  1. As a Canadian I have experienced this for years in terms of links to TV shows or clips etc coming out of the US. Someone here or elsewhere will share something and all I see is a notice "not available in your viewing area" or something along those lines.
  2. I am guessing it's convenience. As far as I am aware there is no reason at all why we can't get our news direct from the source. The only impact I can foresee for myself personally is if I wanted to link a news story onto my FB page I am assuming it might be blocked.
  3. Same. I'm not shy, happy to talk to anyone but I am selective about what I talk about. I will back away fast if a total stranger veers into politics or religion. That said this doesn't happen often. Usually it's exciting topics like the weather. I have noticed that I am far more likely to do the smile and nod when I am out and about in my small town - when I am in the Big City this is less likely. Mainly because it seems like Big City folk walk with their heads down as if they're searching for money that might have fallen on the sidewalk.
  4. And she is very much the one who was pushing to have more and more kids. She made comments over and over again that made it obvious she was aiming to have 20 kids and counting. I will never defend Josh but I do think in this one specific area he was the one who didn't want to compete with Mom and Dad.

Shakespeare and penguin book get caught in Florida's 'Don't Say Gay' laws
  6. While this is especially true for a Duggar it's probably largely true for most families. They don't get turned in by family members or friends what gets them is they can't stop themselves from re-offending. Gary Glitter being the most recent celebrity who should have known he'd be under extra scrutiny but managed to mess up within IIRC a month or so of his release. I am positive the same thing will happen with Josh. He thinks he's smarter than anyone else in the room (and within his immediate family maybe that's true) but he's not as smart as he thinks he is.
  7. The Debra can't cook mantra was played for laughs on this show for years but last night I noticed they seemed to forget to make most of Debra's meals actual meals - by that I mean where are the vegetables? Almost every time she is serving up dinner the only thing on the plate is the meat. The too tough meat loaf, the lemon chicken even her awesome braciole, whatever, no potatoes, no carrots, nada. Debra, Debra, Debra....
  8. So much has changed, I hope, since then. I know though that caregiver burnout is still very much a reality but at the minimum it's acknowledged as existing now!
  9. Sandra Bullock's Longtime Partner Bryan Randall Dead at 57 After Private 3-Year Battle with ALS
  10. Oh we didn't pay any attention to her edict! We confirmed with the nurses that it could do no harm and that was it. Since we visited weekly and she visited, at best, every other month, he got his candy! I'm sure your doctor friend probably told you this but if anyone else has yet to deal with this issue, not eating and drinking is very common as someone approaches end of life. The body is basically shutting down. It's normal but it's also something loved ones can get very concerned over, it just seems so wrong.
  11. I can't answer your question but my aunt was in a wheelchair and it amazed me how often people would never meet her eye or talk directly to her. It was like having a mobility issue meant she couldn't communicate for herself. I don't think (or at least I hope anyway) that people are being intentionally hurtful. But thoughtlessly hurtful isn't much better.
  12. I almost posted the other day to see if I'd missed hearing about the results of his appeal! Totally agree @Stevie Nicks great start to the week!
  13. 'Barbie' makes a billion and breaks another record for female filmmakers
  14. SNL, up to when I stopped watching, had funny, unmissable moments, but within a 90 minute show that had a lot of not very funny, sometimes downright stupid, moments. We bought a few 'Best of...." DVDs for the SNL performers we liked and those include. of course, the SNL skits that hit our funnybone. Watching a whole episode? Not a chance.
  15. Like most places now, where I live there are very few places where people are required to wear masks anymore. If you're wearing one in public it's likely by personal choice. That said, why are people who are choosing to wear them still wearing them incorrectly? I was out today and spotted 2 people wearing masks with their nose peeking over the top and one person with the mask on so loosely there was no way it functioned as a mask at all. Colour me confused.
  16. This is my family. My mother and one of her sisters moved away from their hometown when they got married - in different directions. When we would visit my grandparents we never coincided with when they would visit. I got to "know" these cousins with the advent of Facebook. Still haven't met two of them in person and odds are probably never will. Anyway we never had family who were dropping in distance until my sisters and I had families of our own and managed to all live close to each other. This is the better way to "family" IMO (assuming you get along of course!)
  17. I was really on the fence about getting the vaccine because, shots, ugh. But then a friend of my parents got shingles. The stuff of nightmares. I jumped off the fence fast!
  18. And it's not like Ray made an issue of it, if Robert hadn't seen the receipt he never would have known, so if anything Ray was whatever the opposite of a glory hog is!
  19. For me any episode that was BJ-centric was unwatchable. I don't know what he added to the show.
  20. Definitely one of the defining things that marks the passage into adulthood! I was at the mall with my granddaughter last week and of course the stores are pushing the back to school sales. She said "but school is forever away still". At her age it probably does feel that way!
  21. I live in Ontario and up to now would have said I am not afraid of spiders. Should I ever come across one that looks like the above that is going to change. Fast!
  22. The episode where Ray has taped over their wedding is on tonight. So, no one else in the family got a copy of the wedding tape? I may have to stop watching sitcoms, it's not just with ELR that I am starting to get super nitpicky about plot points that just don't make sense.
  23. I got it when I was in university, so somewhere around 20-21. I wasn't sick enough to be hospitalized but I was very sick and missed over 2 weeks of school. And boy that was fun, explaining to my profs that I had been home sick with chicken pox. Most were sympathetic but one thought it was hilarious and brought it up regularly for the rest of the semester.
  24. Yes, she uses both names because it became a stupid hot button issue that she wasn't using his. She married in Quebec, as did I, and women do not take their husband's names. Socially, sure, you can do whatever you want, but if you want to take your husband's name you have to go through a legal name change. But at any rate as you say she uses both names, so dropping one when she is being referenced is incorrect, and to me rage inducing.
