  1. Right and I think the show didn't realize how much the leads would have such chemistry. But the writing has been very bad with just a few good episodes, like 5 between both seasons. Not a good sign on any creativity or the producers/writers really having any course for the show unless they see the writing: "We might not come back next season." The actors who play all the kids are really not that great of actors. I know they are teens and pre-teen, but they aren't experienced and DO NOT have good writing to fall back on. The daughter comes off as acting bi-polar at things. She is worried about the environment, but thinks humanity she just die off. She thinks her parents are idiots, but believes her teacher is "in love with her" and then tries to see if it's true. The middle son acts like he just knows how to get dressed, but thinks you can shower in the middle of a forest. The youngest would have been picked up by child services by now. They constantly say that the house is under water, but Martin can leave his job (which no one knows what he does) at any given time. They spend money to fix it up to get it sold and call it even. Yet they are always going out to places and so forth. Martin and Lena can't make their marriage work by talking to each other and being adults. Yet they can go sleep with people no problem and the worst was that Martin knocked up Lisa who comes off as a bigger idiot. It's a badly written show and people have tuned out.
  2. Sadly, the show has depicted the acadmey and the people in charge as by the book, screw you, I don't care about you, but you HAVE to save lives and care type of people. Even with Pruitt, someone who was dedicated, made time for family and so forth, never ended up a Section Chief or Section Captain? The only person was Ripley who makes bad decisions under pressure, doesn't think about logic issues like people who are allergic to medication, you shouldn't give them or if there is a building damaged, don't worry about the vehicle that damaged it? Or how people just want to sleep with him because he is "hot" yet, he is a workaholic that worries about his job first and has two failed marriages as a result? Yeah, great leadership in Seattle there, what no one who is responsible and "great" at their job wants to be in charge? Because they fear a desk? Come on, it's 2019.
  3. Yes, it's too much. It's one thing if it was gradually brought up, but it also shows how the show doesn't plan things out with logical situations like weddings or funerals. I mean, when all of Amelia's sisters are going on how they didn't come to her wedding or the brain tumor. Then add in that Amelia didn't tell them about one thing. It just sparks: "Oh come on!" We get it show, actors were busy, but it reminds me of a classic situation on the TV show Everwood. They planned on killing off one of the characters since the season started. HOWEVER! They only told two of the actors (one was the character dying) who was going to die off. They told everyone else that one person would not be coming back. They finally introduced the character's daughter and explained why they had a falling out. However, when the character died two episodes later. They made the excuse: "Well, her baby had an ear infection and can't come to her own father's funeral." There was an out cry on how stupid that was and it was due to the actress's schedule. HOWEVER, she revealed she didn't know they were killing off her father's character at the time of filming or she would have made changes to work it. When shows make up some excuse because the actor isn't free or something, it just paints it as stupid, especially in episodes like this where you want to go: "That's just a plain stupid excuse!"
  4. The entire two years of the show, Martin has been depicted as just an idiot. He can't make more than a sandwich, doesn't know how to do laundry. Decides that since he feels that after 18 years, what's the point of having sex with your wife (because how the hell did he go 2 years without doing it?). The kids are even more of a mess, something I have said since the show began, the writers DO NOT know how to write teens or kids. The daughter comes off like she fell out of the 60s after Woodstock. The oldest son acts like he doesn't know how to daily function. The youngest is of course the ignored child. Then you add in the neighbors with their "teen age nephew" who I would have kicked out of the house the way he acted. Plus, his swearing rap song? It wasn't catchy, it made it seem he hated women. The show surviving was a fluke, because the writers basically fall on: "Me man, me not know anything and me house wife who can't talk and voice my issues with husband and it's 2019!"
  5. What's even worst is how much Gloria tries to deny things when everyone sees her do it. Even Manny immediately goes; "Mom, we know it was you. We have it on camera." Gloria: "No, that's not me, someone doctured the recording!" She has been written as someone who acts like if she destroys something, it never happened. Same goes with how Jay, Manny, even Joe wonder why the hell she puts up with her family members. They always do horrible things to their house. She even kicks them out eventually, at what point does she get a clue to just tell them: "Go to hell and stay far away from me!" It's not funny anymore and it depicts Gloria with someone who has a mental disorder.
  6. Yeah, despite Fox saying: "We saved it for the fans." and even Tim Allen and Nancy Travis said that was why it came back. This season proved that two things should have happened. 1. ABC should have given the show one last season and ended it. 2. They should NEVER have renewed it to begin with. While they will get another season most likely, with the talk of changing nights and a few other things, plus Disney/Fox merger going through. I don't see the show lasting after next year. It's time to close the book on the Baxters. It's become a shadow of it's former self.
