  1. He did, and there was also at least a few references prior to that about Mary wanting to be a grandmother. I am guessing though since they've clearly handwaved away a lot of what we're told about the Cooper family on BBT that this is yet another thing they've decided to ignore. I just wish they'd decided to ignore the George is an adulterer storyline but this episode seemed to strongly hint that his attraction to Brenda is something they are going to explore further.
  2. I'd gotten a little careless a few weeks ago, mostly masking but not every single time the way I used to and surprise, surprise I got Covid. Sigh. Anyway back to masking whenever I am out. Today I was picking up some groceries and all the way through the produce section there was a woman, unmasked, hacking away. So charming. Coughing all over the one section of the store with mostly unwrapped products. Aside from which fercryingoutloud! Two and a half years and for some people it's like it never happened.
  3. Now this was more like it! We still see moments of sadness with regard to their problems but overall it was a positive episode with a lot of humour. I liked the way George pointed out the flaw in Sheldon's story idea. Also liked the way Connie pointed out that Mary was a bit of a wild girl long before George came along! I was impressed by how many storylines they managed to pack into what is essentially 18 minutes of show.
  4. This is in no way meant to defend Hooters but at least they are blatant about what they are - my niece got a job at a local restaurant/bar near us a few years ago and the "girls" (which is how all the female staff were referenced) all were required to wear mini skirts and high heels. They didn't seem to care too much what the guys wore. She lasted 3 months before she quit. She was telling us it wasn't really the clientele that were the problem, it was the managers being idiots.
  5. Have they actually said they are only doing one more season? AFAIK Young Sheldon is doing well in the ratings, I can't see them bowing out if they can continue to bring in the punters.
  6. If the Coopers were taking this approach to what has been happening to them I think a lot more viewers (me included) would be seriously ticked off. Frankly it would just not ring true if the writers were piling on the negatives the way they are but had the characters smiling it off and saying "worse things happen at sea". Georgie and the idiotic pregnancy storyline aside financial difficulties would be a huge pressure on any family and this is the big thing they are doing to the Cooper family right now. I am assuming this is part of the lead up to having the but even if that's not the case it's realistic that worrying about paying the bills and feeding the family would take a big toll on Mary and George.

This reminds me of something I've wondered now and then. How was it that Frasier was so wealthy? It can't be because of the radio show - or at least not only because of that as he had the $$ to buy that lovely apartment when he relocated to Seattle. I guess we're meant to assume that his psychiatrist practice in Boston provided him with a healthy bank account.

I can't be the only Frasier fan who wondered if the new series would involve Frasier having to move in with Frederick for some reason to be determined. An interesting twist (for an episode or two at least anyway) would be if Frasier were to have fallen on hard times financially and needed to move in with Freddy. One thing I hope they do with the new series is knock it off with the serial dating. It was bad enough to see Frasier always ending up messing things up with women when he was in his 40s, to see him still desperately seeking love at 67 and never finding it wouldn't be something I want to watch.

If they stick with the timeline established in Cheers, Frederick was born in 1988. Which, yikes, means he is a venerable 34! Not all that much younger than Frasier and Niles were meant to be when the series Frasier started!
  10. I hope within a few episodes that the Coopers are also feeling that things could be worse and a little sunshine comes their way. Right now though I don't blame them for feeling hard done by. It's been one damn thing after another for awhile now. The Coopers are vying with the Conners for the family that just can't win.

