  1. I googled "what shows covered Saanich murder" and this came up. It was a Dateline show from 2010, but I know old Datelines seem to pop up at times (on the ID Network?) https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3163612/
  2. This was one of the details I found really unrealistic, that they would not only throw her in jail for a relatively minor offense (and her first offense) but they did it immediately, with no recourse for her to even arrange her kids' pickup from school, let along any temporary care for them for the length of her sentence. I'm open to correction from anybody familiar with the British penal system. But overall, excellent performances and engrossing storylines. I think you would REALLY like Season One as well. Do you know if that season was nominated or won any BAFTAs?
  3. I thought Season 1 was absolutely brilliant. Very sad and hard to watch at times, and yet compelling and absorbing. I didn't find Season 2 quite as gripping, but the original was a hard act to follow. I look forward to reading others' thoughts on both seasons.
  4. You're welcome :) Any details you can think of to share? Plot, cast, anything?
  5. Ok, don't get too excited, but was it this? https://www.imdb.com/title/tt11337908/ It was filmed on that area and IIRC has some shots of Saanich in it.
  6. Cam is a fictional character. That being said, I hope we get a little more of her backstory. She mentioned spending time in the foster home; I'm assuming that's after she was adopted by the white police chief's family, but I don't know for sure. A bit of trivia, the actor who plays Raj (the uncle) is Anoop Desai, who also played the djinn on What We Do In The Shadows, and was a Top Ten finalist in America Idol circa 2009.
  7. Bill Maher fires his talent agency for not getting invited to A-list party. https://deadline.com/2024/03/bill-maher-urges-audience-to-lighten-up-even-as-his-caa-partygate-snub-erupts-1235860226/
  8. "The Problem with Jon Stewart" was definitely not a quick bit/easy joke type of setup. I encourage anyone who hasn't watched it to take about 10 minutes of their time and look at some of the interviews he's done on that show, (available on YouTube) covering everything from gun rights (vs a senator who wants *less* gun restrictions) to gender-affirming care (vs the atty general of Arkansas), to the economy, racism, taxes, the media, etc. He is absolutely SCATHING during his interviews, yet remains totally professional and polite. He has not lost his edge at all. Heck, look at him in front of Congress regarding 9/11 first responder recognition. I can't speak for him personally, of course, but I think the one-day-a-week format might be tailor made for him. (I get the impression that Trevor also got burned out with the daily grind). I think the odds are that he probably has enough money to live quite comfortably the rest of his life, and in turn to make sure his family and children are taken care of. Speaking of Trevor, yes, it did take me a little while to warm up to him, because he definitely had big shoes to fill and really, it's hard to compare him with Jon but I was unfairly doing so. Once he grew on me, I liked him quite a lot. He was funny of course, but also smart and extremely diplomatic. I loved his interviews because you could tell he took time to research his subject. Then after he left, I truly missed him and couldn't warm up to most of the guest hosts, LOL.
  9. Ah, somebody beat me to posting the latest news...but yay! ETA: If they can lure Jon back (I know, he was already Executive Producer...but still....), can they lure Roy Wood Jr. back to take over the rest of the week? Pretty please? No more rotating hosts, PLEEEZE.
  10. Interesting article in Slate about the show: https://slate.com/culture/2024/01/natalia-grace-kristine-barnett-tv-show-twist-ending.html to sum up: the article basically states that the producers engaged in highly unethical practices in the course of making both seasons of this show. It's a good read IMO.
  11. It's coming back! Sixth and last season. https://www.vulture.com/2023/12/what-we-do-in-the-shadows-season-six-ending.html
  12. It's surprising to me that I actually was familiar with the celebrities from Episodes 1 and 2 (because I don't watch a whole lot of network TV), but I'm so embarrassed now that I didn't realize that Emily was Stevie from Schitt's Creek. Somehow, she sparked a "Parker Posey character" vibe with me and I guess I couldn't get past that, LOL. I'm glad Utkarsh Ambudkar won, since I love Ghosts and his character on it. Had no idea he used to be a rapper. I absolutely freeze under pressure myself and contract a sudden, intense case of the The Dumbs, so I agree. Putting my intellect, of lack thereof, on display for the world is not something I'd be up for.
  13. I agree. I'm a fan of both the actress (since her "Leftenant Abbie" days from Sleepy Hollow; the show tanked after she left) and her character on TMS. I thought this episode was the best so far this season. A lot less of the Bradley soap-opera stuff; in fact no Bradley whatsoever other than Mia ignoring her phone call, hee! Was glad to see Cory taken down a notch, but he'll no doubt bounce back. The Tony Bennett song at the end was perfect. Oh and yes, the "Eagle News" anchorwoman was a delight. I've worked in broadcasting before (hey, I "survived the 70s" too) and I've known a few Cybills myself, not that her archetype is limited to broadcasting. They'll trash other women among their executive colleagues but then try to appeal to "sisterhood and solidarity" when it suits their purpose. Comeuppance is a beautiful thing.
