Oh I agree, the joke doesn't work anymore. Now, if they would have been: "Remember back in the day when you could take things from a hotel and no one noticed?" "I miss those days, but hey, free soap!"
-
Another thing is, they brought back Chuck's wife with a completely different actress. Everyone thought it was to give Vanessa a friend again. Like you said, they are trying to turn the exchange student into Eve. It is Eve, but Asian. It's like: "Yeah, writers, maybe you need to admit, you can't write other characters." The write is on the wall, they are trying to turn it into a new show, but keep saying: "No, really it's LMS." "No ratings, don't go back to what they were two years ago, we need to prove we are good writers." The show is a real former shadow of itself.

That was a funny episode, but at the same time, Jill just couldn't catch a clue. Why they then decided to run with that trait over the years was beyond me. It didn't show Jill funny, showed her damn selfish.

Plus, they pulled every "first period" joke from the last 30 years. You have Gloria with her "special time and home remedy". Alex with her "expertise". The clueless parents, the relative who should have been there. I'm sorry, even over the years and the stupid that Manny has become. He would have seen the text and gone: "Nope! Not going to happen!" Even Claire's story was a big; "Been there, done that." Oh Dear God! Can we get Haley and Dylan any more stupid and will be horrible parents. I mean, even Haley's line about her period always reminded her to pay her credit card bill. Umm... even if she doesn't do paper, she didn't get notifications on her phone that said: "Your bill is over due!" Plus, even with the wrap, Dylan showed her in order several times how to wrap, what does she do? She always doesn't do the bottom. She is in baby lamaz class and she has NO CLUE what the basic answers are. Just stop, it's painful! As for Lilly, at that point, get out of the damn bathroom! I'm not going with Phil, why are they making him so stupid and dysfunctional. I mean, Luke answered all the questions and you were like: "This is Luke? He is actually intelligent."

Like I said, goes back to when Ryan broke down Abby's door and punched her right in the face. The lawyer friend turns to Abby that Ryan was attacked a bar, even though no one knew the guy who hit him and acted like Abby hired a hit man while she was stuck in a hospital bed. Saying: "But you don't know anything about that?" She didn't even know it happened until after the lawyer/friend said those things. Yet, it was: "well, yeah, he broke in and hit you and yes, his wife doesn't want to go back home to his constant abuse. However, someone beat him back, so yeah, it's all your fault, bitch!" I wanted the guy to walk out he door and then get ran over with a car. Yeah, TV justice/drama indeed.
-
Oh I hated that too and that also goes right up there with how Abby's abusive neighbor, Ryan. Just broke the door in and punched her straight on. Yes, Luka found him and beat him up. Yet, his lawyer friend is all: "Well, someone tracked him down and beat him, so it's not fair to him." What the hell was that? I know the writers were trying to say that sometimes that abusers get off like that and so forth. However, Ryan knocked the door so hard to break the chain and point blank hit Abby. That is breaking and entering and direct assault. Yet, just like the with the scizo guy who stabbed Carter and killed Lucy it was: "Well, he wasn't in control of his actions and he's a great husband and dad and his fellow students got him a good lawyer!" I hated the court systems on ER, they said they were trying to be realistic, but even when they went in favor of the stars of the show, it was poorly depicted. I remember one actually lawyer in Chicago said: "I wish my cases would go that way, because they haven't in the last 15 years I have been practicing."
-
I also agree and at times, I felt like they had to constantly have Abby go down the same dark path every season. I mean we had alcoholic Abby. Moody/Depressed Abby. Abby is almost killed how many times? She did become a large focus on the show for a very long time. Of course, they spent so much time trying to make Scott Grimes a better character since many fans did not like the fact he was such a "My dad and friends got me through Medical School" after Band of Brother was such a hit. Morris became a character I think 3 years later. However, at times it got to the point where it seemed like it went from the Abby Show to the Morris Show. Then to the Pratt Show. It was like the producers were: "We love these characters and we will ram them down your throat and you will LIKE it!"

Both of those episodes do not make me happy. Especially with Frank at the end and why he does what he does. That was too much. AS for Bully on the Bus. That ranks up there every time they tried to teach Ally an important lesson and it not only backfired in spades. ELR was very bad at teaching kids "a very valuable lesson." Of course I'm still trying to figure out how to 2 four year old twins. Went to a large garbage can, tipped it over and then just magically grabbed their grandmother's cookie tin. I mean, Debra even says how she buried it and placed so much on it. Yet the twins just waltz in kicking it like a soccer ball like it was just waiting on the lawn.

