Hello There! Speculation for Obi-Wan Kenobi
absnow54 replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Obi-Wan Kenobi
After Episode IV, since Leia’s rescue is now tied to the rebel movement and in direct conflict with the Empire, I now accept Leia’s “Help me Obi Wan Kenobi” speech in ANH as a cover, since she can maintain plausible deniability. Since she’s broadcasting a message that could be intercepted (like R2-D2 could ever be compromised though…) she has to keep the message clean. “Hey, Obi Wan, remember when you legitimately served my father as a General to protect this beloved Empire?” plays a lot better than “Hey Ben, remember when you rescued me and we discovered the Path? Well that path has led to some crazy places, let me tell you.” -
Same. I was on the edge of my seat every time she got caught. I think Obi Wan trying to smuggle Leia out of an Imperial Base by hiding her under a trench coat may be my new favorite Star Wars moment of all time. If Vader heard that part of the story the remnants of Anakin Skywalker would have emerged enough to admit that was 100% something he would do.

Hello There! Speculation for Obi-Wan Kenobi

In Rogue One, isn't Vader sort of brought onto the Death Star project to play the cleanup crew? He first appears after the Death Star fires on Jedha, which blew the project's cover, and then he seems to be in charge of the task of retrieving the Death Star plans, so it seems like Darth Vader is brought on as the special ops guy, who starts to gain more and more control of the Imperial Navy as the Rebels gain more ground. -
Taking to the speculation thread...

It makes Leia’s audacity stunning. I’m surprised he didn’t have Lawrence Kasdan write the PT scripts, since he adapted both the Empire and Jedi scripts as well as the Indiana Jones movies. He obviously knew how to capture Lucas’s vision. I’ve also read that Lucas tried to get Spielberg and maybe Ron Howard to direct the prequels, but no one wanted to stand in the way of his vision.

Hello There! Speculation for Obi-Wan Kenobi

I’m like 95% sure that the series is going to end with Obi Wan defying Owen’s wishes and introducing himself to Luke with his iconic “Hello there” catchphrase. -
From a certain point of view.

Someone on Tumblr pointed out that Leia remembering Padme through images and feelings in Return of the Jedi was close to Obi Wan remembering his family in this episode, and then, when she asks Obi Wan if he's her real father, it's because she might also have images and feelings of Obi Wan since was there when she was born.

Hello There! Speculation for Obi-Wan Kenobi

This one doesn't bother me too much. I don't necessarily interpret it as "the last time I ever saw you." I think it still works when you consider when Anakin left Obi Wan in Revenge of the Sith, and it's Vader's way of rubbing salt in old wounds of Obi Wan's failure to save Anakin. I'm truly hoping that Vader encounters young Leia and is on the scent of her being his daughter, but for Obi Wan to reveal that Padme had the baby, and that it was a son, which will bring Vader's line in Return of the Jedi (Obi Wan was wise to hide her from me) full circle. -
Even knowing that Obi Wan survives until ANH, and it was only episode 3 of a 6 episode show named Obi Wan Kenobi I was still hiding under a pillow during his confrontation with Vader. That was intense!
-
This bothered me in the second episode too. So far Leia only knows him as Ben. I don't think she even knows his last name is Kenobi. Just Ben, so maybe she doesn't put 2 and 2 together until A New Hope when Luke tells her he's there with Ben Kenobi and her droids. I can't imagine, now that she's personally being used as bait by Reva, that Reva won't monologue about Obi Wan Kenobi to her, so my suspension of disbelief is weakening.
-
In the realm of Star Wars de-aging, that's nothing. They probably wouldn't even have to CGI KS face for that!
-
I mean Obi Wan has quite the history with Duchess Satine, maybe we'll se Bo-Katan show up.
-
I'm kind of surprised they had Obi Wan and Vader face off so early in the series. I figured that would be an episode 5 thing, but now that Reva has Leia, I'm wondering if the premise of this show is based off the throw away line in RotJ when Vader realizes Leia is his daughter and tells Luke that "Obi Wan was wise to hide her from me."
-
More like a 2 part series, and heads would roll!
-
Knowing how dramatic Anakin/Vader is, he probably realized his life would be devoid of meaning without this cat and mouse game he's plotted against Obi-Wan, and holding him prisoner to endlessly torture him will just take the fun out of it.
-
Yes, in RotS, they decide to hide the twins because of the threat Palpetine posed to them, and since Obi Wan assumed Anakin was dead, they knew Palpetine would actively be looking for a new apprentice. I'm sure it's covered in supplemental material somewhere, but I think it's interesting that even after he's turned, Anakin doesn't confide to Palepetine that he has a kid on the way. When he asks about Padme at the end of the movie, he doesn't ask whether the baby made it, which I think was his own subconscious way of protecting the child until he's confirmed their fate on his own.

I've been a fan of Miles Teller since The Spectacular Now (it's also why I begrudgingly like Shailene Woodley too) and Whiplash. He does seem like kind of a jerk in real life though, and it was kind of glaring that he was hardly in any of the Top Gun promotional material, when he has one of the main roles. I don't think he'll ever by a huge star, but in another decade I can see him being an acting award nominee staple.
-
Maybe this is also the story to show why Vader starts using Bounty Hunters by the time of The Empire Strikes Back, instead of his terrible league of Inquisitors, who just seem to wander around, dramatically monologuing in the general vicinity of Jedi.
-
And the actress who played Shmi too. And in Rogue One, it was established that Bail sent Leia on a mission for Obi Wan to recruit him to their cause, so she was on her way to see him before she made the rescue video.
-
Honestly, I know we always knock Ben KENOBI’s plan to hide Luke SKYWALKER in the literal resting place of Shmi Skywalker, but the plan to hide Leia in the royal family of one of the core worlds, with a high profile senator father who personally interacted with Emperor Palpetine, and then groom her to become a senator where she’d personally interact with both Palpetine and Vader, was a far dumber plan. They probably decided to rule out training this Young Leia, because she’d probably end up force choking her enemies for sport. Speaking of which, Bail Organa must have known of Darth Vader by now. I get they wanted a big ole dramatic reveal, but it just seems like such a stretch that Obi Wan didn’t know yet.

S04.E07: Chapter Seven: The Massacre at Hawkins Lab
absnow54 replied to paulvdb's topic in Stranger Things
I forgot they split this season into 2 parts, because the minutes were ticking down, and the groups hadn’t been reunited yet. I think I would have preferred shorter episodes in favor for a tighter story, because this season has really meandered, and while I binged it, it mostly ended up being background noise. -
Seriously. She jumped off a building with only 12% of a plan, and Obi Wan didn’t immediately think “holy daughter of Anakin, this child needs to be trained at once!”
