  1. That "greeking" is necessary if there is no product placement deal in place.
  2. Heh; that's twice. I apparently march to the beat of my own drum.
  3. No, I was responding to ElleryAnne's musing that it could have been fun to see a jealous Mulder (had Scully dated Pendrell).
  4. I like the doof, but the way that we saw him; stammering through a pity date would have been painful for him, Scully and me. Although maybe he just needs some liquid courage, because the Pendrell of Tempus Fugit is far more dateable. Poor Pendrell, but that's for the S4 thread. Jealousy is something I just cannot abide in real life, so I have a hard time with it in fiction. Jealous!Mulder tends to entertain me in fanfic, though, so maybe it would have been okay here. Funny, at any rate. But I just really like Scully being so unaffected by Pendrell's crush. She's not haughty or awkward or giggly or any of the things women on television are too often made to be by the attentions of a man, any man, she's just initially oblivious because she's thinking about work and then very matter-of-fact without being condescending or pitying. Love her.
  5. The last one is from one of my favorite episodes, Wetwired. It's Mulder saying it to The Lone Gunmen (when they're all excited to explain to him what the little doohickey he took off the cable does). Oh, yeah, the theme -- episodes where Mulder and/or Scully are (or may be) under the influence of something.
  6. I would watch The Rains Came every time it was on, but TCM is pretty stingy about airing it. I have the DVD, though. Another classic film I must watch whenever it airs despite having it on DVD and knowing it by heart is Bringing Up Baby. The rapid-fire dialogue is impossible to resist quoting.
  7. "It sucks" sums it up for me. Kristen Cloke can't act, David Duchovny can't cry, and while Morgan & Wong can write they don't do it very well in this one. Alas, Mulder and Scully are pretty and they get to close talk in this one, but pretty screencaps do not an episode make.
  8. Oh yes, Stage Door is one of those films for me, too -- if TCM is airing it, I must watch it. I used to watch Cheaper by the Dozen quite a lot as a kid, but I haven't done it much as an adult. Now, many other Myrna Loy movies? A hundred times is not enough. I not only have the Thin Man boxed set, I watch something from it almost weekly (I find them comforting to fall asleep to). But when one of those pops up on TCM? I'm still there. Same with Libeled Lady, Test Pilot, Wife vs. Secretary, I Love You Again, Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House ...
  9. I haven't had a chance to watch this yet, but the LA Times' most recent segment of Talking TV is about depictions of rape on television.
  10. Gravity is another popular film that just doesn't interest me, even out of curiosity; it looks like yet another film that is all hat and no horse. Also, the promos reminded me of the scene in the silly '80s film Space Camp in which Max goes drifting into space and Andy has to use her trusty jet pack to save him; it may be 30 years and 80 million dollars later, but it doesn't look any less cheesy.
  11. That is really bothering me this season. He knows better; we've seen him introduce himself properly in the past. He's just delaying the cat's progress by coming in as this scary new person amongst a crew of scary new people - with cameras, boom mics, lighting, etc. - and pushing past the cat's boundaries in order to make "good television" by getting beaten up.
  12. Remember the Titans, The Shawshank Redemption, Steel Magnolias, Easy A ... It does not matter that I already know these films verbatim and could pop in the disc to watch without commercials; if any of them are on TV, I must stop and watch -- they're just that good.
  13. For me, the key there is entertaining - she's ostensibly serving this food to guests. I may use a jar of "good" pasta sauce for a routine meal alone or with family, but I'm not serving it to guests (or on a television show). If Rachael Ray did the same thing in an episode, it wouldn't be as glaring, because it's more to the point -- her show is about easy weeknight cooking using mostly fresh ingredients with the occasional shortcut. But Ina's show is about entertaining; other than the occasional chicken with Jeffrey episode, her recipes are presented as being a treat for guests.
  14. I feel the same way. While I mostly cook with fresh ingredients, I certainly use prepared ingredients or even pre-packaged meals from time to time, as I suspect is true of most people. But on a cooking show, I find it ridiculous. Instructional shows should do just that - instruct - and I think the audience knows how to open a jar.
  15. I never really thought of it until now, but a friend's "blah, blah, blah, ooh, they're so pretty together" love of the movie does increase my distaste for it. Fundamentally, I cannot stand "love at first sight" stories, because I think they're stupid. So to use one of those as the vehicle for the dramatization of an international tragedy that needs no help being dramatic and heartbreaking really turns me off. Isador Straus refusing a lifeboat seat because women and children remained on the boat and Ida Straus declaring "We'll die together as we lived together" after 40 years of marriage moves me. The third-class passengers who never had a chance move me. The "love" of two people who barely know each other doesn't.
  16. LBL - Light Bladder Leakage. That commercial for a drug to counteract post-menopausal vaginal dryness drives me nuts. Let's see, there's topical lubricant to be used when needed or a drug that will force the woman's body to make its own, while at the same time putting her at risk for a long list of potential side effects, some quite serious ... is this a trick question?
  17. I wouldn't call it stupid, either. I have it on DVD, but despite the ability to watch it any time I want without commercials, I still watch it every time I come across it on TV. Which is often.
  18. Not an uncommon Pre-Code theme, in my experience (the general idea of not being punished, or perhaps even rewarded, for a film's worth of selfish behavior).
  19. I have the flu (being sick in 90-degree weather is a special form of hell), so anything I have to think about for more than a second is beyond me, but these are instantaneous: 2. Boggs to Mulder in Beyond the Sea 3. Skinner's greatest moment! Skinner to CSM in Paper Clip.
  20. 2 is Bambi to Mulder in WOTC. 4 is Mulder to Scully (over the phone) in Chinga. "I was hoping for something a little more helpful." Hee. Episodes where Mulder or Scully actually get some blatant attention from members of the opposite sex?
  21. Amazon's pre-sale price for the Blu-Ray set is $90.99. I wouldn't normally pay that for two seasons and a movie, but with the special features ... I'm in.
  22. My issue is I'm too bored to care. In both the writing and the acting, there is something dreadfully dull about that episode.
  23. They're all non-linear episodes with conflicting versions of events ... that may not have happened at all. 1. I don't speak Nazi. I don't know who Mulder was talking to, either, so that point is still up for grabs. 2. Extraterrestrial visitors from beyond who apparently have nothing better to do than buzz one mountain over and over again for 700 years. Scully to Mulder in Field Trip. ("Sounds like crap when you say it." Heh.) 3. Uh, do you prefer the term "abductee" or "experiencer?" Already answered. God, I love Charles Nelson Reilly. 4. You guys like the name? I wanted to go with either "Aurora" or "Borealis." Mulder to ... The Gunmen? ... in one of the Dreamland episodes. 5. That's a door with a brick wall behind it. Identified already as HTGSC. I think it's Mulder talking to Maurice. 6. You're in charge here, you know. It doesn't have to end like this. A favorite! Scully to Bernard in Monday. Heh; a second too late.
  24. There are quite a few movies everyone seems to love that I'm either uninterested in or actively dislike. I have tried several times to make it through Star Wars, and just cannot do it. Same with Gone With the Wind. I have no interest in Indiana Jones, Avatar, Lord of the Rings, Hunger Games or any epic fantasy or film based on a comic book superhero. I think Titanic is a visually captivating movie, but there are a couple dozen more interesting ways to tell the tale of its passengers' ordeal than some stupid love story. I don't think Casablanca is anything to write home about. The charm of Audrey Hepburn is lost on me. Die Hard With a Vengeance is the only watchable Die Hard for me, and that's just because of Samuel L. Jackson.
