  1. Joy was pointing out what has been pointed out time and time again, people vote against their own best interests all the time. It's frustrating to watch but even more frustrating when you try and convince someone that they're not hurting anyone more than themselves.
  2. I've been enjoying rediscovering Spin City (the sitcom with Michael J. Fox) that I remember liking back in the day. Until, that is, the episode I saw last night where part of the "humour" of the show revolved around the Mayor remembering his first sexual encounter - with one of his teachers in high school. Ugh. The other guys were almost high fiving him as they looked dreamily at the idea that someone could have been lucky enough to have had sex with a teacher. Frasier and Two and Half Men, to name two other sitcoms that have done this. also get me irate at this storyline. Why am I thinking a woman looking back misty eyed on a sexual encounter with HER high school teacher would not be something most sitcom writers would even consider?
  3. I knew I knew him from somewhere! I honestly didn't think of Family Matters though. Now I see it!
  4. Well it's happened again, Three weeks ago we had someone in to give us a quote on replacing our front door. He came promptly enough when we reached out requesting the quote. Now three weeks have gone by and we still haven't gotten anything back from this company. I really don't get it. I know it's hard to get workers, material etc. but why do people even bother to take up your time in the first place if they aren't going to follow up to try and get your business? This has happened time and again over the last 3 years. And yes I know a lot of it is pandemic related and so on but it's also just plain rude!
  5. If she were going to lie why do it now when no one expects her to be having kids? I'd have thought she'd have done it back when this was an obsession among some writing about celebrities.
  6. Oh my god I totally get the need for Amber Alerts but my phone just exploded in a cacophony of noise beside me and I almost had a heart attack. If I'd been driving with my phone tucked away anywhere near me I'd have probably gone off the road!
  7. Since Hallmark has started airing their Christmas movies I figured it was time to start reading Christmas themed books. First ones up are a couple of Sheila Roberts set over Christmas followed by Call Me Mrs. Miracle by Debbie Macomber. Nice easy reading for the (lengthy) holiday season!
  8. I saw Christmas in Evergreen and the sequel about the letters today. First, I admit they were both cute and a pleasant way to pass a few hours. But wow I mean I know these stories can be goofy but the second movie has an adult woman worrying about something and her solution to the problem is to make a wish on the magic snowglobe? Ok it worked (of course) but c'mon! Oh and on a shallow note, the actor playing Kevin was 51 when this movie was made but was supposed to be aged roughly 35. Sorry but to me he looked 50. Not that there's anything wrong with that but let's face it when we have older actresses playing characters much younger than themselves it gets commented on so, fair play!
  9. So true. For a very long time I don't think a month went by without one of the sleazier magazines announcing that she was pregnant. If she'd actually had as many babies as these rags claimed she was going to have she'd be in the Guiness Book of Records!
  10. Agreed. What bothered me about that situation was the way the teacher immediately got on the phone blasting her husband for having the nerve to tell his friends she was cheating on him and pregnant by another man. How long did she think she was going to be able to keep that little secret?
  11. I am just watching the episode where Sheldon has been riding the rails and gets stranded in Arizona. I really don't understand though how he ended up pantless and wandering around a train station. He had his stuff stolen while he slept ON the train. I've taken trains for years, and often long distance in sleeper cars. It's unlikely all his stuff could have been stolen but even accepting that there is no way the train crew would have dumped him at a train station in that way. Wait, well, given this is Sheldon maybe....
  12. Sounds like the premise of a stalker type Movie of the Week. "She gave her a kidney and now she wants to take over her life...."
  13. Just watched this one and I loved it. Definitely going on my list of "movies I will watch again and again". I loved the ending, agree it was confusing, but still loved it!
  14. Pet peeve today, newspaper headlines that are hyperbolic. Example from today "education workers strike grinding on". They went out Friday. Today, last I checked is Monday. And incidentally the strike is over as of about mid-day today. Grinding on? Seriously?
  15. I think there is a difference between acknowledging immaturity and excusing bad behavior. That said I completely agree with you. For a lot of people "boys will be boys" is a get out of jail free card that covers a lot of abusive crap.
  16. But also only 18 at the time. I'm not excusing it but I do expect a different level of behavior from mature adult men who have been out of high school for awhile - I'd be interested to learn how the director and other behind the scenes people on set were acting while this was going on, for instance. I'm prepared to give credit if someone can grow up, acknowledge they were wrong and make better choices going forward. I have no idea if this actually, of course, applies to Rob Lowe or Andrew McCarthy.
  17. I wasn't sure where Meemaw was coming from on this. Was she trying to suggest that Mandy should be embarrassed because she is sneaking around with a 17 yr old or just that she was sneaking around in the first place? Or something else?
  18. I only ever knew of him as a young performer back in the day. Just read the wiki article about him. What a sad life he seems to have led. What a shame.
  19. My FIL was French Canadian and he always had a pile of crocheted slippers by the door in his house. He didn't want shoes and he didn't want socks or barefeet either. I have no idea if this was cultural or just him!
  20. Same. I'd go barefoot everywhere if I could get away with it! Living in Canada though this is probably a Very Bad Idea!
  21. On a message board I was on in the early days of Internet message boards (possibly a yahoo group) anyway, there was once a pages long battle between two warring factions - the always wear shoes in the house battalion vs the shoes in the house? are you crazy? battalion. It was pretty entertaining. I had no idea how heated people could get over this!
  22. I was not impressed with Mandy sleeping with Georgie again. Once she knew he was only 17 she was horrified. Now it's ok? He's still only 17.
  23. It just didn't ring true to me. Don't get me wrong, I liked it, but the impression you're given is that Georgie has often done stuff like this for Sheldon and even leaving aside the BBT way Sheldon spoke about Georgie, this still didn't really sound like the Georgie we've seen up to now on YS. He has been shown to be a good brother but never IMO to be the kind of brother who would sit and hold a bucket so Sheldon would eat! Show's trying a little too hard to push Good Guy Georgie here.
  24. This is what is pissing me off the most about the way they've handwaved away most of what we were told about the Coopers on BBT, I get that they needed to make changes but in the process they're throwing Mary and Sheldon under the bus and that sticks in my craw.
