  1. Where my family is from they throw in the words some or right a lot. So I'll come home and say something like "that traffic was some bad today" . It does wear off eventually!
  2. Personal pet peeve - I am reading a series set in Alabama and now I am thinking with a southern drawl and saying things like "I'm fixing to go out later". I hate this - I've done this when I visit family in Nova Scotia and sometimes they think I'm making fun of their accent. Aarghh....
  3. Apparently the company that owned the chain named the stores Metro exactly because at the time they were choosing a name Montreal started building their Metro system.
  4. It really is. I was not happy (to say the least) at the idea of people messing around with my eyes, but it really wasn't at all what I was expecting and after the second surgery to not need to wear glasses! It was so amazing. Good luck, @peacheslatour
  5. TO be honest I am actually surprised Michelle and the girls are even allowed to drive.
  6. Hugh Jackman and wife Deborra-lee Furness split after 27 years
  7. That's why it still works for me. I have family and friends in Canada and the UK that I like to stay in touch with and FB is a good way to do that. The snooze feature though does make some of my extended family more bearable 😀.
  8. @PRgal and @shapeshifter I just talked to my son and it turns out this is because, at least at the school she attends (in Quebec), the lunch program is run in the same way that the before and after school programs are run. A child wouldn't automatically be included in the latter two and most parents would know they have to enroll their child in that. This is not the way most parents would expect lunch to be handled though!
  9. Do these kinds of letters ever work to mitigate a sentence for someone I wonder. I imagine there have been studies done about it and I am going to assume sometimes it must make a difference but in a case like Masterson's was there ever any reason to believe he would have gotten a light or lighter sentence?
  10. This is my problem. I know eventually I will miss some family news I would actually want to read about but several of my cousins post constant memes - for example if it's Be Kind to Cats Day (or whatever) they don't just post one meme they post 20.
  11. To quote my grandmother "From your mouth to God's ear".
  12. I had to share this here - look carefully at the label on the box. Vindication for Debra!!!!
  13. I am pretty selective about who I friend on FB and even with that at any given time I probably have at least 5 or so on snooze. Not because they post hateful things but because they post constantly about nothing at all.
  14. I'm sure I've ranted before about the way networks will air rerun episodes out of sequence. Well here's another one. It's bad enough when they do this anyway (IMO) but when they are doing it when one of the main characters is pregnant it's just so stupid. One night she's pregnant and someone's throwing her a baby shower, the next night she and her husband are considering whether to even have a child and then another night guess who's sweetly sleeping in the nursery? My peeve is this - but also that my husband keeps saying "calm down dear it's just a TV show". I know that but I'm still going to get royally peeved when it happens!
  15. Grade 10 Canadian History - the teacher spent so much time talking about the fur trade and building the railroad west that we never made it out of the 19th century.
  16. None of the Duggar kids had any real education and were raised to do what Daddy told them to do. It's not surprising at all to me that they would never have even begun to understand how income tax works (hell I have a master's degree and I'm not entirely sure I understand every nuance!). They trusted their father and IMO anyway he won't hesitate to throw each and every one of them under the bus if the IRS does come calling.
  17. There were actually about 3,000 but our school was half French and half English. I guess this is one reason (among many) that most shows and movies about high school were never close to my experience.
  18. Does anyone else have any experience with an elementary school that expects the parents to request that their child have lunch at school? My granddaughter just started kindergarten and they got a call at lunch Monday asking when they would be picking her up. Apparently there was a form they needed to fill out indicating that she would be eating lunch at school. I have absolutely never heard of this before.
  19. Same. My high school was like a small town IIRC there were about 1500 students, possibly more, but we went from grade 7-11. Anyway we did have a core group of students who seemed to be on every committee and actually "got involved". They were a little annoying but mainly in the way your big sister is annoying. Always telling you what to do, a little bossy but not mean spirited. In some ways I guess like the way the more gentle kid oriented shows like Saved By the Bell portray high school. The same 5-6 kids do everything but are decent kids.
  20. $3.00 a day for eating at home sounds about right for the quality of food I used to see being prepped and served. Which makes me think Jill should be sending HIM a bill for all the unpaid childcare, cooking and cleaning she did growing up.
  21. What an absolutely appalling thing to send to your child. Essentially charging them for being your kid.
  22. I don't know if I have Covid or not but woke up this morning with a head ache and sore throat, now have started coughing. Oh joy. I did test myself and it was negative but the last time I had Covid it took a few days to show positive. Well this just sucks.
  23. I watched it - I hadn't planned to but others were watching it and before I could leave the room I got sucked in. Very well written to the point I remember it to this day. RIP Mr. Hume.