  14. I was really losing interest towards the end of the show (which tracks with this season in general) so this totally escaped my attention. So I read a recap of this episode and yep, it's very strongly implied. Good god, and I thought killing the mailman was weird and unsettling. 🥹
  15. I was also marveling at the accuracy of the "Channel 8" segments, and then an interview with the episode director popped up in my news feed. They went to great lengths to get it right: "I mean, we did a ton of research similar to when we did “Go Flip Yourself” in terms of just getting the language exactly right of local news. So we met with camera people and local news producers. The anchor people that we cast were actual local news anchors. The set was based on local news sets. We shot half of the episode that’s in the news space at a different frame rate because — this is super technical, but my editor nerd brain lights up at this stuff — news is shot at 30 frames per second, but you know, regular television is 24 [frames per second] and a more cinematic look. So 30 is what you think of as a video look. The news [segments in the show] were shot at 30. That was really important for it to feel like real local news." 16. This is a good article regarding the artwork shown during the opening. It does only go up to Season Three, but it's pretty comprehensive. https://imgur.com/gallery/FvkuSZ3
  17. I chuckled a few times, but so far I'm not blown away by this season. I could do without Scraps as well. Is there a category on PT that covers the Weird Al movie? Daniel got nominated for an Emmy, and Al got two nominations, one for writing the script and another for Original Song. The movie got 8 nominations total!
  18. I have no idea if this is in the right thread or not, so somebody please lmk if I need to move this. Looks like some old 'friends' of Joe will be coming back next season: https://www.tvinsider.com/1096583/you-season-5-teaser-penn-badgley-returning-characters/?utm_source=TV+Insider%3A+Main&utm_campaign=be0c14f5af-THE_DAILY&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_3576f8ead4-be0c14f5af-15108702 I actually just started watching this show a few months ago and I'm a few episodes away from finishing Season 4, so there were a few spoilers in the article for me. I was glad to see Marienne made it out alive (I had earlier read a spoiler that she died, and I was so sad for her kid). I'm hoping some of all of his previous victims team up to finally nail him. It's about time that happened (major understatement).
  19. I had posted earlier that I was really looking forward to the series. But I've watched 2 episodes and will probably eventually watch the remainder, but sadly I was less than enchanted. I think I was spoiled by Travel Man (Richard Ayoade's) show...he also did things and tried foods that were out of his comfort zone, but he had a "guest traveler" (usually another comedian) with him for all his trips, and they bounced things off of each other (with less of the "celebrity quipping" that the NY Times mentions) and didn't seen quite so ill-at-ease. He didn't have special meals made for him at his hotel but instead went to local restaurants and ate from the regular menu. Anyway, I've realized that he & Eugene are more different in their personalities than I previously thought. I'll watch the remainder of the shows, at least for the scenery, but won't be sad if it's not renewed.
  20. It sounds very much like Richard Ayoade's "Travel Man" and I wonder if it was inspired by such. Either way, I am very much looking forward to this! Eugene Levy is a perfect pick as host. I did read an article that his daughter Sarah would pop up in a few episodes...wouldn't it be a hoot if Dan Levy made an occasional appearance as well!
  21. Looks like they will have a new start date; it's no longer January 16 but they haven't said exactly when. Their FB page said two days ago this in response to a comment: "A new date is coming, hang in there and we'll restart the countdown together!" https://www.facebook.com/MiracleWorkersTBS
  22. That ending confused the bleep out of me. All that being said, I did get sucked into the story, so there's that. But sheesh. (putting some of this with spoiler tags just to be on the safe side)
  23. That clip (with the Arizona AG) is from his interview airing tonight. The interview he did with the Arkansas AG is absolutely scathing. It was concerning transgender rights. Here's one link to it, although there are probably better ones out there. Jon has really stepped up his game this season IMO. If there's anybody reading this who kind of gave up on him last season (let's say there was room for improvement in my view), this season so far has been much better. He eliminated the "sitting around the table talking to his writers" bit and the shows have consisted of a monologue from Jon that introduces the topic this week, interviews from people who have experience with said topic, and then the so-far excellent interviews with the opposition. He is super sharp and focused, and anybody who thinks they can outsmart him will shortly find out otherwise.
  24. Ok, just went to the CBS site and watched the first few minutes of the show. The line is: "Baby, that's called radio. What you're describing is radio" (I tried to do a screenshot with captioning, but I'm not that adept) Anyway, just chiming in to say I loooove this show. At the risk of sounding REALLY snotty, I don't watch much network TV. I definitely don't watch network sitcoms (The Connors was the long holdout on that, but I gave up on that mess). This show has me laughing/snorting every few minutes. The writing is funny & sharp and I'm a little in love with all the ghosts (including Nancy in the basement). I watched the BBC version first, and the American version is just as funny...not something I say often!
  25. He's definitely a good interviewer. He's genuinely interested in his guest, he asks thoughtful questions, he doesn't use the discussion as a springboard for his own anecdotes. Mr. BaaBaa and I were trying to think who else is a good interviewer of that caliber. Couldn't really come up with anyone viable. Trevor took a while to grow on me. Now I realize what a loss to late night this will be 🥲 Plus he had great chemistry with his correspondents. Dang.
