7 Little Johnstons - General Discussion
Dibs replied to Meredith Quill's topic in 7 Little Johnstons
I think he was joking; wasn't the whole philosophy behind the show initially that they DON'T modify their environment because they have to live in the real world which is average-sized and want their kids to get used to it? As the parents have gotten older, though, I notice that they've started to (kitchen, bathroom). Was Trent's segment on adaptations? Interesting in contrast to the Roloffs (who were also there); Matt started a business selling stools and other implements to aid dwarves, while Zach and Tori, with FOUR dwarves in the family, haven't made a single household modification. -

Maybe they're all tired of being controlled and micromanaged by the "One Tough Mother" (the t-shirt). Ya think? I thought the whole "let my family of vastly superior LPs EDUCATE you poor lesser LPs as to how to live your own lives" premise was stupid, but very characteristic of Amber. Where does she get off...??? Those college credits are going straight to her head! -
Doubling Down With The Derricos - General Discussion
Dibs replied to Scarlett45's topic in Doubling Down With The Derricos
I'm watching because it's in my usual Tuesday night trash tee-vee slot, and it's a bad habit! This show is so fake and forced, and they're such bad actors, but I guess a lot of people will watch just for the kids, who are all very cute and personable. Clearly they're hoping for something like a very large Jackson Five group to come out of this as they're all drilled in dancing, singing, and performing in general. The oldest girl seems very intelligent, but I fear that she's doomed. The dad and grandma sure have the waterworks going every week! Why is a random unrelated adult male apparently living with them and always there interacting with the kids? Skeeves me out. -
The literal definition of a diet is "a course of food to which one restricts oneself," so no, Ozempic itself is not a "diet." It's a drug that happens to eliminate one's appetite. As a happy (?) side effect, one naturally consequently loses weight. Again, if Whitney has lost her appetite, there's no willpower or self-discipline involved in eating less; in fact, it sounds like that's beyond the users' control. Agree to disagree about how much credit Whitney deserves for this sudden weight loss which she could never achieve before Ozempic came along.

You're correct that the "typical" post-menopausal woman's body becomes barrel-shaped (big midsection) even if the limbs remain slim. Even women on HRT develop this problem; even women who never had children (I honestly believed both of those factors would save me from it, but they didn't). And yet - you're correct again - there ARE older women who don't; they retain their pre-menopause, even teenage, hour-glass figure with a small waist and no belly; from the back or side (I know because I hike with some of them), they still look 20 years old! I honestly don't know their secret; when I've asked them, the only thing they seem to have in common is that they NEVER took HRT, surprisingly. They don't claim to diet or appear to starve themselves or seem to have EDs, and they don't exercise any more than I do with my 30 extra pounds. It's a mystery, and I'm jealous!

I guess the story line this season is busy career woman (running a vanity boutique) Danielle exasperated with lazy, do-nothing, Disneyland stay-at-home dad Adam and collapsing in exhaustion only to mysteriously revive when there's an opportunity to go partying with friends or vacationing with her sisters. Lather, rinse, repeat! I admit it's fun to watch the girls grow up, but those twins have always been Mean Girls; Ava in particular. Interesting dynamic. I like Blayke's blase attitude. Where's Mimi (again)?

Maybe LPA finds know-it-all Amber as insufferable as I do! If they wanted to hob-knob with "famous" little people, there were plenty of other opportunities, as they noted how many other fun things the attendees could be doing in that chock-a-block filled conference. I for one would not have chosen to waste an hour of my life listening to little people telling me what I, if I were a little person, already knew. Like they couldn't figure out how to alter clothes until Amber came along? The ego and hubris of this woman is just astounding! I was also dismayed to hear her comment on what "we" have to do to keep Alex and Allie together. Amber, it's not "your" relationship. RUN, Allie and Ashley! Thank goodness we don't have to see that salsa dance anymore except probably in flashbacks. Of course, they all knew about the pregnancy and were just acting (badly); it's even been suggested that the whole breakup was fake. -

