertise a pregnant cow for sale if it's not knocked up. Well, that escalated quickly. I may have watched a little too much JJ lately. It's probably good I'm taking a break.
  21. I am on pain meds too, so maybe that's why I understood him and agreed with him. What he was saying was that when you're a kid it takes forever for Christmas to arrive, but as an adult it comes so quickly. He said it seems like last Christmas was just two months ago. I think it was because toll road consists of two separate words, and the category was eight-letter words. I could be wrong, and please correct me if I am. I had more of a problem with hardwood being accepted, but there ya go. Did the contestant interviews seem long to anyone else? I had no idea what the contestant was talking about when she described dressing up as broccoli. First she was talking about kids and then she was talking about gas. There were three of us watching together, and we were all completely confused by that interview. And then there was a long story to basically say that Matthew Broderick thinks the ex-champ shouldn't walk around NYC in heels. Alex's response was funny, because I thought the same thing about Sarah Jessica Parker's heels. We also had a NY Times category, which always seems to take forever. I had a good game playing along, but watching it wasn't much fun for me. I was surprised no one guessed Taj Mahal for FJ. My mom was insistent that was the answer until I pointed out they were looking for an ancient wonder. I didn't have a clue, but I knew Taj Mahal was wrong!
  22. Thanks for the tip! It looks like DirecTV doesn't have that Buzzr channel, but I'm sure I can get to it somehow. I'm going to set the DVR for What's My Line. I really love old game shows; and I don't like Family Feud nearly enough to watch it as often as they show it on GSN. The only "original" game show on GSN I like is The Chase, which is a version of the British show. I think it's nice of them to let Claudia come back at all. In theory she'll have the same advantage of having played before. I feel worse for the third contestant who will have to face two people who've been on the show previously. Of course that happens when there's a tie as well.
  23. GSN used to show old game shows on Sunday nights. I really miss that block. Anyway, Bennett Cerf was a panelist, and I think that's how I learned that tidbit about Random House. The clue was worded so that it should have been easy to guess at the answer, so I wasn't surprised they all got it right. Other than saying the full name of each category, I like the new champ. I wondered if there was a benefit to being in the first position early on, since she seemed to be ringing in faster than the others.
  24. I can't remember a game with three newbies since they stopped the five-game limit. That was a strange beginning, until Alex explained what happened. The champ from Friday must have gotten the gig of a lifetime. Good for her, and it's good that the show will bring her back. I imagine they'll just have two returning champs that day.
