  1. I agree about calling CPS. I think the answer to why they didn't is "This is Grey's Anatomy." And given that this is Grey's Anatomy, I doubt that Ellis was put on a psych hold, despite them showing her having restraints put on her wrists, which I imagine were only there so that the staff could treat her. It falls under the "Declare Miranda Bailey incompetent?!" reaction from season 2. Plus, one of Mer's revelations in her season 4 therapy was that if Ellis had really wanted to die, she would have cut her neck instead of her wrists. Maybe the doctors treating Ellis realized that, too, although any self-injury shouldn't just be written off. Also, in this episode, current Mer said something to the effect of that both times she and Ellis just came and went from the hospital. I noticed Sarah Paulson's blonde hair, but not her brown eyes back in season 6, but I do recall people making a stink about the eye color as well. I did try to check for eye color tonight, but never figured it out. Glad they at least corrected that. Ellis is definitely not one to wear colored contacts!
  2. Thanks, @RaeSpellman! I knew which Grey's character was being referenced, but didn't know why he was being called Booger.
  3. Thanks for the answer about the casting @Daisy! I don't recall the jealous Richard information before. In fact, it seems contradictory to last season when Richard showed Leah the pic of him with Ellis when she won her first Harper Avery. Unless he did that like Mer planned the champagne toast for Cristina--to cover up the jealousy. Also, agree about telling Bailey anything. How to add even more hot air to Bailey's already over-inflated ego!
  4. There appears to be a line forming to apply of that position. That would've been brilliant as a way of protecting Jon by putting Drew in the hotseat. I wonder if she at least told her own tribe.
  5. The suicide attempt was after Ellis left Thatch. He probably hadn't truly forgotten Mer that quickly. Ellis probably did something to prevent him from coming to get Mer. Yes, because that's what he was yelling at her: "You have a child!" ETA: Were those the same young Ellis/Richard actors as in the season 6 flashback episode? The actor playing Richard looked the same to me, but I'm not sure about the actress portraying Ellis, other than it once again bugged me that young Ellis had blonde hair when Kate Burton's hair is red. Ellis doesn't strike me as the type of woman to change her hair color.
  6. I think that this was one of the best Grey's episodes in recent seasons. Like @jschoolgirl, I only looked at the clock because I was hoping there was more time left. That's how it was for me with nearly every episode in seasons 1-3, then it became very sporadic after that. It was great to have an episode hold my interest so much again. I loved the absences and limited appearances of those characters who were absent and had limited screen time. Right when I read this, I could only think of Lexie, and I was wondering if you wanted Dead Denny 2.0. Oops! I quickly figured out you were talking about Molly. Agree. Derek mentoring Lexie was my favorite part of season 8. Derek's reaction to Maggie being Mer's sister seemed completely inline with his character, to me. Holy smokin' Patrick Dempsey!!!
  7. The problem is that these centric episodes are not a break in formula anymore. They are formula. Chris Chulack did the same thing on ER when he took over as show runner in season 10, and it was an epic failure. Hollywood is a prime example of needing to learn from the mistakes of those who came before them.
  8. I hate the phrase "hot mess" and even more so after hearing it so much recently from the twinnies on TAR and Survivor. That being said... LOVED this episode! Good riddance to Drew! Loved that it was his idea to throw the challenge, then he got voted out seemingly without his tribe mates knowing for sure that he threw it. What an idiot! I had a thought as to why Drew may have targeted Kelley... As he sees himself as a "ladies' man," and Kelley's "loved one" isn't a "significant other," maybe he hit on her and she shot him down, so he was looking for revenge. Is Keith someone who has never seen Survivor? Sub-alliances have been around forever on this show. It was even one of Special Agent Phillip's "BR Rules" in Caramoan. Nice to not have Josh narrating the episode! Too much screen time usually leads to me disliking the person, and this is not an exception. Didn't care for Baylor or Alec this episode, but I felt for Baylor a bit. I have no tolerance for people giving me crap or talking down to me, especially when they have no right to. Is it Drew or Jon who this is referring too? It's late and my memory has started to fall asleep for the night. What I wanted to say in response to it is, that if Kelley is Emperor Palpatine, then this hissy fit makes Drew/Jon into Anakin Skywalker (Anakin said "If you're not with me, you're against me." in Star Wars Episode III.).
  9. I am hoping for a HUGE karmic kick in the pants for Jim because of his mouth. I will laugh so hard when it happens.
  10. And it would end with a 30 second dance party!
  11. It made me think that Owen was going to turn and find that Callie wasn't there anymore too. Exactly what I said to my Mom. I would love it if Alex would keep fighting based on this, but I'm guessing that it will just get swept under the rug by Shonda.
  12. And once again Shonda and Co. crap on Alex. Poor guy can't ever catch a break. Love, love, love Mer and Alex as friends! The bathroom scene was so cute and funny! Stephanie needs to STFU! If she hadn't kept bugging Bailey to prepare, Alex probably would've kicked Bailey's butt. We thought Bailey was insufferable before. She's going to be way worse now. Liked Amelia until tonight. Is it too much to hope that Mag-Pie walked into the same black hole in the parking lot that Hahn walked into? The shallow side of me couldn't help noticing how smoking hot Patrick was looking.