  7. Yes, actually an episode that was funny, but still painted Gloria as just a big animal hater. Seriously, why does she hate dogs so much? She wanted Jay to have Stella in the first place and even Manny said he wanted dogs growing up, but they couldn't afford them. Since season 6 Gloria has been: "I hate all dogs! Die!" It's not funny.
  8. The sad part is, it paints Doris's husband like all the "mean housewives'" husbands on the show. They rather ignore anything unless someone is in conflict or they are "wasting" their hard earn money. Sad that Greg seems to be the only husband in town that seems to care about anything or wants to do anything with his family.
  9. Yeah it really showed the writers really threw the season 1 finale as a last minute thing. They never knew how it would end. They should have just had it was a false alarm with Lisa or just never showed her again. They made it just plain stupid to how they did it, and everyone's reaction to it was even more bizarre. I do think the writers and producers with all the writing on the wall from ratings to the fact this was filmed back in January were really, really hoping for a renewal. Yeah, a lot of shows are still waiting, but at this point, it sounds like the ratings have been even worst the last few episodes. Even to ABC that's saying: "We are done."
  10. We had a Pom Pom Squad so they did all the half time shows.
  11. Yeah, I think this show officially just made everyone but Jay and Phil absolutely the worst and Alex has officially crossed over to to: "yeah this show is done."
  12. They came off more believable because after everyone knew they were dating, it felt more natural. Considering their history, families, careers, ect. It just flowed better, also they felt more natural and weren't "forced" to have drama until the final season. Even Richard showing up made more sense or even Janice showing up now and again. It was something you would expect to happen to a couple who lived in the same place for years. You run into people now and again, maybe less in the city than in a small town, but it happens.
  13. According to Jim is one of those shows like Lotsa Luck that did not age well AT All. If a show like According to Jim tried to exist today as a "new" comedy it be off the air fast.
  14. Pretty much is they were "kicked out" of the Mean Girls Club too and enjoy just getting back at them now.
  15. I remember on twitter they said they were making a joke on JK Simmons character in the movie Whiplash. On how he was literally punching his adult music students. I also remember a few episodes ago when Doris just walked in and dropped Ana Kat off and the teacher asked if she had a pass/late slip from the office and she just manically laughs at the teacher in like: "You dumbass, I am beyond that!" Um.... no you can't just drop a kid off like that in ANY school. It was like a while back on the show, Splitting Up Together where Martin busts into his daughter's high school class thinking the teacher is making moves on her, when it was the daughter who thought the teacher was in love with her. First of all, no way a parent can just go into a school, walk down to a class and then act all high and mighty. Not the way schools are built and handled now, TV shows act like everyone has forgotten things like: Columbine, SandyHook, ect. Or that most students especially in the 87% statically proven that high school students might see an attraction to a male or female teacher, but are all about "personal space" like if someone brushes against them by accident they act like they are groped. People can argue: "It's a sitcom just deal with it." Yeah, but there are things like: "following the law" and you can't just do what you want to do. Going back to the music teacher, just how much money did Doris throw at her from Doris: "rich husband who doesn't care" to even act like that. Then to have Doris in some secret monitoring room, that is going way, way too far.
  16. I really love The Kids are Alright, but at times they make the mother too pissy. I mean I get it's the 70s and they have 8 kids, but really? When she said that and similar things including: "Momma, did you miss me?" her reply: "What do you think? Now get out of my way!" It was meant as a cheap punch lines where she could have said: "What do you think? Now... I need to lay down." I also get tired of the dumb dumb kids or girlfriend/boyfriend even being dumber. I don't know why writers think it's funny and when they even have characters of the show acknowledge it, doesn't mean it's great writing. It just proves you don't know anything better to do with the characters. Katie's friends, especially Dores are getting to the point I'm surprised they aren't being arrested. I mean these teens are not little kids in 1st grade. They are in high school, in fact about to get OUT of high school. I'm in education, you even make a joke or something, these kids at 14 will go: "Hey, I can get you sued or arrested." I mean, even Taylor and Cooper's friends could have had all the "mean housewives" arrested or charged with child abuse at this point. They really are going to need to get it together for season 4 because they are starting to go downhill.
  17. You know the writers don't research that, or just play it up with: "The audience doesn't know." It was like when he was trying to get tenure by getting his book published that luckily Spencer did by accident by buying every copy. However... then they stick him in some former janitor closet? If tenure was offered at a university, you don't get stuck in some broom closet office. Yes, many older colleges have offices that need to get with it that it's the 21st century, but that also requires MONEY. Plus, why is Greg always at these fairs and stuff? If he is a college professor, he should be writing papers or doing journal research or at the least writing lesson plans. They act like doesn't do anything, but get a check and makes less than $40K.