I just hope they don't mess around too much with the way things ended for the characters on the original Frasier. There should be adult, or close to adult children for Roz and for Niles and Daphne now, I also hope Niles and Daphne are still together, One of the central plot lines, stretched out over the whole series, was their romance. If it all ended up leading to divorce I won't be a happy camper.
  12. I just started watching this. I never saw any episodes before with Bub and Mike and I have to say I am loving this show, Or at least the first season, so far. There are definitely some episodes that would NEVER be made today but overall I am finding the Douglas family charming and I look forward to visiting. I haven't reached any episodes where the family does any travelling but I sure have noticed that Steve always seems out of town for some reason or another! In looking up the show I see that this is probably because of the unique shooting schedule that Fred MacMurray insisted on. Also noticed a very young Beau Bridges playing a friend of Mike's!
  13. I finally saw this episode and it wasn't quite as bad as I was expecting it to be. That's not exactly a glowing testimonial. Anyway the highlights for me were Missy supporting her mother and also challenging Mandy and Sheldon speaking out in church. Sheldon is always going to be Sheldon of course but his heart was in the right place. I also liked when he asked Mary why she preferred to believe in a God who would deliberately make her life miserable as opposed to not believing in God at all.
  14. Absolutely. They've shown a lot of typical things that baptist churches are against but until this utterly stupid pregnancy storyline I didn't feel the people going to the church would have been the type to go over the top ballistic over a teen pregnancy (well technically since Georgie is only 17). What was already a negative storyline is just getting worse and worse. I watch comedies to laugh not to grind my teeth and get mad at the writers!
  15. Some of my favourite episodes are the dancing ones. This one and the one where Ray goes swing dancing and especially the awesome dance Robert and Amy do at their wedding. Oh and the one where the Barones are all at a wedding and Robert does the bunny hop. That one kills me. No matter how many times I see it I start laughing.
  16. This is what bothers me about this whole storyline. To this point we are never given any reason to believe that Mary's church consists of such closeminded people! The pastor not only being divorced but remarried so quickly would have had people talking but the big thing for me is that the only other employee of the church is the awesome Peg who has had a very colourful life based on what she herself has revealed. Add in to that the way the pastor has been very patient with Sheldon and his constant questioning. Anyway iIf Lorre et al had wanted to paint this church as extreme over the top judgemental fundie he didn't do a very good job of it until this particular storyline came up,
  17. I just saw the BBT episode where Sheldon talks about how in "In the South, preadolescent children are forced through a process called cotillion, which indoctrinates them with all the social graces and dance skills needed to function in 18th century Vienna." This gets completely contradicted on YS when we find out that Mary won't even let Missy go to a school dance.
  18. This, so much this. I can understand the mindset that getting married will magically resolve the problem but why is no one really acknowledging that this age difference (not the 11 yrs but the teen boy high school drop out vs almost 30 yr old woman) is not just inappropriate but doomed to failure? Does Mary really want a divorce in the family either? And does anyone really think that a marriage will make the congregation accept this situation? It just makes no sense.
  19. I thought I was the only one who didn't like him! Most of the posts I've been reading are very much on Team Tom but for me I always wondered what she ever saw in him!
  20. My pet peeve today is the way some people seem to think there is only one way to grieve and if you aren't following their blueprint you are either doing it wrong or you don't really care about the loss of your loved one. There have been a few prominent deaths recently where the twitter crowd has gone nuts finding fault but for me it's a little more personal right now. I lost my mother a few months ago and apparently a few of our extended family members don't understand why my siblings and I aren't plastering our grief all over FB. I guess you don't really care if you aren't talking about your loss on social media every single day.
  21. For some reason today I kept thinking of the episode of Family Ties where the parents are away and the kids rent out rooms as it's Homecoming week-end. It's solid comedy gold throughout but this scene just kills me: [Steven's reaction to Alex turning their house into a hotel] Steven : Alex, parents are conditioned to put up with a few minor accidents when they leave their children home alone. A broken vase, spilt milk on the rug... There was a kangaroo... in my living room. Alex P. Keaton : ...He was just here for the party dad. Steven : Then I guess I'm overreacting.
  22. Mark Hamill also played a love interest of Laurie's. IIRC it was the one where her braces are picking up radio signals!
  23. I disagree. I've just been watching this show as it came back on in reruns near me and the first year Keith is an intelligent young man who is working on his music as a way of helping his family. I don't recall him being shown as a "doofus" until a little later in the series. It was almost like the more gaga the girls got over David Cassidy the dopier they made Keith Partridge!
  24. Are open relationships so common that a woman knowing the man she's hitting on is married is reasonably expecting to find out he's in an open marriage? Maybe I live in a different world but that's never been my experience. Men lying about their relationships in order to pick up women? Way more common.
  25. Exactly! I am betting "hey I'm in an open marriage" is edging out "my spouse doesn't understand me" in the excuses cheaters use when they're trying to cheat department.