I agree. Anna's just a receptionist in a doctor's office and has an online business (like all the kids do). I wish she had continued working with children and maybe opened her own daycare one day; she was awesome at that. -
I would say a diet is the intentional reduction of calories. Eating less as a result of losing your appetite would be unintentional.
-
The drugs, for one thing, make you lose your appetite. I've heard many people say they have to force themselves to eat even a tiny bit and are even repulsed by food while taking it. Obviously, this makes it easier to "diet." I don't think you could even call it dieting; it's just not eating because you don't want to. So basically Whitney's doing what she's always done in relation to food: whatever she wants to. As for weight gain in women after menopause, that's very common; I don't know that it's unique to people with Hashimoto's Disease. Finally, isn't Angie a little old to be "totin' a baby"? Whitney's niece would be a more logical choice if we were to pursue this fantasy storyline.

Also, did she say she was giving Brice "motivation to work on our issues"; is that what the kids call it these days? -

I expect to hear any minute that Jonah and his Buddy have opened a bar-b-q joint. This series has become like a really long commercial for that. Either Ashley has very low self-esteem or she's a paid actor playing Jonah's long-distance GF, and his real relationship is the guy he smokes pork with (not that there's anything wrong with that). Why in the world couldn't Liz find some FRIENDS to share her house with and help pay the rent? Surely she's in school with other nursing students just starting out in the area who would be a perfect fit. Heck, it seems to me even black sheep Anna had a potential roommate at one point. Doesn't Liz have any FRIENDS? I seem to recall her rubbing it in Emma's face that she has FRIENDS while poor "loser" Emma has only a lowly cousin, who doesn't really count as a FRIEND. -

Or he heard Tori say it and is smart enough to substitute "Tori" for "Lilah." I can't imagine Zach ever saying such a thing; remember that box of limp, deflated balls he was trying to pump up? -
Research the number of calories in Starbucks drinks and get back to me! Meanwhile, it's okay to "agree to disagree." :)
-
Well, I think we have to be careful not to project. Just because something applies to you and your mother doesn't mean it applies to Whitney. We all know she lies, whether it's about her diet or a million other things.
-
Except that she WAS "power-slamming 5k calories a day." We all saw those syrupy Starbuck's drinks she was constantly sucking on although they went to great lengths to hide her actual eating habit. It's disingenuous to attribute this sudden weight loss in Whit (and others) to "hard work" alone. Please. It's obviously a game-changer, either forcing them to restrict calories to where great weight loss is possible or doing something hormonally to fat metabolism or probably both. I wish I could take it for my 30-pound post-menopausal weight gain that I can't budge no matter what I do, but my doctor refused to prescribe even Wegovy, claiming I "don't qualify" (in fact, I do according to the prescribing criteria). I may look into getting the generic version another way at a later date, but meanwhile will wait and watch to see how it all shakes out; it's still early days for this "new" drug.

Or they were just lost in the clutter of the garage or her half of the office. Remember that "Hoarders" episode called "Somewhere In My Pile"?

I don't know WHY he said it, but WHEN he said it was at the end of the berry picking scene. -
I suspect their parents and/or TLC encourage this to keep them "little" and "cute," but it's detrimental to their development. Seems only Riley speaks normally, but then she's always been the outlier.

Amber's "poor pitiful me" act with Dr. Paradise. What is she doing, damage control? Nathan should dump her, but I guess he loves her.
-
"She kills them"? CUT flowers? They're already dead. Who are these people holding hands and laughing? She hated him, the last we saw... It's like the Lisa transformation.

Salsa dancing for the kids; the twins and Alex again. Could this show get any more awkward? -

They also BOTH wanted to live in the farmhouse and probably both hoped to monetize it in some way -- Zach by carrying on the with the show (Roloffs 2.0), and maybe Jeremy with one of Audrey's many enterprises. How do you "divide" that, and what about the other two kids? Turns out Jacob also had an interest in farming even greater than that of the other two; who knew? Yes, children traditionally waited until their parents passed before expecting an inheritance, if they were lucky enough to even get one, but not so much these days with all the entitlement engendered in Gens X and Z. Watch your back, Matt! And then Amy!!!