  18. I agree and I really, really hope they don't give us some out of nowhere cliffhanger. I think the show needs to have a season finale where JJ graduates and how the family will be dealing with him out of the house. This way, if the show isn't renewed, it's a great way to leave the characters. However, I really do want to see season 4 of how everyone is going to react. I can see Maya still having the problem, while she is FAR from being a parent still with two more kids at home and the second one on the way out the door. It be nice to see Maya and Jimmy having to worry about the other two teens at home and even Maya realizing it's "her turn" to have a career.
  19. Yeah, because it's more than likely getting the ax. Ratings are down 45% and have not rebounded at ALL. While there is a fan base for the show. If it gets renewed, I see ABC moving it to either let it die off because that is too big of a lost to keep it on the air. Plus, they keep pushing things to try and keep the concept of the show. I think the big problems with the story is they act like Lisa is just being oblivious life in general post baby. There is not being prepared and then there is being ignorant of reality, because it's been hit over the head the money is for the baby. Plus, Martin does have rights, if Lisa is magically going to have them take a DNA test and show the baby isn't Martin. Then this was all for nothing.
  20. Yep, sorry wrong one. Yes, the baby is very cute.
  21. Oh I got Chandler and even Joey. Trust me, there are still actors I've seen who I could care less about and yet they STILL GET WORK! However, as they say, what one person likes the other doesn't. Part of acting. As for Monica, her kickback really didn't do any major damage. She even got her first job past the dinner because she showed she was a better cook and the other guy didn't know tomatoes from a hole in the ground, but since he was the wait staff's brother, he always got a pass. I still think Monica ending up at a 50's dinner was still crap. She could have gotten a another cooking job almost anywhere, it wasn't like the situation with her getting fired was wide spread. Hell, after everything that happened, all she had to put down was: "Do not contact previous employer." I did that after I noticed I was never getting interviews after I left a job. The manager was giving me bad references. After I didn't, I ended up getting regular interviews. Even worst, I found out after I got a job, they did call my previous job. They ended up saying: "They didn't have good things to tell you, but I don't see why, you are a really hard worker." I eventually walked in and thanked them for giving me such "great references" they were in disbelief I knew. Found out later that said manager left because word had traveled the main office she was giving bad references to people who had quit, not fired, quit due to her managing. The laws have of course changed since then, you either confirm a person worked there or not. You can't high praise or shame them anymore. Companies don't want to get sued unless you say: "He was arrested for stealing."
  22. The problem is, Lisa keeps acting like Martin left her hi and dry. She was the one who called him on his BS on that he was still in love with Lena. Including that their problems were they couldn't talk to each other. Yet, as soon as she found out she was pregnant (really, she didn't have any type of birth control). She then goes: "No, I'm not pregnant." Then goes into how she has had no real job or anything and doesn't want any "hand outs". Then goes into how it's so hard, she is thinking of moving back with her family back east. Especially when they are paying for her HUGE house. The writers really didn't put much thought into this, they basically said: "We need a cliffhanger in case we get renewed... I know let's due an unplanned pregnancy. That will work." Then they show their problems with writing their characters, they can write the chemistry between Lena and Martin, but write kids, especially teens? Oh no, they are: "Act first, think last." Because you know ALL teens are like that.
  23. Right, it was ranking up there with: "They have a good lawyer who can spin it that it was the woman's/man's fault." That type of attack and then the fact there were deep teeth marks. Yeah, way too much evidence there. Any good lawyer would be; "Umm... yeah you can't get out of this, just take a plea and let's all move on."
  24. Right and it was no coincidence that following up on Station 19, they had just that. A healthy white baby boy left at the fire house with a note saying: "Find him a good home." Almost 30 years ago, it was a different story, but at the same time, DCFS and other agencies existed in the late 80s early 90s because it was becoming more common where babies were being left at police and fire stations and not in the back of a coat room at a train station or subway. That's actually the reason why there are safe haven laws now. Yet, we are lead to believe that a perfectly health white baby girl in the late 80s was just bounced from foster care to foster care in the middle of Pennsylvania. It's complete BS and I agree above, Jo has now taken over the spot from Maggie Lockhart as the most crapped up, crappy life that ever had crap done to them on TV.
  25. Yeah, but he had talked about data entry and statics in college. That usually means business or book keeping. I think it was more he was in a start job with never planning on being there for as long as he was. However, didn't sound like he made really any effort to do something career wise, which was odd. I get Rachel and Phoebe's career choices of just having a passion for something and then just kind of fell up to success. However, Ross, Joey, Monica had definite career plans and passions. Chandler was a bit of in-between things.