  13. Someone upthread mentions 3 challenges per episode. What am I missing? I can only think of reward and immunity challenges thus far. Exile island is the only thing I see taking away from the camp life stuff we'd been getting more of in recent seasons.
  14. Mer has been an attending since the start of season 9. She didn't do a fellowship. Neither did Bailey. However, I'm almost positive that Richard mentioned that he did a fellowship when he was reminiscing to Bailey in the season 2 finale scene when Bailey informed him that Denny died. I don't know if general surgeons do fellowships in real life, so I can't say which is the more realistic scenario.
  15. I agree that it's a faulty system, but it's the reality of the situation at GSM. It's just like middle management who can't complain to or about the slacker entry-level employee because the slacker is the daughter or son of the owner of the business. It happens in reality, not just on TV. It's extremely difficult for me to do this, but I'm going to cut Mag-Pie a tiny bit of slack... There's a good possibility that she always worked at hospitals where rank WAS determined by the position within the specialty and the board was a separate entity, so she was trained to follow that. So working at GSM requires her to adjust to being outranked by some of the attendings. I'm not condoning the way she's acting. I'm simply saying that I recognize what her mindset might be.
  16. If you're interested in this, have a look at the "Conspiracy" thread in this forum. It has a discussion about how Production seems to have at least one favorite each season, someone who they want to stay in the game longer, so they "unintentionally intentionally" or "legally intentionally" (meaning without violating the players' contracts and other legal regulations) favor those players and facilitate them staying in the game through tribe swaps, the way the HII clues are handed out, and other "twists." In the opinions of some viewers, like myself and other viewers who I know personally and have discussed it with, Rocker fits the description of the type of person who Production likes to have in the game as long as possible.
  17. Recently I've read a number of Facebook and Instagram comments in which people are saying that this is EP's last season on Grey's. The last I heard officially was late last year that, except for Sandra Oh, all of the "originals" plus Sara Ramirez had signed new contracts to stay on through the end of season 12. That was assuming that ABC would renew the show for that long, of course. Has there been a more recent change that I missed?
  18. That's another facet of what I said about the way Mag-Pie was talking to and about Mer. What authority does she have over someone who is above her in the hierarchy of the hospital? Being the head of her department doesn't make her rank higher than an owner/board member, even though the owner/board member is "only" (I use "only" very loosely and for lack of a better term) an attending. Even Owen, as the Chief of Surgery, doesn't outrank the attendings who are owners/board members.
  19. For me, that's a humungous strike against him. I despise that phrase/attitude. YMMV, of course.
  20. I Googled "Bethany Hamilton religion" as well, and I don't get that impression at all. I really like these two so far and hope they do well on the Race.
  21. I came here to say that! Plus he has major creepy bug eyes. I'd need a double dose of nitrous oxide if he was my dentist! Tanorexia? :-) The editors adding the fake sparkle effect to their too-white teeth creeped me out even more. The last dentists I remember on TAR are Lake and Michelle, who I wouldn't let work on me either.
  22. I would be very, very surprised to find out that Shonda is not involved in day to day operations. I also suspect that the writers seeing and hearing her a lot. I've never watched PP, Scandal, or HTGAWM, and don't intend to, so I don't have a personal opinion on whether PP or Scandal slipped when new shows came along, but I've watched Grey's since day one, and I do feel that the more pies Shonda has her fingers in, the worse Grey's has been, especially when she has a brand new show. Oh, I hope not!!!!! I told myself that I would stick with the show at least until Patrick leaves, but "Pierce's Anatomy" could be a deal breaker. I barely made it through "Izzie's Anatomy," and was quite relieved when Heigl left. Shonda's history of "3 episode arc" characters becoming series regulars makes me very nervous about Mag-Pie.
  23. When Mag-Pie was being such a witch to Mer, did she not realize that she was addressing a board member and partial owner of the hospital who could eat her job for lunch and spit it back in her face for dinner? Or did she just not care? Typical of this show... Neuro: Just Derek, other than the occasional mentions, Mini-Me, and now the addition of Amelia. Ortho: Callie. Plastics: Mark, now Jackson. Pedes: Basically nonexistent until AZ, now Alex added. Whatever Addison was: Basically nonexistent before and after Addison. Trauma: Basically nonexistent before Owen, now April added. General is the biggest department, with a whopping total of 3 attendings in Richard, Bailey, and Mer. I know there have been occasional appearances and mentions, but I don't even think there were enough of those to constitute full or even adequate staffs.
  24. What is this crap show, and what has it done with Grey's Anatomy? Maggie getting the VO was too much too fast. I almost didn't watch because of that. Is it too much to hope that Mer saying that Maggie was wrong about Ellis being her mother is foreshadowing that Maggie really was wrong and Ellis isn't her mother?