Delilah is written like a 15 year old teen (though her daughter seems pretty self sustaining) where she has always had people do things for her at a moment's notice. Barely doing anything for herself outside making herself a sandwich or getting dress. She has made things all about herself and even hearing a bit of her past earlier in the season. It seems she always relied on someone to do things for her and it was about her own well being. Her grieving with her children was to make them feel better and not look selfish. Since then every time they try bring up all this stuff with Jon, she acts like she just doesn't want to hear it or learn anything about his past. Because apparently Jon DIDN'T want anyone to know, which really makes even less sense. It just continues to paint Delilah that she has everyone with a snap of her fingers and the person who should have called her on it with Regina. Because seriously, that showed that why no one would do things for her, Delilah says: "Oh, I gave myself a paper cut" and everyone runs to her side.

They had Mandy wanting to be a real estate agent a few episodes back because her clothes got a bad review. Or Vanessa was pestering her at the beginning of the season to have a baby with Kyle. Which is what lead to "Cousin Oliver" from China coming to the show. Vanessa misses kids in the house, like real kids and feels Boyd is getting too old now. Which yeah, a 17 (24) foreign exchange student is going to fix that.
-
At times you are surprised she knew how to put on a bra.
-
Yeah, the entire story line was just one bad joke after another right up to the twins being born. Even Chandler's panic about the possible father being a killer. Because yes, of course the woman wouldn't have been interviewed about the history leading to the pregnancy.

Not disagreeing there and as we know Dre got a lot of his "black" attitude from Ruby. So, you can see how that all messed up Dre. Dre just realized unlike Pops, if you are pissed off at people are lacking money, you don't go stealing someone's TV to make sure you keep your "swag car". Or unlike Ruby, Dre knew when not to piss of the "right people". With Bow's problem, her dad was a good influence on her to be successful, but her mother being so flakey and basically having her play the mother to Bow's brother lead them to all their problems. Hence, why Dre and Bow have such odd and weird and at times very bad relationships with all their kids. Look out Little D, you got some major issues in front of you.

Interesting too that Alex brought more pregnant women so Haley would stop shaming herself. Which, was actually a nice touch, but when Claire came in with all the vodka it was: "What type of baby shower is this?" Seemed to be more for Claire and Gloria, well more Claire as she pretty much admitted this is her worst nightmare come true with Dylan.

Yeah and I had the opposite, I was passed over for a promotion way back when and the person they gave it to, turned into "I'm the boss, you all suck." Yet I ended up the main trainer and crew leader and everyone I trained was given top reviews by the mangers, but her. She constantly had to strut around like she was the greatest thing. I ended up getting fed up and quit and all of a sudden, she wasn't looking so hot as people were quitting left and right even telling the district manager they couldn't stand working with her. She was going to be demoted and she walked into the main office (an hour away) and said: "Yeah, I quit, it's been fun." The only reason she got recommended was because she was constantly doing her job as a regular crew leader and once she was put in as an assistant manager, it was: "I'm the boss, suck it!" Back to the show with Kris, yes they showed early on she did do her jobs right and was good at it. However, when they made her the manager, it was: "I know everything... wait can someone help me with this!" It was like with Ryan, constantly complained about the world was wrong and everyone told him to use his teaching degree but it was: "I can't work for 'the man'." Then when Vanessa hired him for her tutorial business, he was actually doing a good job. Then they turn around and have him take over the Pot Shop and he is: "I'm going to run this place since it was important to Kristin. Wait, I have to do books, and pay taxes and a lease? What the hell?" Seriously, I love it if the shop does close. Yes, it will make Mike happy since he hates anything pot related, but also the fact his son in law can't keep a job because he rather complain than say: "I'm too old to be acting like this, I need to suck it up!"
-
I know, you see these shows and these characters who complain about money are wearing like $300 set of clothes. I remember just last season when Taylor called Katie going out with her two friends at the cafe all the time and she wasn't working. She was: "Well, I'm an adult." excuse. Or how about when Greg did get the smoker, Katie was: "Why the hell would you buy that?" We NEVER saw him use it.

Completely agree, it wasn't like she was blacked balled either. How she didn't have a lot in the bank either didn't make sense as she apparently had no outstanding debt and her place was rent controlled. Even how she got the new job, the entire staff treating her so badly was just in poor taste too. She was the head chef and the owners saw she was a better cook than the brother that was fired. Yet, it took Monica and Joey playing up her firing him for them to shape up and fly right. It was obvious the other staff hated her because it was a family member who was fired. However, a legit business owner would have been: "Let this be a lesson to you. Do your job and make our customers happy or you can join your brother."
-
Right and even why she left the diner was because she finally realized her manager had been BSing her on why he didn't give her a pay raise or better hours. Sadly, Kristin was turn into: "I'm the best" when she became the manager at the OMD restaurant but given how Mike has to "always be right" you wonder why.

