  1. I did notice Judi Dench was in the Supporting Actress montage for Shakespeare in Love, and obviously Robin Williams was in the Supporting Actor montage for Good Will Hunting, which was also a Mirimax film. There were also a lot of The Weinstein Company films in clips like Christoph Waltz in Inglorious Basterds. I wasn't awake for the Best Actress montage. Did they include Jennifer Lawrence's Silver Lining Playbook win or Kate Winslet in the Reader or Meryl Streep for Iron Lady (she has another win to pick from at least)? Because those are other Weinstein Company, don't forget to thank Harvey wins. I'm thinking skipping Gwyneth in the montage may have been because she was an unpopular win, and not necessarily a "we must erase all things Harvey" attempt.
  2. So Shape of Water defied the curse of not being nominated for a SAG for Best Ensemble and losing screenplay. When Get Out won for original screenplay, I thought it might sneak in and take the top prize. Dunkirk was deserving, but I really wish they'd split those awards. The sound editing in Baby Driver was phenomenal.
  3. Omg Jordan Peele walking off stage and the absolute joy on his face. I'm so happy for him!
  4. Guillermo is guaranteed the Oscar after distributing a six foot sub, right?
  5. I loved her taping his speech from the back row. I hope they dvr'd the show to get some usable footage
  6. I liked Mary J's performance dress so much more than her red carpet look.
  7. I just found out that Chadwick Boseman was the original Reggie, how funny.
  8. His first. He was snubbed for The Social Network, which I'm still bitter about. His delivery of "My Prada's at the cleaners with my hoodie and my fuck-you flip-flops, you pretentious douchebag" deserved all the awards.
  9. I remember thinking he was not good on All My Children (but that could also be because All My Children's writing wasn't stellar), but he's obviously flourished into one of the best actors of his generation. I don't think he's quite as charismatic as a young Will Smith, and he hasn't had much comedic material (don't see That Awkward Moment) but his work with Ryan Coogler has been really great. I'm glad that Black Panther is giving both Michael B Jordan and Ryan Coogler the recognition they deserve, since Fruitvale Station was largely overlooked, and Sylvester Stalone got all the attention with Creed. Wasn't Andrew Garfield campaigning hard for a bisexual Spiderman? Looked it up, he definitely meant MJ.
  10. Joel Edgerton did have a lot of success with The Gift, which he wrote, starred, and directed, but yeah, I would put him on the poster for "insert generic white guy here." He's not really a leading man, but he's not a character actor either. He's just sort of there.
  11. I think it might be close. Age of Ultron was a shit movie and is still the second highest grossing Marvel movie (Black Panther will no doubt pass this, but as of today...) because while there's a lot of overlap between Marvel fans, some only show up for an Iron Man movie, while others only show up for Captain America... and the greatest audience is in the sum of its parts. Added to that there has been a lot of buzz for Infinity Wars with record breaking trailer views, the promised climax of 3 phases of world building, and they'll not only get a boost of new Black Panther fans (expect T'Challa to show up a lot more in television spots and trailers for IW) but also from Guardians of the Galaxy fans (a smaller bump, but a bump none the less.) But you're right, I think IW won't get the same number of repeated viewings as Black Panther is getting. I think the top three grossing Marvel movies will be a toss up, because as of now, Black Panther is on track to dethroning the first Avengers film, and will probably set a number that will be really difficult for IW to match, but not impossible.
  12. Lol at Terry calling out Tara for crying.
  13. Did the "Olympic Athletes from Russia" not march in the closing ceremonies? Or did NBC just not cover it?
  14. Tonga wore a shirt! (Well a weather appropriate jacket)
  15. Boo! I just woke up to find I had 3 hours of hockey coverage on my DVR!
  16. I think someone mentioned a few pages back that Nathan Chen was scheduled to perform, but backed out due to illness.
  17. The team event is making the US team so complacent, because of the size of their program relative to the rest of the world, they're almost guaranteed a bronze. Mirai referring to Daleman as a gold medalist, is technically correct, but Gabby obviously didn't take that medal and decide that her Olympics had been accomplished, but I guess it's different for them, since Gaby came in third at World's last year and was in contention for the podium, while Mirai was a very long shot dependent entirely on her 3A.
  18. When they kept on replaying the clip of Alina doing a never ending triple combo at practice, the commentators kept saying it was to intimidate her competitors, but the way she went bounding towards her coaches after the fact to tell them how many she did, it looked more like a little girl seeking approval from her parents. I felt bad for both the Russians, because the commentary seemed to be "this is the peak of their lives, after today they'll no longer be useful because there's an endless supply on reserve set to replace them."
  19. Johnny and Tara were saying that Russian Juniors at this point are doing quads in the ladies program. You have to start training quads at a very young age (which is why most of the "older" men have a really hard time adding them in) so ten years seems realistic.
  20. Re: If Ashley had been named to the Olympic Team instead Ashley takes a page out of Adam Rippon's forget the high scoring technical elements, just skate so it looks good playbook, but still under rotates and two foots all of her jumps. She gets an inflated component score because the judges seem to give a bonus to the skaters they recognize who also already have medals (see Patrick Chan and Carolina Kostner. Ashley's bonus is lower though, because her medal was from the Team Event.) She still ends up around 10th place. *Insert lots of put upon faces so that the audience thinks that she was scored unfairly when she wasn't* Cut to interview with Andrea Joyce where Ashley reminds us that she likes to be the underdog and her free skate is her better program anyway. *Insert brought to you by Toyota smile* Free skate, Ashley again two foots and under rotates her jumps. She probably doubles out some triples too. She smiles at the end as if none of those mistakes happened. Her component score is much better than the other Americans, but her technical score is on par with the earlier skaters. She maybe places ahead of Bradie and gets 9th. Ladies Figure Skating in America is saved!
  21. Well, dang. I don't think the US ladies are going to see any movement in the standings.
  22. She didn't win though. She bombed the individual event.