Double checking to make sure their jokes made sense? Nah. Another thing is, Dylan was born in the mid 90s so most likely even with his stupid parents, he would have BEEN watching Mr. Rogers more often by the time the show went off the air. Of course, it's also like with Haley not getting "real" maternity clothes because it will kill her "fashion sense". Oh shut up!
-
Or the stupid fact he fell asleep and the manager took him seriously on his "yes". Out of all the characters, Chandler had the most consistent and decent paying job through the entire series. Ross change from the museum to college professor was a mess. Why he got let go was his boss being a moron and him having a bad day on top of that. The writers acted like teaching at a college was like teaching middle school. Why the hell wasn't Ross ever working on papers at home or having more group meetings. Even his parking situation was bullshit for a punch line one episode. The only people who's jobs made sense from one day to another were Joey, Monica and Phoebe's. Since acting, massue and chef jobs can be great for a few years and the next you are picking up spare change. Rachel went from down and out waitress to mini executive way to fast in the course of 3 years was even confusing.

True and while the ex-husband story line was very interesting, even why he decided to leave her hanging and not pay the rest for medical school (even my mother said get a loan). Which she did, just never got why Abby had to go to him to get the sign off. At that point, she had plenty of people who would have signed off on things. Hell, I'm sure Abby knew plenty of his colleges or other people that would have signed off on a loan for her. Also, it was cliche when Abby learns her ex got a nurse he was dating pregnant and was going to step up. She had this idea that he NEVER wanted kids. Yet, he was like: "I never said that, you thought that because you were worried about having them." Him not knowing about her pregnancy just before they got divorce, I think was Abby being a coward. Instead of a: "My kid might end up bi-polar and my soon to be ex-husband never wanted kids." Sorry, that big of a thing you have to face. Of course, I still never got why her ex-husband's baby's mama gave her such a dirty look and felt like kicking her out when she came over to get the loan sign. She acted like Abby was always coming to the house, we hadn't seen her ex or the talk about the baby at that point in many, many months. Even to the fact, Abby didn't even mention her former marriage.

It was also showing Jay just doing his: "Whatever, go away" instead of hearing what Alex was saying. If Jay would have been paying attention he would have said: "Sorry Alex, that's Super Bowl Sunday and your Uncle Cam and I are making my famous chili." Because other wise, Jay would have left the house. What I don't get is, that Phil has been shown to enjoy football himself, not die hard fan, but has enjoys college football and his home team. He didn't go: "Oh, Alex, that's Super Bowl Sunday, not a good day to do that. Why not Saturday?" makes even less sense, but remember it has to be the plot to kick off WACKY HIJINKS! When it just showed how much the writers are just phoning it in now. Also showing why the Haley/Dylan twins story line is also major crap.

How very true and everyone even said that it was thrown together just to make things harder for Niles and Daphne. They should have made the cliffhanger at the end of season 6 be Daphne finding out about Niles love for her and then being proposed too. Then we get to season 7 that Daphne said no and then find out that Niles met Judy and then spent a reversal the rest of season 7 and then have it where Niles was going to get married and Daphne keeps that from happening. Because Donny was not portrayed to be someone you would hate, Jane Adams was. Though I think it made zero sense for Donny and Daphne to just SUDDENLY go out and be a couple.

Especially since both Tim Meadows character and the former principal (can't think of his name) are based on real people, but the former principal I believe is dead now. However, we know that a lot of the former staff and students are still alive. I think they could start switching things up and start having them talk about the REAL people they are based on. Though I did laugh at the Real Mellor saying his shorts were even shorter during the 80/90s. That made me laugh because you could tell that wasn't rehearsed.

Splitting Up Together - General Discussion
readster replied to Aethera's topic in Splitting Up Together
I think the writers under estimated how much the main two would have such chemistry no matter what they tried to write in. Also seeing they got an order for a final set of episodes so early pretty much was being told the show would not go on another season. The thing with Lisa Apple is that it was thrown in CASE they had another season. Two endings originally were filmed for the first season in case they came back or not. The problem was they have been having Lisa in the background showing she did lie about being pregnant. However, teasing it here and there just leads to the fact the writers left it open in case the show continued. However, they seriously need to just have it where the baby isn't Martin and have both him and Lena just realize: "Well, the lack of sex was just us not bringing it up, we have to talk like adults now."
